Hello there,

The merit system made the ranking up harder, which is good to prevent abuses, however some users gave up trying to improve their rank..

Then some questions & answers threads was created to incentive people to make some research and keep posting.

This gamification (rank, merits, etc) is one thing that works and such Q&A threads spreads knowledge.. My idea is a new badge based on a daily quiz that can start with easy questions and get harder..

Eg:
Day 1 - What's Bitcoin total supply?
a) 21.000.000
b) Infinite

Day 2 - What's Bitcoin time block?
a) 10 minutes
b) 10 seconds

(...)

Day 300 - Who created the PoW system?
a) Satoshi Nakamoto
b) Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor

IMO it can make people use the forum in a daily basis and search and learn more about Bitcoin.

There's a empty space above the search button Wink

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Nice idea, I think we should give it a try. The positive effect of it is the research which is required to give a correct answer when the questions are getting more difficult. Maybe we can have different levels of difficulty for each rank.

But I wouldn't use multiple choice questions, because it's too easy to abuse. Simple questions where the answers are only a few words and the participants have to write them down for themselves manually, this should be a good competition.  Smiley

This is a good idea ! This will be a good source of those who seeks merits and for those merit sources who finds it hard where to give their merits that willbe worth it but also there will be a downside on that because if your a newbie then you will surely have less knowledge about what are the answers to the quizzes and this will be a big advantages to those who farm merits for account farmers which has a bigger knowledge and can answer questions easily... This is good but it is a NO NO!  Wink

Then,..It wil just get spammed by a thousand of answers, trust me, this won't work... Self studying is still the best, being lazy just to learn isn'accepted, if they're just gonna rely on those they can't expand their knowledge, they will certainly forgot that in a short time.

It might be interesting if you'll make it on an application, some like "who wants to be a millionaire" game. A system that will generate random questions for the users may not be able to save the asnwer if loop was created.

you'll have to spend more time trying to come up with "correct" questions first, otherwise you will just make things worst trying to help people learn a thing or two. for example the following question is wrong because there is no such thing as "bitcoin time block" or block time, or time between block! so neither a nor b are the answer.
Day 2 - What's Bitcoin time block?
a) 10 minutes
b) 10 seconds

or for example i can easily right click on the following question and select the "Search google for ..." option and copy the answer here. it takes 3 seconds. does that really deserve a merit? not to mention that one of the points of merit was to highlight the good answers in a topic not something that you bend over backwards to earn.
Quote
Day 300 - Who created the PoW system?
a) Satoshi Nakamoto
b) Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor

some people like "Jet Cash" have been doing something like this but at least the questions require some research and some effort and in the end you would actually learn something.

I was going to clarify that but you did.
Also you where correct on the issue of sourcing answers to questions.
That is to so merit a giving to original idea and post.
And his idea would work if the question for theoretical that need participant to compose original answers and avoid copy and paste.

@sabotag3x
So you would like to have this game implemented in to the forum mechanics, not to run it on threads?
It's looking quite fun, just another activity, gamification as you adequately put it.
But I'm afraid it won't be much more. Just a fancy little entertainment, think about it, what value would those K. (knowledge) points represent in today's era, where a simple query in any search engine will result in positive answer? Basically zero :-(
Such thing like timers would have to implemented, with 3 second gap for an answer otherwise you fail etc. but 3 sec after what? Logging in? I never log out for example...
Idea is cool but unfortunately to hard to introduce properly and representably.

There are some suggestions that'll cause more harm than good and aren't that necessary. Asking the forum to implement a daily quiz will just be adding more work load to the forum because it'll need moderation and the mod already got their hands full.  Beside if you need users to participate in the Q&A they need motivation and since you said there's no merit reward I don't think it'll have any success effect.

Then, what's the benefit when after everyone answers the question, is this one idea from you to overcome saturation in the forum,
Or is there something else?
As I know every quiz is asked a question, there is definitely a reward up to what prize.
You are a Legendary position, I appreciate ...? but ...?
Well, if I want to answer all your questions, do you feel happy...?

Eg:
Day 1 - What's Bitcoin total supply?
a) 21.000.000
b) Infinite

Day 2 - What's Bitcoin time block?
a) 10 minutes
b) 10 seconds

Day 300 - Who created the PoW system?
a) Satoshi Nakamoto
b) Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor

The answer:
√1. a) 21.000.000
√2. a) 10 minutes (1 blok bitcoin berisi 12.5 BTC)
√3. b) Cynthia Dwork and Moni Naor

Name: (Cynthia Dwork) (born 1958) (age 60–61) is an American computer scientist at Harvard University.

Name: (Moni Naor) is an Israeli computer scientist.

What's my answer right ...?

I have an idea, for you @ sabotang3x how do you make quiz questions that are a little difficult! Answer 5 questions to members who can answer correctly and give them Merit. It's up to you, if the answers from the members are all right ...? And make a seminar like a prize quiz. Suggestion.

R

I will be very frank on this

Personally, I do not feel this challenge will serve the intended purpose, whether it is started with Merit or without Merit. Those want to learn , they find their way (sometimes it took time to find the right board/knowledge source) but they eventually find it. They are not waiting for any Merit challenges to start their learning.
Those who do not want to learn, will still give substandard /directly copy pasted answer.
As far the, multiple options Q/A concerned , they look to easy to find answer without provoking any thoughts.

But the problem with this is the farming accounts.

If we make it easy for them to get 1 merit, then they will keep farming the bounties. So, this kind of giveaways are fine, but one of the requirements should be a nice posting history, this way we can avoid getting farmers abusing this kind of giveaway.

I don't know if the peeps are really getting the point here since a lot of them are repeating the same thing in their replies that it would be abused, or there shouldn't be such a giveaway etc. That is not what OP is trying to say here (if I'm understanding correctly). The point of doing this would only be to encourage people to take part in a poll, and search for the correct answers of it, which would eventually increase their knowledge. There wouldn't/shouldn't be any rewards for answering (correctly). If someone is getting a bit knowledge out of it, there is no harm in it.

More knowledge = better post quality.

Yeap!

He began by talking about merits and many assumed that this was the purpose of the questionnaire. As I understand it, it would just be something fun and informative to do. And the only reward would be a badge. The purpose would be similar to the phases that sometimes appear on the ad slot.

Spammers wouldn't read it, let alone take part, same as they don't read the rules, the stickies, the news, or even the thread they are posting in. The people who would take part are the people who were already motivated to learn anyway. The people who already know the answers will ignore it.

A knowledge score would result in a small cohort of junior members farming high knowledge scores, while everyone with actual knowledge (see: Technical Support board for examples) would have a score of zero. It would be a useless metric.

You really illustrate how that space isn't being taken advantage of and give a good suggestion on how to utilize it.

I'm not sure I like the idea of simple trivia giving you a "Knowledge" rating, but I think it might be a useful addition to activity.  For example, what if potential activity were increased to 15 per activity period and there was a trivia question every activity period to determine if you receive the extra point?  This would reduce the burden on creating good trivia, eliminate the need for another metric, and still make it a worthwhile endeavor to participate in.  It would also give newer members a leg up on passing the activity of older established accounts that may not be as active recently, while forcing users to learn something new about Bitcoin.

I tried to create topics that could introduce discussion. For example "proof of work" is a fairly old concept, and I have discussed this several times here. In the stone ages a specialist craftsman would shape pieces of flint into weapons or tools. The proof of work was the artefact that the flint knapper could exchange for part of a hunter's kill. It is another phrase ( like block chain ) that the modern Internet has claimed as its own, and given a reduced specific meaning.
