when it comes to giving merits it never seems to need that much analysis. A post either reaches the threshold of being worthy of merit or it doesn't (in my mind at least), though I could exactly describe how a post meets that threshold.
Exactly. Just because you have money in the bank, it doesn't mean you have to spend it. In fact, if you spend the money unwisely, it may just be an indication that you are overpaid.

I can only say that DdmrDdmr is probably one of the most active merit sender on this forum and for sure one who is send most merits in 30 minutes. Challenge accepted I'll wait until my scraper is done, so I can use the maximum number of page loads per minute I gave it a rethink, and have decided to go on a second sMerit awarding spree from my personal batch. As before, my intention was to re-merit some posts that I had already merited previously (thus no need for me to review the post’s content) in order to get rid of my personal sMerits in a coherent manner. I've been thinking of a way to "unload" my own stash of sMerit for a while now. In the past weeks, I managed to reduce it from 560 to currently 461. I was thinking of only re-meriting users who don't have enough for Legendary rank yet. Lately, I've sent extra Merit to a few users who deserve to rank up and were close. I'd also like to continue this by sending larger batches to a small number of users. FWP Merit source dilemmas

I wish I have such problems as too many smerits . Never happened to me, because I created some time ago a list of posts which I want to merit and is growing a lot faster as incoming merits. Taking into consideration, that I awarded almost every post with only one merit, this OP strategy would be fully applicable, but I am not so good in hoarding merits, as a majority of members in this thread. Despite, I am in the 100 most merited club. I think there are so many valuable posts on the forum, that there is just no need to go back, to previous awarded posts and merit them again. Of course, different members have different reasons behind meriting this same posts a couple of times and are free to do what they wish, but taking into consideration, how many high-quality posts are still not merited, I would rather vouch for a different approach. There are already special threads, were merit sources and other members are able to find not merited posts and members. Maybe this is a good place for search if one has a couple of merits to give away. I have seen a great thread from Suchmoon lately, Users that you should merit. In this thread, every member can ask for a detailed list of his not merited or rarely merited members. This thread is a great place to check if there are problems with too many smerits to give away in a short period of time.

Just to be clear, what I did here is abide by the principle of not hoarding merits. Being a Merit Source allows me to merit many posts (especially in 1s). What I did here is award a batch from my personal sMerits, rather than leave them there for ages on end. I could also spend another zillion hours looking for posts to merit with them, or simply do what I did which is basically, using my same meriting criteria (which is decent enough and as wise as it gets), revisit some of the posts and merit them again. The net effect is basically as if I’d given them 2 to begin with, which is no overkill.

I see where you're going with this statement and to be fair you mean well but putting the personality of DdmrDdmr into consideration I doubt this act of his can be tagged unwise spending of merit. Haven't looked through his recent merit record but I have known his meriting habbit to be associated with awarding mostly just 1 merit per quality post (personally I have recieved that 25+ times on different occasions) so if he decides to double that on occasional bases i think it should be welcomed When it comes to awarding merit to deserving post is there anything like over meriting

Oh, I was wondering why you merited my post twice just in two days. And here is the answer. Amazing job @DdmrDdmr! Damn, I didn't spent even 200 smerits in 1.5 year and you merited over 250 users in such short period of time. Probably I'm too lazy to spent my smerits more often, but you gave me good motivation!

The strategy followed by suchmoon and Vod seems to be the best; Give 4 or more sMerits when you find a good post. So they never let them accumulate too much, and they do not need to plan a new strategy to distribute them. =) Pretty much. The more you spend, the more that comes around. Not like there's much tax (entropy).

I go the opposite way, I only award say 5 or more if its a coder or someone who works behind the scenes but isnt a big forum poster. Anyone who is regularly posting should be fine with say 1 or 2 merit as they have a multitude of posts to gain attention and be awarded merit. Also its just necessity, I dont want to run to absolute zero merits really/ Merit system is naturally deflationary imo.

And so, we have the good idea to spend our sMerits if there isn't something a new Meritable Posts. This might be ridiculous for my board but still a good way to keep our circulations on the line.

