Hello, I got notified because of TryNinja's bot. I am from Philippines and I don't have any idea of "DACH" or "DACH area". Can you please enlighten me?
It is nice meeting you all.
You're welcome!
This short discussion was regarding your username. "Maus" in german means "Mouse". As a consequence haloxon assumed that you are from a german speaking country.
DACH is a term summarizing the countries:
D = Deutschland = Germany
A = Österreich = Austria
CH = Schweiz = Switzerland
As someone, who recently had a very annoying and long discussion about this, I hope you allow me one small semi Off-Topic Rant:
In contrast to classifications like EMEA or the members of ASEAN DACH is a pretty arbitrary grouping of countries. One might think "Oh those are the countries where German is the official language". But then you forgot to include Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium and technically the European Union (and if you want to get even more into detail some more, like Poland and Denmark).
Next logical thing would be countries either countries that predominately only speak German, but then you can not really include Switzerland or countries with parts that predominantly speak German, which would mean you had to include Italy, Belgium and maybe even France.
It is also not some kind of economical thing like the NAFTA, quit on the contrary Switzerland is not part of the European Union therefore regulations in those three country can differ rather severely.
Last argument you could make would be a cultural grouping, but I would argue that someone from North-Germany has less shared culture with someone from South-Germany than someone from South Tyrol in Italy has with someone from Tyrol Austria.
And this is fully ignoring other recognized German speaking minorities or immigrants all around the world
This is hopefully also why this Local Board is not the DACH board, but rather the Deutsch (as in Deutsche Sprache) (German) board.
(Super specific Nerd-Rant over)
