Hi guys,

I have a S9 control board Cyclone V2.4 and C5_IO_Board_V1.3 without access, it responds to IP asking user and password but says always wrong, it dont make RESET and dont mine so its not hacked it seems more like one error, because it dont answers port 22, connection refused with PUTTY.

I was trying to recover it by flash card, but this one have no jumpers, anybody knows if there is some possibility of make it start from SD CARD with some shunts in the board?

Thank you.

So have you tried both forms of factory reset?

What resetting method you already done? If you just push the reset button it won't restore/reset to the factory default.

If you don't know how to fully reset your s9 miner you can follow the guide from this link Three Ways to Restore Factory Settings (R4/S9/T9)

I tried all RESET forms and dont work, this happens after one RESET that i did it, but now i cant RESET anymore, you know this model?
If there is one SD Card slot it should give to use it, maybe there is some special points to act as jumpers or using some flash programmer with some JTAG, what you think?

JTAG is for EMMC chip(With a tool easy JTAG) mostly for latest Samsung they use this JTAG to reprogram EMMC and I think it is not applicable for ASIC miner like S9.

Do you have any image/photo of the control board or could you take a picture of your control board and let's see if we can find the jumper to make your sd card flashing work.

Edit: Also check this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5032987.0. It might help to reprogram the control board.

It is probably cheaper and quicker to replace it considering how long you will go without hashing while you try and figure it out.

Replacing it might be a good idea but it looks like the price of s9 control board is too expensive from Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/Antminer-S9-Data-Circuit-Board/dp/B01N3RLTV0
I don't think it's worth it to replace it with brand new control board.

@OP I'm sure the jumper on the control board is the same location as an old version of the antminer s9 control board.

As a general rule never EVER EVER EVER buy crypto related things on amazon. The prices are outrageous there, its mostly people trying to capitalize on ignorance. I found one on ebay for half that price in about 20 seconds of looking.

Here is the link, this control board is made by 2 parts like old S7 i think:

https://ibb.co/gv3hb8Y

There is no jumpers and i dont see any place for them like normal jumpers in S9 new control boards, this view is just for outside, someone know this board for S9?

This is the called C5 board that is not compatible with Low Power Mode firmware.

Never seen this board before it seems that the jumper is under the black/dark green board if you can find the jumper maybe jumper is not the same as the old board of s9 miner.

Maybe the jumper looks like a switch like this one below.

https://ibb.co/LDTyVvY

I tried to search in google many times but I found nothing.

While looking at the image I noticed that there is j26, j29, j30 the j26 seems a boot key same as a jumper on old s9 control board but I'm not sure if this is what we are looking for. I think you can try to contact bitmain to ask for the schematic diagram to check if "j26, j29, j30" is a boot key for flashing the control board with SD card.

Another one that I noticed are these parts tp2, tp4, and tp44 and tp45 this Test Point mostly use as a boot key to reprogram a cell phone(Most on JTAG you are right on guessing) I don't know if this one is what we need to activate the boot key to flash the board.

This is what I think if you are planning to flash with SD card using this Test Point it may lead to dead boot or board damage we need to make sure if this is the Test point for flashing.

Much better to don't attempt to try but if you can sacrifice to test find the ground of the control board and short the Testpoint to the ground one by one while the SD card inserted.

The final solution is to replace the control board as fanatic suggested lately.

amazon is outdated, the sellers there still have early 2018 on their calendar Grin

OP btw if you chose to buy the control board, i suggest you look for a broken/cheap T9 or R4 . those use the same control board as all S9 models, many people don't know that , so you could possibly find a dirt cheap r4 or t9 with a working control board.

you can also get it new on bitmain website for 60$ or on ebay for about 50$ but i still prefer the above suggestion.

While this is good advice I would like to point out that the T9+ controller is different.

Many people refer to the T9 and the T9+ as the same thing when in reality they were very different miners.

T9 control board will work, T9+ will not

Yes, i tried that j26 yet without success.
I bought another board, but i have this one stopped and id like to put it working.
Yeah, Bitmain is getting worst, now they dont even give ssh access to the machines and booting is not possible in S15 yet as i know.
You know something about SDcard boot in S15?

For 2019 firmware they disabled SSH access based on what I heard on other users even in the old unit model like s9.

As of now, Bitmain does not release SD card recovery program yet for s15 but I am sure they will release it as soon as more clients needs it. So you can check this page below for time to time.

---> All Control Board Program Recovery
