I decided to make this post out of a question i saw someone asking and I think it's been the problems of majority of newbies as those who introduce them to crypto and forums mainly do so for bounty hunting and newbies are required to explore the forum themselves. Anyway it's good to learn on your own but sometimes a little help is needed. I am no expert ir senior member here but I've been here for some good time.

- First of all, never think about posting for a merit, just post anything you find qualitative and it'll fetch you if it deserves. Becoming obsessed may influence your posts either negative or positive.

- Always read something from the Meta and Bitcoin discussion boards from time to time- you'll find out what the forum doesn't need and what it needs there.

- Don't try learning from the boards with high volume posts (Altcoin discussion to be specific)- you may find so many repeated posts and suggestions and also there are few posts there that educate you.

- Read from boards with less volume, you find adequate analysis of issues there from the indigenous forum members.

- Assess yourself from the type of people replying your posts and the type of messages they send (if you find members of higher ranks replying and analysing your posts, trust me you're making quality posts)- don't think having less merits is because you're not posting "sensibly."

- Also if you find a member who make good posts (that's from your judgment), follow that person- read the type of posts he/she makes and lesrn from that.

Afterall the main motive here is to build a community and not to earn only merits. Prioritize healthy discussion over merits and you'll be good to go. The forum isn't mainly for bounty campaigns but for something bigger than that- that's a whole nation

Yes it is, what theyoungmillionaire stated that merits do kill. Some newbies can't even change their mindset on not to focus on merit alone and will end up preaching other forum users who only seeks for merits while the preaching forum user is not doing it himself/herself.

Another thing you forgot to include is that newbies should also read the forum rules and get themselves used to the rules to avoid breaking them.
Posting for merits isn't the right way to go about it, as you'll eventually end up not getting them
Taking your mind off merits would ironically help you receive them

This kind of mindset might help you to stop being disappointed when your post doesn't get any merit, but I'm not sure whether that will help you to get merits or not. If you really want to get merit then focus on your post quality, increase it and then merit will comes. Just because you set your mindset as "I'm not looking for merit", you won't automatically get any merits too.

People do need money to survive but thinking of this forum as a source of income is not the best practice to do. It is more like an extra income even though you have real job. Most newbies do think bitcoin as a main source income but it's not a main source income, it's better to find real job rather than advertising an ICO which is posdible that it might be scam or fake.

I appreciate you effort but I think you are also fishing for merit yourself and in your guidelines you said they should not focus of merit now that's a case of not practicing what you preach.
We have moved past this merit hunting era and individual should no what's a good post is when he/she just goes through it.

How do you tell if s/he is fishing for merits?  Grin
He just put out a guideline to help out the new joiners. Bashing him/her after making such an effort is not necessary IMO.

... I think you are also fishing for merit yourself...
If you use that logic maybe you are also fishing for merit by suspecting that the OP is and you are hoping you will get some by other members who also think that.  Wink It is a vicious circle.

- Always read something from the Meta and Bitcoin discussion boards from time to time- you'll find out what the forum doesn't need and what it needs there.
Meta is more of discussion of current issue in forum and Bitcoin Discussion is also spam infested. I have no idea how reading in meta helps in learning.

- Don't try learning from the boards with high volume posts (Altcoin discussion to be specific)- you may find so many repeated posts and suggestions and also there are few posts there that educate you.

- Read from boards with less volume, you find adequate analysis of issues there from the indigenous forum members.

Read whatever interest you and learn how to filter content.

- Assess yourself from the type of people replying your posts and the type of messages they send (if you find members of higher ranks replying and analysing your posts, trust me you're making quality posts)- don't think having less merits is because you're not posting "sensibly."

You should not be blind to rank but you should crosscheck the fact whenever in doubt.

I believe the best way to become a good poster is just following one simple rule

Read more than you write.

For every dumb question out there, google it first. Read 50 times more lines than you will write. And you will be good.

Do not post off topic to the discussion, ensure what you post is on the topic discuss, read through to observe if your opinion has not been discuss, in other to avoid  repetition.
To post quality post, research about the topic discuss, before you comment.

Nobody, and I mean it, nobody needs to be an expert but just need experience to share what they've learnt.

- First of all, never think about posting for a merit, just post anything you find qualitative and it'll fetch you if it deserves. Becoming obsessed may influence your posts either negative or positive.

Truly agree with this one, and only choose the right niche you're good at and post there only (as well as learn other niches as well before posting there).

Quote
- Always read something from the Meta and Bitcoin discussion boards from time to time- you'll find out what the forum doesn't need and what it needs there.

Beginners and Help is the second thing after Meta that newbies need to hop into, to know more about what and why they are here for; as well as the rules they need to abide.

Quote
- Don't try learning from the boards with high volume posts (Altcoin discussion to be specific)- you may find so many repeated posts and suggestions and also there are few posts there that educate you.

That's not true, even high volume boards have got some hidden high quality content but that needs efforts to be looked into, it's true that repetitive posts may be seen there but there surely may be good posts if the OP really continues the debate with better questions. To break your dream of getting great replies in a low volume thread, here's an example - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5106354.0
2 reasons for that -
- Question had been asked many times before.
- Answers are repetitive and stupid just so you can find in previous threads which I mentioned in that thread.

Quote
- Read from boards with less volume, you find adequate analysis of issues there from the indigenous forum members.

Above explanation applies here.

Quote
- Assess yourself from the type of people replying your posts and the type of messages they send (if you find members of higher ranks replying and analysing your posts, trust me you're making quality posts)- don't think having less merits is because you're not posting "sensibly."

Not necessarily, sometimes even high rank members post bullshit replies and low rank members conquer the grounds by giving a high quality comment.

Quote
- Also if you find a member who make good posts (that's from your judgment), follow that person- read the type of posts he/she makes and lesrn from that.

Reading and following is fine, copying them isn't.
Plagiarism is banned here, it was necessary to say this as the way you said it, may mislead some to go off track.
