After much research, I'm contemplating on buying an R9 290x card to start scrypt mining. After seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQhqOKKAq7o , I'm a bit put off. I'm basically new to all of this- not cryptos but computer hardware- and I was wondering how some of you go about keeping the card(s) cool so that the fan speed doesn't increase like it did in that video? Or is there a card with the same hashrate or better that has less noise and around $800 and less? Thank you in advance.

The fan noise WILL be loud on a stock cooler. No way around it, except to buy a different, non-reference model with a different 2-or-3 fan cooler. Those are usually quieter.

There are also aftermarket air coolers such as the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme III.
