And how do you create merit for yourself? You can only earn merits by your useful and quality posts unless you are a merit source who is getting monthly allocation apart from what you earn to distribute on the forum.But what you want to say? We should give merits who want to receive it because everyone wants it to rank up but only to those who deserves it there is big difference in both the terms.

@firesurfer This is a forum, not a place for almsgiving and the merit that is given to each post is proof that the post made by that person touches the giver of merit. As long as you know if merit is given arbitrarily (almsgiving) it will cause many bad effects such as jealousy and dissatisfaction, besides that giving merit is ineffective (posts that deserve to get merit don't get it), then merit sources must give merit properly on posts that are appropriate not for almsgiving.

Account firesurfer is older than mine, and he looks like one of the reasons the Merit system was created. I'm pretty sure the account changed hands one or more times, he gave up typing Indonesian since his password changed 2 years ago.

I have never visited LoyceV report unmerited posts thread.
What I understand about merits is that you will work for it and chase it.
Even if you keep making quality posts without calling the attention of the merits sources to your quality posts, they will go unmerited.

Part of the reason I created that thread was to prove not many good posts don't get the Merit they deserve, but another part of the reason was to actually find those users who deserve it.

Nice to see that the thread have been serving its purpose very well as it has ran into pages.
The introduction of the merit system is one reason here is still enjoyable because I cannot image the magnitude of spam that would have been in this forum. No system is ideal for sure, but my sincere gratitude to those who ensure distribution of merits to keep the system working.

It was such a tremendous effort to be honest. I even received one merit from him this morning!

I wonder what kind of tool he used to merit 1221 posts within 21 minutes or was it done manually? It's truly impressive.

Of course, he is a human, but his automation tools impress me. send 1411 Merits in a day in different posts and threads.
What is interesting to me is not just the quantity, but the consistency. The merit is spread across many different threads and contexts, not the origin of the throw. This means that there is a process of reading, assessing, and then deciding, even though it is assisted by automation tools.

At this point it is clear that the tool is only a support, the decision remains in the hands of the human. It is precisely this combination that makes the distribution feel efficient without losing direction and we rarely see a pattern like this happen manually in a short period of time.

He's human but he's using an automated tool. If you read OP you see the criteria.

Congratulations to those who benefited from the last distribution. I hope it helps some to rank up. Even though I think some of my posts meet the criteria, I didn't receive any. I hope I can get some in the next distribution. It's much harder to earn merit as a Legendary user because you don't need it for rank. However, it's still one of the important metrics for entering sig campaigns. Members in lower ranks can earn much more merit easier. This is another weird situation that I haven't been able to figure out on this forum for years.

Man that's some big numbers we're talking about. Finding that amount of good posts to send these merits might be a hard job, and surely he won't be meriting bad posts, rights? So in that case,  how does he handles this enormous task?! Does he manually saves the posts he wanna merit and maybe make a list & sends it to his helping buddy?

I don't think so, I just understood the pattern and looked randomly at posts and threads that got merit. I see DdmrDdmr doesn't distribute its merit on posts or Threads that have absolutely no merit before.

So in conclusion, the merit that is distributed is a kind of additional support for writers whose posts are indeed decent.

To be frank I am still thinking how he does it, and of course I also get 2 from him on 2 different post that already gained several merits. At some point I was actually thinking that the bot could also be designed in a way where to merits the most interactive threads and topic of people and whenever they are collected then, he may decide to put the amount per post and then triggers it, it would automatically starts distribution. This is just my personal thinking but I could be wrong.

I doubt if it is harder for a legendary rank to earn merit because since they have already achieved that rank, their posts will not be seen as someone who wants to farm/fish merits but most posts of those lower ranks are basically seen as a way to farm merits. However, merits are being given to quality posts so whether you are a legendary or a newbie, if you make quality posts there are members and merit sources who will come across your posts and give them merits. Perhaps, a legendary member still needs merits because there are signature campaign managers that gives more attention to profiles that earns merit regularly when they want to hire campaign participants.

You have it in the OP, even though he hasn't updated the merit spree explanation this time. Normally, what he does is re-merit posts that he has already merited and merit posts that he has not merited but that meet a series of characteristics. I quote the explanation from previous merit sprees.

Version 57 - 31/12/2024  (147 posts merited (by me) in just under 3 minutes) -> 310 sMerits
Remerited all my merited posts since my last spree (+ some backlogged pending ones), for non-banned users (up until last friday ).

Version 56 - 09/06/2024 105 posts merited (by me) in just under 2 minutes) -> 105 sMerits
Merited all posts that:
- I have not merited before.
- Have received merits from at least five different people since may 2024.
- Are not in Services nor in WO nor in off-topic.
- Are not in a bunch of threads I've discarded.
The goal is to merit post I have either ignored or not come across in boards I do not visit, and that others seem to deem merit worthy, allowing me to unload a bunch of sMerits in the process.

You have been registered on the forum nearly as long as me ingiltere, and it seems to me that it takes time for forum members to get to know you (and any members) and/or to want to send you merits.  Of course, merits were not introduced until January 2018, so we did not have merit sending as a measurable factor until early 2018.

At the same time, I still believe that in the beginning of my own registration, almost no other members would interact with me, so I had a lot of posts that had no members responding to them - even though in my first few years on the forum I mostly ONLY participated in the WO thread.. and so I did not really venture outside of that thread until a few years after I had registered on the forum.

I think that to get merits, you post in areas that you are interested, and perhaps you will notice what other members are interested in, so then if members share interests, they are more likely to send smerits.

I agree with the general idea that longer term members are more likely to receive merits than brand new members, so if anyone has advantages (all matters equal), the longer term members are advantaged - especially if they have never been accused of using AI to post.
