What a bunch of elitist dicks the mods are there.

A guy started a thread about finding out about mining for his college studies, and I replied to the thread. Now it seems that the thread has been deleted. He couldn't have posted it in beginners, because it would have been moved to mining for some dick head to delete. I thought this forum was about helping and educating people about Bitcoin and crypto. It's becoming a place for people to waive their manhoods around, and to massage each other's egos. Well there is all the jealous bitching as well.

Please can we return to Bitcoin Talk being an information and help forum. This is a really important time for crypto currencies and blockchain technology, and I'd like to see this forum remain a major part of it. Please can we distance it from the middens and thieves' kitchens that seem to be so popular here.

Why do you think was it deleted? As I personally didn't manage to see the thread. Was it sort of a bland/dull thread? Sort of like those "how to mine bitcoin for profits?" threads?

It was by a guy who asked about getting a cheap or free mining rig. My replies were about an early Butterfly Labs ASIC miner that I have been given. There were a couple of helpful replies by another member in the thread as well. I think it was deleted because the guy was a student, and didn't have a lot of money to invest in a few hundred of the latest ASICs.

We should be encouraging people like that, they are the future of crypto.

Oh. That's very unfortunate, especially if the original poster was actually genuinely curious/interested.

Why I think that the thread was deleted though, wasn't probably because of the original poster's occupation and financial situation, it was probably because of the OP asking about free mining rigs. Though I really think it shouldn't have been deleted, it might have fell under the no begging rule:

Well I've had enough of this suppression of information for beginners. I've added a forum to Easy Bitcoin Mining, and I'll try to generate my own info for beginners.

Personally will be delighted to stay by and learn. To be sincere most at times Newbies like us find things very difficult which is not encouraging for any average individual who intend learn the technology which others have learnt longtime ago. Satoshi .N primary aim must have been learn the technology as you grow and not when learned the Technology then deprive others from being learn. Recently i took out time to read through the forum and am amaze for a single individual to accomplished ideas of this type.

Let the pioneers lead us( Newbies)  to the promise land were we can stand to defend our course by so doing the industry will attract many more investors that's (institutional and individual).

Thanks @Jet Cash for your effort to see that "all Humans are equal" irrespective of their class(Ranks).

You can start teaching me now about MiNing Tongue (I'm dead serious about learning a thing about mining)
Just let have a nice chat maybe on Telgram or Discord.

Mate, I think this is just the first time that I saw you getting mad at the mods of bitcointalk Cheesy I thought mods are good enough facilitating every boards here on this forum, but as you said I certainly have doubts right now Huh

We should be encouraging people like that, they are the future of crypto.
Its really not fair to move a thread without proper reason. Obviously bitcointalk should be a field for every crypto seekers. Its the place from where anyone can gather relative knowledge about crypto world. If anyone given a post for learn or know about something about cryptocurrency than he should have rights to have it.

We should be softer with crypto beginners  because they are the future for whole crypto empire. If they discourage by us than its not going to bring anything positive for us. I can feel the the contemplation of Jet cash. He is not claiming here for that he commented there and the thread being removed but he is concern about that user.

I've seen more complaints about modation on the mining boards. I don't use it, but from what I've seen, they're very strict. Duplicate topics for instance get deleted. I think it would be much more Newbie-friendly to lock the topic with a message pointing at the right topic.

My replies were about an early Butterfly Labs ASIC miner that I have been given.
I tried to find back the topic, but I found this instead. Can you share the topic title or your post?

Thanks for looking into it Loyce, but I've moved on now. I've set up the forum, and I'm starting to consolidate the information that I manage to find about the ASIC miner I have been given.

I am going to experiment with mining from 3 different angles -

- Old ASIC hardware
- The use of old motherboards and graphics cards
- Searching through scrap hard drives.

None of those will be compatible with the interests of the mining elite here.

None of those will be compatible with the interests of the mining elite here.

They're also almost certainly a waste of effort, or money at least. If every thread like that stayed on the main mining sub-boards, the information that's actually contemporary/relevant could get drowned out. There's always been someone turning up asking questions they could find the answer to by searching.

That being said, if there are people that want to engage in that kind of thing anyway, maybe a "Mining Newbies" board would be a good idea, although I predict it would turn into a bit of a swamp fairly fast

We have to learn somewhere, and the acquisition of knowledge ( especially about crypto ) is not a wasted effort in my opinion. Without new members, those elite boards will die off as the existing members go bust, or move on to other projects.

