Hi everyone, I have just launched a crowd funding project on kickstarter. The funding is to help me create a Bitcoin Comic. The plan is to create 21 Volumes starting from just before the launch of Bitcoins white paper to now. Every volume will have 21 pages and I will release 21 hard copies (unlimited digital copies). I would love to have some guru's here to check out the first volume when it gets released and give me loads of feedback to improve on the next volume, hopefully making each one better than the previous. I am also going to try an experiment of attaching each hard copy to Bitcoins blockchain. I will need help with this. Once I have all the info together I will put it on here and hopefully get lots of feedback. The plan I have in my head I know is not bulletproof but maybe it will spark some ideas for people much smarter than me to streamline it and make it bulletproof. Project has moved from Kickstarter to a way better platform, BTCPay Server crowdfunding app (no middleman). https://btcpay256286.lndyn.com/apps/3zBJ4FGyRqotCFGw1ktwRJ9hj2Gv/crowdfund

crowdfunding would be needed to covr the cost of publishing (printing) thousands of copies. yet people like to see a prototype/design first
it might be worth you creating just the front page of the comic to show example of graphic quality and expectation of content

Thanks for the feedback, very much appreciated.
I was planning on only making 21 physical copies and releasing the rest as digital copies.
Do you think people would prefer a physical copy rather than digital?
I was going to try a bit of an experiment by linking the physical copies to Bitcoins blockchain (still working on it).
I am not an illustrator. I have paid a guy to draw the first 2 pages that should be completed in the next 4 days. I will add them to this post once received.

In my case, I prefer digital most of the time 'cause its cheaper, easier to store and you can get it instantly. I rarely buy the physical copy of a series which I haven't read, it is mostly those which gained a soft spot in my heart. I am not an illustrator. I have paid a guy to draw the first 2 pages that should be completed in the next 4 days. I will add them to this post once received.
A teaser is definitely needed, provide as much info as possible of what can we expect, particularly on the physical copy like the dimensions, hard or softbound, etc.. Also, you may wanna make your KS page more catchy in the eye by adding images, but yeahh that would cost more money

I have yet to update any info on Kickstarter.
I do have a bunch of instructions that I want to include in the Bitcoin Comic to help people with the following:
Create and backup a Bitcoin wallet. How to verify a signed message. How to sign a message.
I also have an explanation of how the hard copies of the Bitcoin Comic will utilise Bitcoins blockchain for Proof of Ownership.
Can/should I put it on here, the instructions contain images. Would love for people to go over it and give me feedback. Thanks

Your much more likely to get contributions if you make youtube videos. People love someone that is charming and someone that they can relate to. Depending on how charismatic you are it will help a lot. I agree with making some prototypes beforehand as well so people know exactly what they are investing in. Also maybe try contacting some Crypto giants like John Mcafee or Roger Ver to help with funding.

Thanks Indamuck, very much appreciate the feedback.
I do have a monotone voice so a youtube video might not be the best for me.
How much of the comic do you think I should release, i was thinking a couple of pages.
Do you think it is a good idea to show the front cover. The cover hasnt been created yet but it is something i could organise.
Thanks

Its either cbz/cbr, pdf or epub. I don't think there is a significant diff when it comes to quality so the best course would be to offer an option for users to pick which format they want. My personal preference would be cbz tho! How much of the comic do you think I should release, i was thinking a couple of pages. Just enough to capture your readers. Maybe try picking an interesting scene? Can/should I put it on here, the instructions contain images. Would love for people to go over it and give me feedback. Thanks You can but Infographics tends to occupy so much space in threads, I would advice you to just paste the direct links here.
and I see you're not getting many responses, try moving your thread to Project Development

I have updated Kickstarter with the first page of the comic. It starts on September 15, 2008, when Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy.
You just need to click on the link in my first post and then go to the updates tab. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I know I'm late to the discussion, but I think a physical comic book would be fantastic and would be extremely collectible--especially if there were only a small number of them printed.
People have shifted away from "floppies" as far as reading comics goes, but as far as I can see there's always going to be a market for them. With bitcoin still being just 10 years old, a physical comic book could be worth a lot down the road. Look at those bitcoin magazines that were published a few years ago. If I'm not mistaken, they're going for well over what they originally sold for and it's only been about 4-5 years since they came out.
Anyway, good luck with your project. It's always nice to see some passion combined with initiative and creativity within the bitcoin community. If I had any money to spare, I would help out--but as usual, I'm flat broke.

Thanks Pharmacist, appreciate your input.
The plan is to only print 21 physical copies but still have digital copies available. Thought it would be cool to make it a collectable but also printing can get expensive and the cost to ship around the world could catch me out.
Anyway if I achieve my funding goal, I will send you a download link once the comic is complete. Thanks again

Ya, people still buy vinyl records of new music releases. The market for these types of physical collectibles is definitely out there still. I always prefer physical copies of books, movies, and music as well as digital copies. It is nice to have a physical thing you can actually hold and cherish more and it can make as a nice display.

Thanks for the feedback Indamuck.
I have updated Kickstarter with page 2, check it out, click on the link at the start of this post and then click on the updates tab. Let me know what everyone thinks. I am very open to change, whether it's the style of comic, font, pictures, speech bubble size, type of information, anything at all. I guess it may be hard to tell having only 2 pages to go off, just want to make sure I am heading in the right direction.
The next page introducers Satoshi.

I would prefer a physical copy, because digital copies does not have the same feel, when you sit on the toilet, reading your favourite comic. <Dropping your tablet in the toilet is also a big risk> Joking aside, I seriously think the physical copy is something that most of us treasured. <I am giving away my real age here> Comic books also have a collection value, which digital copies do not have. Yes, digital copies will be more practical in a global distribution environment, but it will also be pirated like crazy.

Is it possible to change the campaign information on your main Kickstarter campaign page? If so, I would definitely add the first page of your cartoon there too.
Mentioning this because I think that people who first visit your Kickstarter campaign for the first time don't tend to look any further than the first page. There are no graphical elements or examples of your comic there, so people don't really know what they're donating for.

Thanks eternalgloom for taking the time to look at my project.
I just did what you said and updated the main page, so now it has an image of the first comic page, I didn't even think about that.
Once the front cover is complete I will swap the Bitcoin symbol for the cover page.
I am currently looking at setting up a BTCPay server and launching a crowdfunding app on it. Will be so much better. No middleman, no signup and people can send Bitcoin directly. I think I might get a lot more support this way than with Kickstarter. What do you all think?

I would prefer a physical copy, because digital copies does not have the same feel, when you sit on the toilet, reading your favourite comic. You can buy one of the 21 copies created. I am feeling if this comics is good it might get some kind of collectible value in future due to limited copies. digital copies will be more practical in a global distribution environment, but it will also be pirated like crazy. If it distributed globally as login id/password to a site, not be available to be as a direct pdf to be distributed freely. I guess if price is also ok, than user will prefer to buy instead to take pirated copy.

First of all, what a great idea. I took a look at the project page, and I was wondering why would people pledge over $200 to receive a physical copy. On the other hand, $5 dollar for a digital copy seems very reasonable. Maybe you should focus on a broader and larger audience, to lower the costs. Your idea to cut out the middle man, could be a good strategy, because via other payments methodes, the audience (I guess mainly crypto enthusiast) can pay with their cryptos. In contrary, Kickstarter can help to increase the audience. Anyway, good luck with your project.
