Version 8  - 13/04/2021 (186 profiles merited (by me) in just under 3 minutes)

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

- Merit the last post I’ve previously merited.
- Of all non-banned profiles.
- That have been active during 2021.
- No remeriting already remerited posts (by me).
- No remeriting art contest threads.
- No remerit takes place if last merited post (by me) has been deleted since then, or the user is ignored.
- Last time merited by me between January 1st 2021, and April 9th 2021 (early UTC).
- Had a total amount of merits greater than 1 (as of April 9th 2021).
- Has been merited by at least two people (overall as a profile, not on the remerited post)

Version 7  - 24/01/2021 (278 profiles merited (by me) in just under 5 minutes)

Running into difficulties to deplete my sMerits for a variety of reason, and with the intent of currently trying not to waste them, here goes a new iteration, way before my usual periodicity:

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

- Merit the last post I’ve previously merited.
- Of all non-banned profiles.
- That have been active since October 2020.
- No remeriting already remerited posts.
- No remeriting art contest threads.
- No remerit if last merited post (by me) has been deleted since then, or the user is ignored.
- Last time merited by me between October 1st 2020, and January 22nd 2021 (early UTC).
- Had a total amount of merits greater than 1 (as of January 22nd 2021).
- Has been merited by at least two people (overall as a profile, not on the remerited post)

Version 6  - 24/12/2020 ( roughly 206 profiles merited (by me) in just under 4 minutes)

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

- Merit the last post I’ve previously merited.
- Of all non-banned profiles.
- That have been active since October 2020.
- No remeriting already remerited posts.
- No remeriting 10th art anniversary post.
- No remerit if last merited post (by me) has been deleted since then, or the user is ignored.
- Last time merited by me between October 1st 2020, and December 17th.
- Had a total amount of merits between 2 and 499 (as of December 17th).

(less sMerits available -> narrower criteria)

¡¡¡ Merit xMas !!!

Version 5.0  - 20/09/2020 ( roughly 321 profiles merited (by me) in just under 50 minutes)

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

- Merit the last post I’ve previously merited
- Of all non-banned profiles
- That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020)
- No remeriting already remerited posts.
- No remeriting 10th art anniversary post (except for a bunch that, once I saw them, led me to modify my criteria from there on).
- No remerit if last merited post (by me) has been deleted since then, or the user is ignored.
- No merit nor rank barrier.

Version 4.0  - 17/05/2020 ( roughly 430 profiles merited (by me) in just under an hour)

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

-   Merit the last post I’ve previously merited
-   Of all non-banned profiles
-   That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020)
-   No merit nor rank barrier.

Unfortunately, this is quite manual ultimately, and some mistakes were made on this occasion, leading to a few profiles being merited more than once in this batch, and a few more skipped altogether. Oh bother …

Version 3.0  - 24/02/2020 ( 244 profiles merited (by me) in 23 minutes)

My personal earned sMerit batch has now piled out to a significant figure, and I just don’t want it there piling up for nothing, so I’ve decided to go once again on a wee merit spree in order to reduce the amount, whilst trying to use a criteria that is reasonable. On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

-   Merit the last post I’ve previously merited
-   Of all non-banned profiles
-   That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020)
-   That have a total Merit count of under 250 merits (as of last Friday) – so as to focus on mid-to-low ranks

I have currently merited 908 different profiles, so the above criteria seemed fitting to re-merit some of them. Eventually, it was down to 244 posts that I merited, since a couple were either deleted or on ignore.

Version 2.0  - 19/07/2019 ( 278 profiles merited (by me) in 30 minutes)

I gave it a rethink, and have decided to go on a second sMerit awarding spree from my personal batch. As before, my intention was to re-merit some posts that I had already merited previously (thus no need for me to review the post’s content) in order to get rid of my personal sMerits in a coherent manner. Since I normally award sMerits in TX of 1 (for the most), this allows me to lose my close to Ebenezer Scrooge complex when awarding sMerits, for a short interval of time at least.

I have currently merited 513 different profiles. Since my personal sMerit batch is a bit under 300, I’ve had to trim the candidates to something reasonable.

