Hi guys.

finally i've gotten into mining, and i chose to mine ethereum with a gpu mining rig. (i've made my calculations, and it is profitable with my equipment, and the kwh price where i live)

I chose to build an open-air mining rig and my question is about moist - im planning to place the miningrig in a garage where there is access to the cold air from the outside.

Should i use some kind of box to place over my mining rig? Is moist gonna be a problem?

Please enlighten me with your experiences.

Hey mate can you please tell me what is the ambient temperature inside and outside your garage?  Basically if you are in a wet season area it is not advisable to expise your miners in an open air . The moist, dew, fog and dust may lessen the performance of your miners and it will caused some malfunctions of the rigs sooner or later. So you have to place the miners in closed area.

Well since the the ceiling consists of boards with spaces, the temperature is almost the same (maybe +- 3 degree celcius). Would you recommend i build an acrylic-like box to place over the miningrig? of course with some kind of airflow so it wouldn't get too hot.

I run my miners on the loft over the carport. open-frame and its been working very well (almost dust free after a year now). Why would you want to cover your miners? Just put them on a shelf, the best place is close to the floor since heat travels upwards

I also thought about the same placement as you but was affraid of the climate - Im from denmark

i dont know why i would cover them, it was a suggestion to get rid of dust, moist etc.

but if you've been running your rig in the same climate for a year without problem, i'll probably go with the same solution - Thanks alot !!

No worries if you leave them in the open from moisture. I have kept the mining rig I have managed for my friends for two years in the second floor of our offices where there is really cold and they worked really well there. The rigs were with 480 and 580 cards. I never had a problem with the ambient moisture, degree is always 15-25 degree celsius where we are located most of the time.

The question about humidity has been described many many times.
Just remember school course of physics: The condensate CAN'T appear at HOT surfaces
And my 2 sats: my rigs works in the placement whet the temperature periodically drops below -10 Celsius degrees for 3 years with no issues

I have a 20 gpu 1070/1070ti setup going in my garage/workshop.  I just built a box with a 2x4 frame and Hardiebacker ceramic sheet for walls just in case of a meltdown.  I doubt the thing will light up but you never know.  Its a little piece of mind.   I put two AC Infinity Cloudline T6 fans pushing the air out the top and out of the house.  The main reason for the mining enclosure was the shop would just get too hot even in the winter.  And I do pull cold air from the outside and I am in a fairly humid area on the west coast of the United States.  With how much heat those gpu's put out I am not super worried about the wet air.  From the posts above it does not seem like it should be an issue.

If your garage doesn't have relative humidity levels near 100% you should be totally ok. I had a water cooling solution that cooled the water below the room temperature and my cards were rather often covered in condensation. And even after that torture, exactly 0 GPUs failed .

A box is an idea that sounds good at first but when you actually feel and see how much heat those little GPUs can put out you'd be surprised. The thing is that you risk with overheating when covering your rig with a box. If you indeed go through with this plan, design an inlet and outlet for air exchange.

sounds splendid! does your roof cover the entire loft or is it a gap? I have gaps al around which causes natural airflow from the outside. Perfect imo

It does - although the part of the loft there's above the carport is covered by wooden beams with a gap between each beam, so there is a nice airflow on the loft.

Hello i was trying to say you cover closed the garage and not your rigs. That was a perfect ambient temp. On your place,good luck and happy mining.

It is very interesting, what do you place there for the installation, then you have the mining ETH profitable. Now is not the best time for mining in such a market, there is a big outflow of miners, and on the contrary, you enter this topic, well done, if you can increase your capital!

Im not doing it for the profit only, but also because its a hobby. I work with IT everyday so the project itself is fun for me.
but if i use www.whattomine.com and put in the amount of gpu's and price of kwh - imma get 1,50$ a day when everything is paid.

Its not the craziest profit, but its profit :-) -
