A friend wanted to get rid of a used video card, asked if I wanted it, so I took it. It's a Sapphire Radeon 4550, PCI-E, 512 MB DDR3. I've got components sitting around, so I can slap together a box to put this card in. According to the comparison chart, it would only produce about 7 Mhash/s. My question-- Approx how many BTC might I mine in a day/week running it in a pool? / Would it be worth it?

I just found a mining calculator, and according to that I would earn about ฿ 0.00626834 in 24 hours, which doesn't really seem like it would be worth it. I still want others' opinions though.
Thanks!

It's all about the game, and how you play it

If you just want some bitcents to toss around it wouldnt hurt but if you're mining on any serious level it's not really effective, if you're planing to mine for any serious profit you might as well not think about that any at this point EDIT: this is a good place just to mess around if you've got a few bitcents http://bittit.info/

Don't even try. Not even worth the efforts. I just use it to replace a Nividia from Dell for game playing. Didn't even bother to run it when the computer is free.

Not worth it. Not only will you earn next to nothing it will likely be below electrical cost.

not cost effective, however it is educational. I say try it for the experience. and then Invest in proper equipment if you like it.

If education is what you seek, set your CPU to mine, it will probably make more anyway and not hurt your power bill as much.

Well, if you have an existing rig with an extra slot and cheap electricity, it's still worth using it. For 4xxx cards, dont use the new miners. Try older poclbm or guiminer with a CL file released before August. The enhancements that made the newer cards mine faster also degraded the performance of 4xxx cards. Last year, I had a 4350 and mined with it for several months. I think it was getting 18MH/s using the older poclbm CL file.

This thread is 3 months old, I'm sure the OP has moved on.