Criteria (based on merit data as of this morning):
Award an additional sMerit to the last merited post (by me) of any profile that also meets:
-   The last post merited by me has only been merited once by me (this allows me to not re-merit a same post both on spree v 1.0 and spree v 2.0).
-   Regardless of the rank.
-   The post was posted in 2019.
-   The post has not received more than 10 sMerits, adding up all those received from anybody.

That trimmed my list of candidate posts from 513 to 286, which fits my sMerit budget. Eventually, it was down to 278 posts that I merited, since 8 were either deleted or on ignore.

Version 1.0  - 03/02/2019 ( 250 profiles merited (by me) in 1 hour and 2 minutes – What’s got over me?)

I’m still stretching my fingers after going on a merit awarding streak, having just merited 250 people with a single merit in just over an hour. Have I gone bonkers? No more than I may already be …

Looking over my personal sMerits, I saw that I has over 250 sMerits. On top of that, I’m also a merit source, with a now decent monthly allowance (albeit very little free personal time as of late). Since my merit source allowance was basically exhausted, and it will start to refill this coming week, I thought that I’d take some time to (nearly) empty my personal sMerit pool. I came to consider multiple criteria:

-   LMFR (last merited by me, first re-merited)
-   FMFR (first merited by me, first re-merited)
-   Proportional to the amount of sMerit I’ve sent in the past to each profile
-   Proportional to the amount of sMerit TXs I’ve sent in the past to each profile
-   Flat merit per merited profile.
(I discarded using backstabber compensations et al …).

I’ve ended-up choosing the later criteria, and settled on the following refinement:
- Considered all distinct profiles I have merited in the past (from day one).
- Limit them to those that have been active (date of last active on their profile) during 2019.

My current Sent sMerit Network consists of 305 different forum members. After filtering by the above criteria, it was down to 256.

What I then did was award 1 sMerit to the last post I had merited for each of those 256 forum members. Well, 250 really, since 6 had a deleted post as my last merited post, and I decided to skip those (and not default to searching for an alternative post for those 6 cases).
During the process, I had to unignore 3 or 4 people that I has merited in the past at some point and were on my (small) ignore list. They will remain off the list. I may also have made an error or two during my crazy meriting hour, or perhaps not.

I’ve explained the above procedure not so much with the intent of justifying myself, but with the idea that it may serve as an encouragement for others who may wish to distribute some of their personal sMerits that, in cases like mine, are piling up with not much chance of currently going into circulation.

Note: I’m not sure if this is better suited in Reputation, but the intent was to show how I got the above chip of my shoulder …

I think I'll also need to take out some time and do something like that to empty my sMerit's wallet since I'm mostly busy with my studies these days and I rarely get enough time to surf almost all the sections/boards/threads to see quality posts and merit them. I don't really have that much (got about 44 or something), and I haven't really been a very quick meriter in the past since I'm very choosy about which posts should I merit. I'll try to go for a hunt some day just like you and hopefully exhaust my sMerit's wallet in a good way.

P.S: I think I'm one of the 250 people you've chosen to Merit since I received a Merit from you for quite an old post.

It's a good idea to share a little merit for those who are still at BTT. I support your idea and will wait for this merit. Thank you for donating merit

Don't wait for 'this merit' to come to you. There are no donations going on in here. He has Merited posts that are of quality by searching for them based on the criterias he mentioned in the post. Learn to read first of all, and don't post if you don't really understand what is being said. The 'it's a good idea' kind of stuff belongs to Altcoins Announcements threads, not here.

<...>
The above is not a procedure for regular meriting, but rather a method to "get rid" of sMerit that was piled-up and had been there and increasing for some time (the "no sense in hoarding sMerits" phrase was in the back of my mind). The resulting merited posts had already been merited by me at the time, so I simply remerited posts I has already merited in the past (1 per person, being that of the most recent instance of a post I had already previously merited).

When I merit a post I read it thoroughly, and even more so it is a person I have never merited before. The above is nevertheless a remeriting procedure, so all reading and personal vetting had been done in the past.

<...>
I'm afraid you made a wrong reading, as @Alone055 pointed out and I've explained above.

<…>P.S: I think I'm one of the 250 people you've chosen to Merit since I received a Merit from you for quite an old post. <…>
That’s right. It was the last time I merited a post of yours, so I remerited it.

