looking for help here with a possible scam

Hello to all. So I have recently been approached by someone who says they work for blockchain about pool mining. They asked for an email address so i made a new one and gave them that email. they set up a blockchain wallet. Then they told me to change the password. my question is does it really matter if i do that? if they set the account up do they have access to the account even if i do change it? I would like to find out wtf is going on here. I have the dudes instagram info and his email address and also one of his supposive superiors email addresses if that can help verify whats going on.

To mine bitcoin, it needs an ASIC miner to mine bitcoin and you can connect the miner to any mining pools. You can use any bitcoin wallet to receive coins from pools.

I suggest you use a wallet which is created by you from blockchain or much safer Electrum wallet.

It doesn't work. It has scam written all over it. Even though you change wallet password, the wallet creator still has control over your private key and 12 word passphrase  and he can use it when even he wants to move all the fund he'll trick you to deposit later.

Here's how it'll pays out. He'll ask you to make some deposit into the wallet could be some few dollars or more to purchase the mining contract or what ever reason he'll give you then after few minutes your fund are gone and all contact with him will be lost so don't fall for it.

That's one of the reasons forum was created to alert newbies of possible scams. To stay updated with busted scams so you don't fall prey, pay a visit to the Scam accusation board regularly

Did they told you that they will generate income on your blockchain wallet automatically? If yes then a pure scam since why the hell they will setup your account if you can setup your own. The next step after the account setup is to fund your wallet, I guessed.

As long as no money involved which you will deposit, you are safe. As long as no install browser plugins are required, you are safe. As long as you are not clicking any links from them, you are safe etc.

Yes this has been going on for a long time now. And it is indeed a blatant scam but ppl are still falling for it so maybe it wasn't "blatant" in their eyes? The reason for that could be because they do not know what these scammers are talking about. So the best course here would be "to know", particularly if you're planning to stay with bitcoin, better understand the basics. You can start here, its light: https://bitcoin.org/en/faq

Anyone could lie so if you see a random dude in the internet claiming this and that, you gotta need some proof, otherwise don't believe it. The instagram and email add can be easily fake, not counted. Blockchain.com in the first place won't recruit users manually.

It's a nice idea that you asked here first before proceeding to that very shady instruction that was given to you. Creating wallet can be done on your own and you don't need to get a wallet from others. He/she might hold the private keys and once you loaded that wallet with a good amount of bitcoin, they'll just retrieve it through recovery words/seeds.

Even it's just an empty wallet, practice that you won't receive or give any detail from others regarding your personal wallet. I think I remember this kind of scam through spam groups on facebook and asks people if they want to earn '0.1 BTC' and their script, 'just reply how and I'll message you'.

I personally encountered one before but of course I didn't bite the bait that they made. They really wanted you to send an exact amount to that address and want to make you believe that you'll earn passively, that's their style.

They will inform you that they are mining and of course they'll use fake pictures of mining farms that they just copied somewhere on the internet. OP you need to have a little more knowledge about bitcoin and start knowing more about on how to create wallets. There's a pinned post about that.

Usually, the scammers are targeting who's new in the crypto world, don't be fooled must do a research and most of all do not get interested by their offers. Must spread and let people aware about this kind of a problem because they are like bunches of virus they keep on spreading everyday.

I hope you didn't lose a lot. It is so hard sometimes to distinguish scam from not scam especially when you are a newbie and to handle a situation you need to spend a lot of time just figuring out what is the truth. Be careful next time!

You are close buddy to get scam. Lucky user's in this forum are very responsive when it comes to queries and questions. There are so many scams in cryptocurrency and it is very hard to identify which one is scam or not. Good thing that in making decision it may be a good practice for user to ask questions here prior to make a decisions on a certain confusing matter.
