What makes a coin dead? I would say when it has no active nodes, no trading volume and no development, in that order. Anyone have a different definition?
My second question, why does CMC still list these coins!?!?!?

CMC is listing coins THAT passed and submit their required standards. For such inactivities of projects, I think it takes months before they delist it or maybe an appeal.

I think coins could be considered dead if the team has no funds to develop or they abandon(No activity for a month atleast)

Coin developers that dont have funding does not constitute a dead coin.  If they abandon fine, but being funded or not has no bearing on a dead or "alive" coin

I think CMC not always update their list everyday except for coin that listed on them. They will listed it immediately. So if you already know if CMC not delisted dead coins immediately, you can filter it by yourself.

This year we will see the death of most coins. I hope these hell days are gone as soon as possible.

Even if they die a thousand times , i dont think developers wont stop creating new replacements  . they will always create another one because thats what you  called s business  .  they earn a profit if people invest on their coin  .

The price maybe dumped right now but there will always be investors that keeps on buying cryptos  . so im not expecting that many coins will die this year  .

My second question, why does CMC still list these coins!?!?!?

In general, the coins will become crap or dead if there is no more investments and activities in their market due to the team owners of that certain coin already abandoned the project. I see no problem if they will be still listed in CMC as long as they will belong to the lowest ranks list in which investors will be caution to not to invest in these coins.

My own opinion a coin dead if :
1. lack of development update
2. Community member decreased and low activity on this community
3. low trading volume on the exchange
4. Too many FUD that makes price dump
5. Their product useless

why does CMC still list these coins!?!?!?

there are so many dead coins that still stand on CMC list, it takes time to remove them on their list...

The dead coins have no interest and there is no price, this makes the loss holder otherwise useless. Indeed, many of us met in CMC, the team still survives for this coin and is likely to still have the funds to stay in CMC, even though there are no interested parties. CMC will not delete it from the list.

Some coins are dead because of the owner leaving out the project or the owner scamming users. For example, Centra token, which was endorsed by celebrities like Floyd Mayweather etc. Unfortunately this project already ended as a scam but still it is trading on some exchanges.

They probably do this to keep records of it, a dead coin does not really take a lot of space in their servers and it is a good idea for them to keep records of such a coin especially since they offer a service that allows you to see all the historical data they have available so it is in their best interest to show they are not trying to hide anything, because if they did not showed the dead coins then people will wonder what they are hiding if they did what you suggest.

Main reason of dead coins is no progress in development of coin or dev team just left the project. Like Whalecoin or Mix, for example.

I believe, CMC delist dead coins, but 1 time in quarter maybe.

Bad market and the nature of that coin is worthless.
There are many other reasons to influence.
But basically, too bad market led to many early deaths coin.

I suppose a dead coin would mean no dev activity and no trading. What we really want to ignore is effectively dead coins, i.e. with very little dev activity or trading - and obviously this is a grey area, and so that's why it's harder to track.

There are different types of dead coins and those factors you mentioned are all valid. You could also consider it a dead coin if they further development with the project or update from their website and social media accounts. I am also wondering why coinmarketcap still considering these altcoins to be listed on their website which could mislead an investor. Coinmarketcap should take consideration wipe those trash altcoins.

Empty GitHub, no news in social media sites, no response in telegram group, but also dead coin could be a coin with active development but without buyers.

also if the roadmap are already done and there is no improvement with the flow of the market of a coin you can also set it aside and consider it as a dead coin, although it has still a value but it wont last anymore.

CMC listing doesn't matter nowadays. You need to see the trading volume carefully, total volume, 24 hours trading volume, team activity to know which coin is dead and which is good. Many coins had good volume, CMC listed them and after then their volume became 24-30 USD, so their ranking now 2100+ ! So, one day, CMC will delist those coins, So, by checking all these things, you are sure that those coins are Dead!

coin can't die , because we can see that crypto development is increasing and the trading volume may be high every day , there is nothing to worry about all because the market conditions are not good

A coin that is still going under active development is never really dead, you can see some coins in the past that lost almost all its value and were considered to be dead by many that eventually recovered because the developers kept working day and night in their project, I know this is rare but it has happened before and it will happen again so the only reason that seems valid to me to consider that a project has failed is if the developers stop working in the coin.
