The problem is, users might be swayed by the ads instead of the discussion. Due to short attention spans, users mainly focus on whatever that appears first and those ads might even rank top.

There have been cases such sites (e.g. Bittrex) were placed above the legit ones on the search results pages, and many fell for them.
Solutions:
  • Use Duckduckgo
  • Use adblockers like Ublock origin, I personally like it... another one adblocker plus
  • Use antiphishing extensions metamask, netcraft, cryptonite etc

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

Trust me, duckduckgo has the exact search results as Google except that there are no stupid Google ads or tracking... You won't miss a thing.
Actually you will come to realise that Google sometime hides certain search results from users.

Good stuff, haven't heard of that before. Also just wanted to share another website for checking crypto scams: https://fried.com/crypto-scam-checker/

Do note that the website is updated manually and so is subject to errors too. As someone had mentioned earlier in the thread, your best defense is to think smart.

If you are looking to detect scams, you should know that most often, scammers have just opened a website with a free template a few days ago.
For a quick verification, this website will provide you with a lot of information (seniority, "degree of trust", that kind of thing...)
https://www.scamadviser.com

Thank you for the link.

Crypto scammers make many lives a misery whether they steal from investors or bounty participants.

I hope we all stand side-by-side to tackle and confront the scammers that have infected in this community forum.

I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection. You should be able to find at least some discussion on any legitimate project or service. You also get to read about people's unique experiences, which may also help you decide if you want to dip your toes in. Scams will have little to no discussion, and might even have people directly calling it out. You know how people do extensive research on some new phone or car before buying them? That's exactly the kind of thing investors need to do on their potential investments.

Websites that rate others' trustworthiness often use rigid metrics that can be gamed or manipulated. They could be useful for finding certain information, but should never be the be all and end all for deciding trustworthiness.

That all sounds good, but unfortunately, in theory.

Unfortunately, most people don't know that.
Many people don't know the patterns of fraudsters
He doesn't even know there's such a thing as a bounty.

He doesn't know how an artificial pyramid deceives them.
And google information is often scarce. And you have to believe in those created by crooks, multi accounts and naive helpers who are also cheated at the end (they work for free)

So these are the methods you can put yourself, you know, where...

Research are inspired by other experienced CSGO players from https://pro.eslgaming.com/  and  LOL ex-players and esports bettors from esporttalk.org , esportal and reddit.com and discord

Can I use this website for detecting newly launched ICO sites? Im looking for this kind of site who reviews different crypto websites because most people scammed from this newly built and fake websites use ICO to collect money and use fake profiles/names to introduce a fraud project.

Newly launched sites usually don't have any ratings yet.

However once people submit theirs, it'll eventually flag them (websites) as scams.

Generally speaking, don't look for such sites.
Assume that everything is fraudulent.
All the more reason to assume that websites that are created like mushrooms after the rain...

What are they made for? They want to make money

Why don't they give a 10/10 rating for the biggest shit if someone pays them? think logically and avoid this cryptic shit.

As many already mentioned, it would be great if only 1 website could be enough to check is something is scam, there would be far less scammed people. Google, open 20 tabs, different sources, use forum, ask around, basicaly spread your tentacles around and you will lower your chances to get scammed.

I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection. You should be able to find at least some discussion on any legitimate project or service. This is the easiest. But unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem at all
no really - you know about the fact that you're gonna see a completely different result than your sister? And your sister's completely different from your neighbour?

It's not like you'll find a google shop that's closer to you. It's not like google knows what you're looking for. He wants to know, but he's not gonna get up. Don't you think you could have found a lot more and had a lot more choice? Now you can, too, because everything is very deep. So I won't agree. I don't think it's a good tool. But maybe it's an idea for someone to do something to save others from it? Some poor warning won't do anything.

I've found that Google is the best tool for scam detection.

The problem is, users might be swayed by the ads instead of the discussion. Due to short attention spans, users mainly focus on whatever that appears first and those ads might even rank top.

yeah that it

Google is just a search engine. In general, all the tools (which do not exist) are only tools that a cheater will cheat...
Man will always find a way even now in 2020. Did you see that? Someone made a porn in google adds ad that Ai google automated systems didn't catch because they found a way ! Of course they've (google) already removed it from reddit because it's their culture of "censorship" but it's a different topica  AI , Machine and quantum computers and a porn ad found at your little baby phone with google uncle?

And you're gonna tell me how this website works? To be really effective it would have to be visible on the 1st place in the search engine and additionally be supported by a large community. Without it there is no chance. It's a waste of time.

That's Google in a nutshell. Meanwhile on YouTube, you swear once, video instantly demonetized. An ad with boobies, still approved! I can't really brain their logic.

Maybe the AI loves them too Cheesy

The sad truth is, unfortunately, there may be some close ones.

I'm running away from conspiracy theories. But the very fact of increasing censorship is terrible. And unfortunately, the real good is less and less important.

The tab on youtube - trends - promotes the greatest possible shit without any value changing the world for the better. All this is to stupefy society to the maximum. This is terrible. And there's no importance to the country from which you're looking at the homepage. Everywhere in the top 10 , 80% of movies are about assholes, boobs, tits and poor rap or some kind of drama...

My piece of advice is scammers are trying to be smart, we must beat them at it, be smarter. Use every resource available before you put in your money into these new websites.
One of the resources we have here is the scam accusations board but some people don't bother to check.

This is true when I used to join some bounties in my early years in this community, one of the places I visit when I'm researching some project is the scam accusation board. some of the projects I about to promote is listed there, with some proof of scams. therefor every time I want to join some bounty, I use the technique that our fellow scam buster used to prevent myself from promoting some fraud projects.