Merit system is naturally deflationary imo. Merit distribution is actually quite stable if you ignore the first 3 months: And this is a good or bad news? I'm a newbie and i'll try to understand this complex system. For me is really interesting Well, Loyce did not attribute any moral value to his observation about the distribution of smerits stabilizing, but I would imagine that kind of evidence would support assertions that merit sources are generally spending their smerits in a consistent amount with the passage of time and on a monthly basis. There had been some earlier accusations that merit sources were not sufficiently spending their smerits, so in that way proclaiming that the way that this merit system is flawed in both its design and how it is playing out. Surely it seems to me that the level of complaining about the smerit system has gone down, unless I have just been visiting the wrong threads or coming to the wrong conclusions regarding the substance of the smerit posts.

1) Self-Custody is a right. There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Surely it seems to me that the level of complaining about the smerit system has gone down I would agree with this assessment. However, I don't know whether that means merit distribution is sufficient and there is now enough distributed merit to "trickle down" to all deserving accounts, or whether that means that the people complaining about merit have realized that complaining about it won't change the system and won't earn them any merit so they have just given up. There is little activity in Loyce's Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source thread, other than users just fishing for merits by reporting their own posts, and the ones that do get posted usually get merited pretty promptly. There are likely still a few good newbies going unmerited, particularly in the altcoin and local boards, but for the most part I think merit is reaching those who deserve it.

I have currently merited 513 different profiles. Since my personal sMerit batch is a bit under 300, I’ve had to trim the candidates to something reasonable.
You should run for a record... how much posts can you merit maximum in 30 minutes

I can only say that DdmrDdmr is probably one of the most active merit sender on this forum and for sure one who is send most merits in 30 minutes. Since I get good % of my merits from him, I can only say thanks for good work and wish him good holidays⛵
If he say where he will spend his holidays, maybe someone can buy him a beer or something like that🍹🍨
If we were to go by the merit stats page of the most generous merit senders of all time, and the most recent we would come up with the following: All time: 17124: suchmoon 12553: dbshck 8951: chimk 8629: Foxpup 5319: bones261 5294: LoyceV 4814: qwk 4396: Flying Hellfish 4383: TMAN 4275: Vod Most recent: 920: chimk 777: suchmoon 542: LoyceV 512: Foxpup 478: DdmrDdmr 470: bones261 398: dbshck 372: Flying Hellfish 312: DarkStar_ 304: Halab I'm not sure when DdmrDdmr was made a merit source, but it seems that your assessment would be accurate for the most recent merit senders, however in the grand scheme of things the all time merit sent is quite staggering with Suchmoon, and dbshck leading the way by a considerable amount. Overall, I don't think there's too many surprises with the names that pop up. What is impressive is DdmrDdmr on the merit sources statistic page has only 200 monthly allocation apparently. I'm unsure if that's accurate, and if I'm understand that page correctly, but considering the small amount of monthly allocation, I would say he's doing pretty well to distribute his earned merit which I do admit its a fairly regular income for them.

Version 3.0 - 24/02/2020 ( 244 profiles merited (by me) in 23 minutes)
My personal earned sMerit batch has now piled out to a significant figure, and I just don’t want it there piling up for nothing, so I’ve decided to go once again on a wee merit spree in order to reduce the amount, whilst trying to use a criteria that is reasonable. On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:
- Merit the last post I’ve previously merited - Of all non-banned profiles - That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020) - That have a total Merit count of under 250 merits (as of last Friday) – so as to focus on mid-to-low ranks
I have currently merited 908 different profiles, so the above criteria seemed fitting to re-merit some of them. Eventually, it was down to 244 posts that I merited, since a couple were either deleted or on ignore.

Thanks for meriting my node post. Kuffy seems to be the default sobriquet on the netbook, Jet Cash is on the notebook. It did give me a bit of encouragement, as I think I will return to running at least two nodes, and maybe discussing them here. Hopefully that will help newbies who have to use public WiFi.