My idea is to learn about mining for no, or negligible cost. Without an understanding of mining basics, then my crypto knowledge will be incomplete. I have no desire to become a miner, and I am aware that I will not make a profit from my efforts. However, I am lucky enough not to need the money, but I do need the knowledge. I would also like to share that knowledge with new(er) members who do not have the advantages that I have.

Hey Jet. Not going to lie I definitely knew this thread was coming.  First glad you had enough time with the thread to get the info you needed.

I was surprised that the thread was outright deleted, as opposed to just locked. Overall the thread had served it's purpose and would have made a good thread to reference in the future when similar threads come up. Had this thread just been locked the information within about cheap options would have been fairly current for this year anyways.

While i agree not every thread needs to be preserved this one did have information that was useful to a certain group, namely legitimate hobby miners.

Loyce- if it helps Jet gave me 2 merit for a post in that thread. I don't know anything about how often forum information is captured, but the thread may have only been live 12 hours. The title would have been along the lines of "free hardware"

Edit: Below is one of my responses to JetCash if it helps. I pulled it from my drafts

Quote
That's  understandable, I do recall this was always more of an informative curiosity for you.

Depending on the level of circuit diagrams or what you really want to know there may be some useful members here. I'll do some reading and fire you out a list of members here who may know or be able to discuss that with you further. In the mean time you may want to consider another attempt at creating a thread in Mining speculation, I only suggest it as you have returned to the board since the last time. Just state that this is to discuss the circuitry of miners themselves. Might actually be an interesting topic to read as I've seen members with a great deal of knowledge drop snipits here and there.

@Steamtyme.

Thanks for your post in that thread. Unfortunately, I'm having a senior moment, and I can't remember the important bits. This is why I decided to consolidate the information about all these old mining rigs and methods into one place. I'm finding a few more bits, but it is still a struggle.

Once I get the ASIC rig bit to a point where I can make a decision, I'll put together some stuff about urban mining. "Urban mining" is the collection of useful "rubbish" in city centres, and recycling it. It isn't just related to crypto, but the hunt for discarded Bitcoin on old hard drives has an appeal for me. Smiley

[EDIT]

Thanks Loyce - it seems it was about the power supply. I managed to find one VGA cable for it, but the miner needs 2. I had another rummage in the pile, and I found a Corsair TX750W psu, and that has 2 VGA connectors. I'll check to see if that is working, and use that if it is OK

Is there any reason that you didn't mention the name of the mod. I am under the impression that you already know them(him-her)?

Then mod can give an explanation.

you are a respected member, and people listen to you, that's my understanding.

and if all ego-boosting thing is right then why not taking action against such kind of behavior and rectify the wrongdoings.

Deleting a thread outright is a bit too harsh and it happens a lot on the mining/hardware boards. Moving or locking would be more appropriate in some of those cases. I've seen a few threads that might have been slightly off topic and they just disappeared. The problem is that I can't even provide examples because the threads have been deleted and I don't get a PM notification when that happens even if I had a post in the thread.

There should be a better way to handle this. Those boards rarely get actual genuine spammers that need deleting.

I don't know who deleted the thread, an I'm not sure that I really want to know. It might be somebody that I think I like. Smiley

Anyway, I think he might have done me a favour. I've started to get interested in playing with vintage mining rigs. Since I've started watching related videos, I've started to learn quite a bit. I think it will be  useful service to consolidate the info into one place as well. A lot of it is getting deleted.

Wow you work fast. Well done.

Jet the urban mining sounds great. I love the offshoots and different ways people can/do make use of the materials around them. I've met talked to a few people i know of that had tossed away a laptop that had btc on it. If you do get a mining board going on one of your projects i'll stop in to contribute what I can.

Although, balancing that very thin line of spam, and constantly asked questions is hard. I don't visit the mining section at all really so I'm just guessing here, but I'm assuming a lot of the mining information in search is somewhat outdated, and because we are in a field of constantly evolving technology then we have got to expect constant questions about difficulty, and the mining hardware suitable to the difficulty.  A newbies section might be a good idea as a child section of mining if these questions become a problem to those that are frequenting the section maybe with some special rules where the thread gets locked upon answers/inactivity.
