Just noticed this in the Marketplace (Altcoins) section.

Sure the Marketplace is the best place to advertise the copper membership. This means buy copper membership ASAP or when the price increase you will pay 300% more.

Earlier today I noticed theymos is endorsing an altcoin indirectly. grin is now accepted for forum payments my response was here

Anyway, I am not sure what is going on in theymos mind. theymos always said money is not an issue. I guess I read somewhere that copper membership is not also something to earn money. Then why in a sudden we are seeing these?

Update:
Anyway the advertisement worked and I paid for my copper membership. I hate to see the other payment method though.  Grin

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

I guess this kind of sums it up:

Has anything been written anywhere about the reasons for this? I can't imagine it's a money making measure. I also can't imagine it's going to deter the people who aren't already deterred by it.

It's just that I last changed the price when the BTC/USD price was $12k, so it's drifted from the intended value. Evil fees will also be updated.

The price will be fixed in bitcoins so imagine what will happen when we enter a bull market again.

Then I'll (eventually) adjust it downward again. I like to keep the BTC-denominated price pretty stable and not change it every time the market freaks out in either direction, but it's supposed to have a vaguely consistent real value.

I doubt that the Copper Membership aggregate per month adds up to too much really.

Edit:
If I compare @Piggy’s last two full user database available dumps (beginning of November and beginning of December 2018) we’ve got:

November reading: 3994 Copper Members
December reading: 4411 Copper Members

That is a net of 417 Copper Member is a month. At 0.00208333 BTC or 7,5USD equivalent, it’s 3.127$.
If monthly subscription was to be the same after the increase in price (which it won’t I figure), it’s roughly another 6K per month of income (9k in total - ok, good enough to add an extra programmer or so).

I don't believe that Theymos has financial problems.

However, enquiring minds want to know if he sold a few Bitcoin to buy a Lambo. Smiley

If I remember correctly, they had around 1k 5.5k bitcoins escrowed somewhere, so I guess no!

The increase in price I think is related to the downfall of Bitcoin to avoid some kind of abuse.

I guess in that case theymos needs to consider the dollar price. Have a fixed dollar price, use a standard dollar to BTC converter.

No, not for financial issues:
When the copper membership was introduced for the first time on 11/10/2017, Bitcoin price was around 12k$, so theymos had to increase the copper membership price since Bitcoin dropped to 3,5k$ and it will be adjusted according to market changes.

Again, it is not because of financial issues:
Accepting grin for forum payments may drop the forum incomes, and again, theymos knows that:

I don't recommend buying or not buying grin. Due to its emission schedule, I'd guess that its price will have a general downward trend for quite some time, but who knows.
He adopted it just because he believes in it and wants to support it.

You should have read my view...
Not trying to suck up but I'm pretty sure he's allowed to do whatever he wants.
He can but a lot depends on what he does. He is a public character for Bitcoin and the entire community. Anything comes from him will have million times market affect than you and me or others.  Smiley

How many treasurer's do we have now for the forum?

Maybe he's being held at randsom by the new forum software makers because they underestimated the budget... It's possible but unlikely. He must still be being paid by the us government too for making howeycoins and a few other things.

The last auction for the banner spot got 1.44 BTC that would make another 20-22k a month Smiley
If Theymos would really want to increase income he would allow ICO projects in the auctions, which he has no plans ...yet.

Sidenote, from suchmoon topic

I don't think there is issue with forum money. Bitcointalk getting enough money by selling ad slots. If there would be not enough money, he would just create more ad slots or something. And forum have more than enough money in reserves that theymos even considered to make Bitcointalk ad-free.
I don't know how many Copper memberships are bought in total, but I don't think that it gives very significant profit and increasing prices of it wont help to get more BTC. As theymos already said, prices of Copper Membership will be changed only due to huge BTC price fall in recent months. BTW, message about Copper Memberships already removed from news section.
Indirect endorsing of altcoin is interesting news. First I thought it's joke like Howeycoins ICO, because I never heard about Grin coin before
