Hi,

I wanted to get the community pulse on an idea I've been flirting with. It seemed too good to be true, that nobody has thought of it before. And so I googled it, and it seems someone had tried once and quit.

Picture it: Watching Arizona vs Washington basketball game on ESPN and that goddam moron Bill Walton is commentating. Maybe there are people from other walks of life who want to listen to someone else calling the game. So what do I do? I mute my television and I open the app "You Commentate". I click on the Arizona/Washington game and there are currently 12 other "active commentators".

Now, these can be celebs or everyday Joes. But, they get paid in my crypto for comentaating a game. Heres the nice part, if you dont like a commentator, you can just choose another one. Its just like sitting around watching a game with a friend who isnt in your house. There is no restrictions as to what they can say -- like on espn. They also get paid more crypto for the more ppl they attract to their stream.

So, how do I get paid? We slip ads into commercial breaks of course, audio ones.

Thats a great question. A marketing budget is obviously important, but I believe that networking would be a great way to start. Perhaps a college-age target market would be a good route to begin. I always wonder about the legalities of using a broadcast which I do not have the rights to, how that would be decided in a courtroom.

It might be possible to get the "big dogs" ie NCAA, NFL on board somewhere wayyy down the line. But Im assuming they would fight this tooth and nail?

Any legal advice?

you will have to consult a lawyer to know how to obtain the rights to transmit these games, I think this is your main and biggest obstacle. I do not know if I misheard and i do not remember where I heard, but I heard that to acquire rights to broadcast these games the media pay a lot of money. I do not know if this is true.

No idea is bad if you can execute it.

The biggest obstacles are where to get funds and the bureaucratic issues that often take a lot of time

Correct.
Fact is that launching an idea is not that hard but establishing it is the hardest part. You have to go thought all these obstacles to make it a success.

Good luck OP.

Hmm. Interesting idea for sure, and I actually disagree that you need to get the funding. I do agree there might be a legal issue if you're also watching a stream along with the commentating - but I absolutely think it's legal to just listen to a public audio stream (or even video) of just the commentary.

Brings me back a heck lot of memories about local commentators totally out of their depth at international football! We had this one guy who was the Jack of all Trades in my country. He was decent enough for local football but when he did Olympics or World Cup, it was just hilarious. He'd talk about where Beckham went to shop, or where Neville went to school. Good old days.

But you know, with guys like Ninja getting paid 500k a month for his Twitch streams, don't see how it's impossible.

Quite a few good Bitcoin gamblers active in sports - maybe reach out there in gambling discussion? Partner with some Bitcoin sportsbooks. Who knows?

Not a bad idea but what if people keep just commenting without any viewers? It will be a waste of time to comment on an entire match and not earn shit. You need a major audience first and then the commentators.

But doesn't this normally happen the other way round for all these online "influencers"? They waste their time doing what they like, broadcast a public stream and hope somehow they hit upon something that resonates with viewers and goes viral? I mean, none of these big earners started out earning anything. I remember this blind man doing movie reviews (yes, he was blind so he reviewed movies based on what he could hear, seriously)... he just commentated on movies and uploaded them on youtube (I think). Started from nothing. It caught on. Bet he would earn more if he accepted Bitcoin.

they get paid in my crypto for comentaating a game.

this is the biggest problem that i see with your idea.
basically when you are creating your own cryptocurrency and limit the payments to that only, you are limiting the number of your audience to a handful of people who know about that token and are also willing to spend it (not just speculate and trade).
people aren't going to pay lot of fees to convert their fiat to a token that they can only use for one purpose. they would stick to their TV or go to Twitch and pay/subscribe using bitcoin for example.
