You can avoid scammers if you read the whitepaper thorougly if it makes sense and also check the website and the team. If you want something that's sure, just buy those who are listed. Some ICOs are solid and provide something new so for me it's worth the risk, dont invest money you're not willing to lose.

It would be awesome for projects to finance themselves, but that does not guarantee that the project will be successful. I know a handful of projects that started on such note which made cryptocurrency Enthusiasts expectations very high and bounty hunters were working assiduously to ensure that they earn more of the tokens, but after being listed there was any buy order and even cryptocurrency exchange decided to unlist the project because it wasn't meeting up with minimum trading volume.

Well an ICO thats not relying to softcap or hardcap is not an ICO. As the definition says its an Initial Coin Offering and they are doing that to raise funds to continue developing their project. A project that doesnt need to reached either softcap or hardcap is not an ICO and i know some projects now that did not do an ICO but are quite successful.

yes, sometimes reaching hardcap is not enough to guarantee that the project will run smoothly because not all teams can develop the project well even though their capital is large.

sometimes they don't even care about their coins anymore and only focus on developing their projects so sometimes the coins are left without any development.
therefore we must choose ICO which has a responsible developer.

This is what we try currently. We invested our own money to develop a working software / product, that shall later run on certain token. I think, to be taken more seriously, developers of ICOs should stop making airdrop, 50% bonus programs and answering all the "when will you reach moon?" questions. Sustainability can only be reached if you think in the long-run. The lessons learned from the last couple of years are now put into an own project.

I will start investing in ICOs if
1) they can afford funds on there own to run there projects and stop relying on softcaps and hardcaps(investors money) which is why its the perfect haven for scammers ,you want to create a project that is very promising and you don't have the funds just move on ,no matter how good the project is if the hardcap is not achieved its goodbye

2)the waiting game is annoying ,if they follow my 1st idea there won't be anything holding them back especially bounty rewards ,nowadays you have to wait months for ICO to end and keep praying it become successful so as to get your rewards and the term successful from any ICO is from 'achievement of hardcaps ' this days not what the project is here to deliver ,there are still good projects out there that never launch ICO and they are doing better

Why would you invest if they can rely on their own? Why would they need you in some ways? Have you ever think of that? I guess they need you so they have capping.

If they are being regulated in some legal way then it will increase confidence of investor. Ni matter whether it will lost huge or low. Moreover the sragen where crypto stand today the manager will have to invest their one fund and then invite publik only when project is in growing stage

I see that softcap, hardcap story as a way to even scam people more these days. Most of these ICO projects fake reaching their softcap or hardcap.

If the project is extraordinary with a strong team and large reserves for quality marketing, as well as in the course of pre-sales was collected Softcap and the project does not have a bounty campaign.
p.s. If the project has a bounty campaign, I will wait for the listing and buy the tokens from the bounty participants 10 times cheaper.

If they had enough funds, there's probably not going to be an ICO for you to invest in.
So you could say if they have maybe, half the funds required. Anyways investing in IcOs requires a level of risk so everyone can decide

For OP are you know what is ICO?? If they start from their own funds that's not ICO. They don't need to do it. The purpose of ico is absolutely raise funds, to help the project developt. If about scam, that's why we must do reseach first, also people not fools, they are not easily influenced. Also this forum help us to choose right ICO

The crypto is down. The ICO is failed. Those two are the worst things that we always face this day. We know that the crypto is always surprising. Related to the investment in ICO, I will only invest in ICO if the project really offers the real product i the future, have reached the softcap, and also offer the real time that can be checked from their social media.

This is contradictory... if they have the funds... then they'll be no need for an ico in the first place to kick start a project... ...

If you wanted to join on ICO make sure that project was have long term purposes so we can assure all that project will be succeed in the future of our investment and the potential of the project is very strong. Don't participate on the ICO that had only very beautiful promising.
Just like bittorrent and endchain which have already gained a lot of popularity among the users. Bittorrent has already become our example about how the project that can get a lot of trust from the investors can attract a lot of demands and raised a lot of money.

But check some of the failed projects. Even a nice whitepaper does not help if it is a well prepared scam. I am wondering what kind of research indicators are needed. There needs to be a way to idenitfy persons. Stellar for example introduced the so called Stellar.toml file, that should set some trust in projects https://www.stellar.org/developers/guides/concepts/stellar-toml.html.

1) They will not held an ICO if they have the budget for their product. ICOs are for those projects that never had budget to pursue what they are doing and mostly it's really a haven for scammers nowadays.
2) It's part of their strategy to let everyone wait for a long time.

Well ICO is important as the can raise funds but yes if they can still go ahead in developing the project without fully depending on the investors money then it would be great. I have seen a project that went ahead to develop its project even when not reaching even half of its funding.

It is quite possible that it will turn out that you will not soon invest in ICO, or maybe even never!

there are many projects that has no ico to developt their projects.actually its depend on developers team back ground.usually high quality ico didnt depend on investors fund.
