@iasenko, I'm like nc, can't go to sleep unless all my chrome tabs are shut Smiley.

@cabalism, you can scroll down or hit home and reopen the browser other than that, nothing else apparently works...

I can't reproduce this on any of my devices, so I can't effectively investigate it. But I suspect that it's a recently-introduced bug in Chrome's hardware-accelerated rendering. Disabling hardware acceleration might fix it; maybe chrome://flags/#disable-accelerated-2d-canvas ? (NeuroticFish reports this isn't it)

If anyone can figure out exactly what causes it or whether I can change anything on my end to fix it, let me know.

I disabled that setting so I'll see if it happens again now. It's strange they'd enable it by default though if it's an experimental feature...

I have turned off many settings at once, the problem disappeared. Now I reset all the settings back to default and the black screen returned, tomorrow I'll start turning off all the settings one by one to see which one makes the issue. I'll start with the 2D acceleration first and will testbit for one day.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Have you tried re-installing chrome? maybe it's because of the recent update of the app? ( I can't try it on my own for I don't have any enough data remaining on my load to continue on downloading a new app) Maybe re-installing it without updating the app may solve this issue (Just keep on using old version of Chrome App)? Huh

maybe chrome://flags/#disable-accelerated-2d-canvas ?

Just fyi: I've disabled "accelerated 2d canvas" and the problem still occurs. (Android 8.1)

Did you have to do that? I had hope briefly that it was going to fix the issue  Cry.

@iaseko do you know the settings you turned off in order to fix the issue earlier?

Just reported this issue to chrome in playstore and they just suggest to clear the browsing cache of the app. So far never encountered this black screen anymore maybe later  Huh

Today I changed the following Settings in the
chrome://flags >

1.Override software rendering list >
From Disabled To Enabled.

2.Accelerated 2D canvas
From Enabled to Disable

3. Hardware Accelerated Video Decode
From Enable to Disable.

4. GPU rasterization
From Default To Disabled

5.Bloated Render detection
From Default To Disable

Let see how it will act with those settings now.

I'll turn off one every day and report here.

Note: After applying this settings the bitcointalk is opening a bit faster than before.

Edit:
Got a black screen(BS for short) again with all those disabled settings above. It's not as often as before but still got one.
Last time with the same settings I didn't got any BS for almost two days.

In addition I got a BS while posting this message.

Some observations :
- I left the phone to locks itself with BS on, and when I unlocked it, BS was gone.
- No matter how long you wait the BS does not go away until you scroll down.
- If you refresh a page on which the BS appear, it will appear again.
- BS can appear on any Bitcointalk page, Profile, Personal messages, search engine, on pages without signatures/forum ads.
- I haven't experienced BS on other web sides, only on bitcointalk.

Also clearing the browsing cache was not the ultimate solution: the black screen still occurs now and then.

I finally experienced it on another website too. I'm sure it's related to the last update. I'll contact the chrome/android support to find out what is actually wrong.

Have had the same problem with only certain topics on the forum. And yes only on the forum.

I finally figured out that all I have to do is scroll up or down and then all goes well.

This is the one of the topics that I get a black screen on my cell phone only.

 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5111005.0

But by chance I scrolled up or down and it cleared up. Wink

Does cleaning browser's data works? I'm using an outdated Google Chrome App and seems like nothing is wrong with this one. Try to clear it's data and cache if it's working. I guess its because of the capacity or ram that the phone can only handle.

Edit: I updated my chrome I also fell this problem and try to clear it's data and cache.

No, didn't help. Yesterday I installed chrome beta . Up till now didn't experienced any problems. I guess this black screen issue will be resolved with the next update.

I'm on android 8.1 and chrome 72.0.3626.105. I think it's an issue with the browser but it only happens on this forum? Does anyone know of a way to solve this as refreshing the page doesn't work.

Also using Android 8.1 phone and notice I expressed the same issue after updating my chrome to the latest version. In my case I get a black screen when I try to open new thread but after few minutes or if I load another site on a new tab, the tab Bitcointalk was opened on display correctly.

I uploaded the issue on my WhatsApp status due to the fact, I got some tech friends on my contact and got a suggestion that I should delete my lastest updated chrome version and use the previous version that the fault could be from the new chrome version. I did just that and now it's working just fine.

Conclusion, the fault is from the new chrome version, use the outdated one for the main time.

Yes, didn't resolved the problem. It's better to use another browser  and wait until the next update is released.  Another version of chrome is better to be use at this moment like Chrome Beta. You can also uninstall the update of your Google Chrome on it's Application settings.  I'm using Chrome beta now thanks.

It has to be something else besides the Chrome version. Maybe Android version + Chrome. It seems that most of the users who reported the problems are using Android 8.0 - 8.1. I m using Android 9 and have not seen the black screen anywhere when using Chrome.

I also use Android 9 phone, but I had this issue with black screen. But in recent days I get black screen not that often as in first days when this issue was reported. Probably it's just an issue with current version of Chrome, because as @iasenko said he haven't got black screen on Chrome Beta. Let's hope that in next version of Chrome this problem will be solved.
