IIRC he announced this late 2017 during the bull run and was stated that he's still studying crypto and blockchain. And on latter of 2018, it's on the news that they have been hiring blockchain professionals which is an obvious act to understand that they will join and adopt the tech soon.

It is very good that people like Mark Zuckerberg thinks blockchain technology is relevant in terms of decentralizing the way people provide and give services online. It is time people in the tech world educate the general public on how blockchain is going to transform the world we find ourselves in it. I also heard and read about those rumors that Facebook will create its own Crypto Currency, I think it is way back in late 2017's when I heard about it. This may be still a rumor but if the CEO of Facebook itself is studying about crypto and blockchain there might be a higher chance that they will create their own Crypto Currency or their own blockchain or they will use the blockchain technology to improve their platform.

This is an old news, there's also a report that Mark recently hire a group or build a new team to focus more on this technology and how it can help in their business model.

So I'm not surprised and I guess Blockchain technology has set the bar so high that everyone which is involves in the IT sector wanted to explore it. Maybe we can see big companies acquiring Blockchain related competitors in the future.

I see no point in creating a Crypt for WhatsApp. About Blockchain, the trend is a wider use than just Cryptos so many people will still come to speak well of technology.

As long that is influencer who said about crypto, even only blockchain technology. It can really affect for market. If we traders, i think we must take advantage from this. But it will be different response from crypto enthusiast.

It only seems obvious that Facebook will develop its own blockchain based digital currency/ies to complement their Whatsapp and Facebook apps. I think Mark Zuckerberg and co will make this update simply to make it easier to secure data.

Quite old news, but yea. Not because somebody is sort of positive on blockchain technology, it doesn't automatically mean they're positive on bitcoin. Knowing Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, chances are, they'd want total control over everything; so basically chances are that they're going to create their own coin/token instead. I think they have pretty much zero incentive to actually use bitcoin on their platform as it wouldn't garner them any profit as far as I know.

Mark Zuckerberg is sitting on an empire that was built on invasion of privacy. It is a fact that Facebook are one of the largest resources of information to the US Government.  Mark Zuckerberg will definitely not use a technology like Bitcoin that gives people pseudo-anonymity.

You can expect a centralized controlled Crypto currency based on the Blockchain technology to be released soon and this technology will be controlled by Facebook. <They will control the mining and the nodes, but the nodes will still be decentralized for security purposes and also redundancy.>

When Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook, Pavel Durov copied it technologies and created a social network, Vkontakte. Now, many years later, Pavel Durov spent his ICO created the coin TON, the idea of the telegram project with the ability to transfer cryptocurrencies to each other in the simplest way, now I see that Mark Zuckerberg creates the same). Dude, the average person is not your average crypto enthusiast. If that were the case Steemit would be more popular than Facebook. If FB push a coin to the masses it could easily overtake the entire crypto market combined.

I think the blockchain technology is a better option for a social network as large as Facebook,if Mark Zuckerberg could eventually accepts to be part of this innovative technology it will be a welcome development for the cryptocurrency community at large and the Facebook community in particular,there is no smoke without fire.
