It's a good opinion from Australian Treasury. He delivered a wise view related to future of ICO. Even if he knows very well about the risks on ICOs, but still believes it can be solved. I agree that it is possible to fix the problems in ICOs.

ICO is not that bad, but the initiators are the problem and if Australia are so concern about making it a good deal then there are ways to regulate it for safety of the investors to make it work for everyone and the prospect of the country as well, I think they have some tackle measure to make it work and most could try can also support and add any other way to prevent the image of their country as well.

Ico is a good tool for the development and advancement of technology. Another thing is that now it does not work and is used in the wrong direction. And so a very big prospect.

I think ICOS just need some regulations enforced and scammers to be penalized  and punished if they run away with investor's funds, which so many have done in 2018. Even so many that paid me out my tokens so they pretended to be legit also didn't bother to get their tokens on exchanges so their tokens that we paid for in ETH or other hard crypto currencies like Bitcoin etc, or even with Fiat were deemed worthless. So yes, we can all be optimistic for ICOS in the future but when I have like over 80 totally dead tokens and useless worthless numbers sitting in my wallet right now from dead ICOS that took the money and ran, it still is a very bleak area indeed right now. I do hope the situation is improving in 2019 and us investors and also promoters get our dues.

No one can't denies that ICOs are great form of investment because it is giving huge returns when compared to already found cryptos but those risks are the problem,and it will be better to give the decision making power to the people who willing to take risk on ICOs or not than banning it from their citizen.

That's true, basically icos just need a little regulation to verify the creator. That will protect the investors from the scam icos. Basically, most of scammers will never try to do that to reveal their identity to the governments.

I'm not very familiar with the source that OP has given if someone from Australia can verify those statements it will be a great cover. What I'm saying is I'm avoiding unnecessary articles which didn't came from a reliable source.

But let's assume that all of those info are facts, ICOs can still be a good strategy to fund a project. This should really be the use of ICO but during the all time high it became different and it just became a funding for tokens without real usage.

Overcoming risk by implementing additional  rules will surely lessen the problem of potential scam, if they will provide that investors from that
country will gained trust and interest knowing that there's a supplemented ruling that will protect their money.

This will served as a good start for more countries to change perspective regarding to crypto investment, especially ICO's.

If they want to get rid of the dangers of ICO than they should start looking into STO. If they somehow manage to merge the ICO system with a governmental approval or registration than they could become the home of many upcoming new coins. All the new coins has to do would be having an office and applying for registering with their real names and real address. That way if anything bad happens like ICO trying to scam people the government would have all the info they need to catch these people and help people sue them and get their money back.

Unfortunately right now the system is giving the scammers some anonymity and that creates some problems for everyone. Australia or any other country could change that with just one simple law and that would be really looking at it positively.

I'm glad to hear this news. I wonder if there will be another surge of ICO trend because of their decision... and I guess not. New regulations should be developed and some organizations should monitor their implementation and execution in future. It's the question of 5-10 years of work.
