I'm on android 8.1 and chrome 72.0.3626.105. I think it's an issue with the browser but it only happens on this forum? Does anyone know of a way to solve this as refreshing the page doesn't work.

Here is a post describing such a problem, it's quite old but might do the trick. Check it out and let us know.

Quote
Here's a fix for those of you dealing with the annoying chrome "black screen". This issue crops up for some when chrome doesn't properly refresh open tabs or when chrome sits in the background for some period of time. For me, I'd get a black screen in as little as two or three minutes of inactivity. The problem started when chrome updated itself a few months ago.

Anyway, here's the fix:

Go to chrome:// flags and scroll to Delegated Renderer (AKA bercompositor) then switch it from default to enabled

Interesting, I've experience it yesterday for the first time now on my Android mobile phone.
I though that too many apps were open at the same time and I have not enough free memory, but looks like it's not the case.
Thanks for bringing this up.

I'll try what pmalek suggested however it could be too much resource usage as I've been keeping my lightning channel online as a test so that's definitely going to be using quite a bit.

May I know what android phones are you using? I notice that jackg is running in android 8.0 which is the same as my Galaxy S9 as it is still running under Android Oreo but I don't experience any black screen on either the Samsung Internet app or the one in Google Chrome, both apps are also up to date as I turned on my auto update in the Google Playstore. What I notice though is before when I have a Galaxy S5 is sometimes pages from websites including the forum goes into a black screen.

Yeah that's the same that happens to me. But it just seems to be this website that doesnt.

@pmalek, that option doesn't seem to exist in the chome://flags. I can't find one that resembles it.

I also had that problem yesterday. Android 8.1. But only on certain thread(s).
Never before and now it seems to be gone. Edit: still occurring.

Maybe somebody's signature was misinterpreted by Chrome for Android?

Same here. The option doesn't exist. So this seems to be a newer issue with similar behavior, not the same one.
I'm on Pixel XL with Android 9. I'm using the latest Chrome Beta 73.0.3683.27.
Scrolling the black page fixes it temporarily.

Anyway, I don't think this belongs to Meta. This is not an issue with the forum as this happens to me on other pages too. This seems to be related with Chrome/Android.

It also happens to me, also the forum is kind of slow on loading (not an internet problem, I've tried several networks). To bypass the black screen just start scrolling up or down and it will be gone.

This used to be more prevalent in the windows xp / 98 days and with internet explorer.
Basically, it's a graphics / low ram issue.
1. Just disable hardware acceleration from the settings and you'll be fine.
2. Get better hardware.

I've got something different, but still interesting, when I use Opera.
The forum is OK, unless I start to create a post. When I start to post, the background of the input field (text box) becomes blue, different shades, and if I wait for a bit, it becomes grey, several shades also, but different line by line...
It's not so disturbing, unless the text box starts to flicker, which happens when the cursor blinks.... interesting Smiley

I'm not sure I can post it because I think the imei is something to do with the aim (OK I hate smartphones, there I said it)...

Anyway, its a huawei p20 pro with 128gb of storage (100gb free) and a kirin 970. It is actually faster than most of my laptops in terms of clock speed.

Not sure why you guys are having that issue. So far it works fine on my Nokia with Android 9 and Chrome browser.

Two more things that you can try.
Some guy had an issue with his android browser displaying only a black background. Turns out he turned on night mode in his internet settings.
Quote
Did you turn on night mode in Samsung Internet? Go to setting and select turn on/off night mode.
Maybe you accidentally did that as well?
https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2734420

Another site I found for a game talks about a workaround for the black screen issue. Maybe the same steps can be done for your chrome browser

Quote
Android 8 Black-Screen Issue Workaround
There seems to be a compatibility issue between the Apps-Engine and Android 8 regarding the display of the permissions. Please go to Settings -> Apps&Notifications -> choose Catan Universe -> Permission -> activate the permission “storage" manually. The App will start again. properly.

Lol I just got the screen when trying to access this page...

Maybe I should try disabling signatures and see if that helps but I dont want to because they look nice.... Most of the time anyway. Or add everyone on fj to my ignore list...

Many people suffer this problem on android devices.. here is the first simple soloution that you should try for every app if it stucks or having trouble while opening .. go to "setting" and then "apps" there search for that app and click on that then click "force stop" .. it is the simple soloution for every app .. you should try on chrome also .. however if it dosenot help you should try this:
Go to chrome:// flags and scroll to Delegated Renderer (AKA Übercompositor) then switch it from default to enabled.

I've had this happen a couple times the last few days.

Best thing to try is wait a second once the black screen comes up then try scrolling down. Once I did that the page displayed properly. Prior to that I shut it down and restarted, closed all apps, went from wifi to network and back.

Who knows may have just been lucky with the scrolling things but I haven't had a black screen to try again.

I've resolved it twice by hitting the home button and opening it from the open apps selector.

Both of those were today when I finally thought I'd try it.
I put pmalek on ignore and it didn't do it again with this thread but my conscience will lead me to unignoring him soon enough.

Hmm that is strange. But you were already experiencing the problem before I posted here, hence my posts trying to figure out why it's happening.
Can it be my signature or the dark logo?
You probably can't see what I am writing since you have me on Ignore but try to check if you are experiencing the same issues for other users that wear the FortuneJack sig/avatar. Maybe visit the Signature campaign thread or their ANN page.

Interesting, It happen again today exactly on this thread. What a coincidence Cheesy
Till now this is the second time I experience it, but this time it was for a very short time. I just scrolled down and the black screen disappeared. Just to note, this is not the first time I open the thread from the phone. Seems like there is no specific pattern of those black screens.
I haven't done/changed anything yet. I'll look into it more if it becomes a bigger, more annoying problem.