The strategy followed by suchmoon and Vod seems to be the best; Give 4 or more sMerits when you find a good post. So they never let them accumulate too much, and they do not need to plan a new strategy to distribute them. =)

DdmrDdmr is doing the same thing here, just retroactively.

If I had to do something like this I would probably sort the list by how many merits the recipients have sent out and reward most active ones first.

I saw the re-merit today and thought you had done it by mistake  Grin
Otherwise, your inspiration towards low ranked members doesn't go unnoticed.

During the time I have been posting here through my newbie rank to member rank. I couldn't help but recognize that the following members (am not sure whether they are all merit sources) take their time patrol through a majority of boards and are not so stingy when it comes to awarding merit even to lower ranked members so long as the post is good.
- DdmrDdmr
- o_e_l_e_o
- suchmoon
- dbshck
- Foxpup

There could be others but these are the ones that got much more noticed

This is an eccentric but efficient way to offload available smerits. And as you've previously merited the posts in question, you are sure it is up to your standards of deserving posts. And depending on how many merits users has racked up in the interval, you can check the growth of the account.

Oh, I thought that you might be reading so old post in B&H board when I received merit for that post . After reading OP it just made realized that there is indeed a very long gap since I last received  merit from you.

You have no need to justify yourself because you are clearly  following the below directive from theymos

It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

----snipped----
I appreciate the work of you and other sources who take it seriously!

For me it is at least  the gap of more than 174+, because I was member having less than 100 Merits at that time.

I wish I was this much of a math-head, but when it comes to giving merits it never seems to need that much analysis.  A post either reaches the threshold of being worthy of merit or it doesn't (in my mind at least), though I could exactly describe how a post meets that threshold.  Anyway, good for you for spreading the love around.  If you've got that many sMerits and are a source, it's definitely best if you get rid of them.  Seems like there's not too many members ranking up lately, and I'm pretty sure at least some of them deserve to but are being held up by the merit requirement.

Sounds complicated, i simply merit posts based on the quality and member rank (i set lower quality standard for lower rank)
Exactly.  I even agree about the bar being lowered for the lower ranks, although I haven't lowered it too much.  When it comes to deciding whether to merit a Newbie or Jr. Member who hasn't earned any merits previously, I'm always reluctant and have to make sure they're not plagiarizing or putting all their effort into a single 'merit-bait' post, after which they'll resume a life of shitposting.  Above Jr. Member rank, I tend to do less checking and there's less hesitation on my part.  I just wish there were more good posts being made by those lower-ranked members.  Every time I go looking for the buried nuggets, I end up finding other crap instead and I get extremely sidetracked.

I do try. Smiley

All five of those users are indeed merit sources, which you can see by comparing how much merit they have sent (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendat) and how much they have earned. My merit source allocation is very low*, and I find I actively have to refrain from meriting good posts by users who don't "need" the merit like suchmoon, The Pharmacist, LoyceV, etc, so I still have some available to send to non legendary members who deserve to rank up.

*Is it cheeky to ask for boost already? I've only been a merit source for a month, but I used up all my source sMerits in about 6 days, and now I'm on my last 1 or 2 of my own sMerits too.

I was very surprised when I saw today that you dug a post that I wrote a few months ago and rewarded it with merit (especially that it was quietly drowning in the depths of the meta section ;-)).

Only now after reading this thread I understood what happened ;-)

I am not sure if i should use the word need, but i am pretty certain these guys would wan't more merit ( each have their own purpose), it's never enough, the more you get the more you want, it's like drugs for self-achievements.

but to be honest,i most of the time tend to search for low rank members to merit too  Grin

P.S: I think I'm one of the 250 people you've chosen to Merit since I received a Merit from you for quite an old post.

I also noticed that, I was thinking back earlier for I have seen that my Merits has been gone to 161, whenever I get one I always check who gave me that and for what post of mine, as I looked into my Merit history it was DdmrDdmr giving Merit to my Activity Tips on Ranking again.

Anyways thanks, only 89 left before I got to the next League. Tongue and also I don't even think awarding Merits in just one day is an issue here, it would be if you're handling it into the wrong accounts.

Is it the end of the world for DdmrDdmr? Huh Tongue (Just Joking)
