This might be Mark Zuckerberg's answer on how the US government will stay away from him and the company for a while. Remember this guy was under a senate investigation because of privacy and data issues from his social media website, they raised concerns on how their users' data and personal information are going out from companies they haven't even shared it on so with this kind of feature it might eliminate the need of pursuing more evidence as it will provide more transparency within Facebook's system.

Facebook's entire business model is collecting data on billions of people, having complete control over it, and selling it on to advertisers, marketers, political firms, ISPs, governments, and any other third party willing to pay. There is no way they are going to use a public blockchain, even for something as simple as logging in. Zuckerberg will want complete control. Either that or Zuck will want everyone to link their real identities to their bitcoin wallets so he can build even more of a profile on you.

Forgive me for being cynical, but Facebook do not and have never had the users' best interests at heart.

They'll probably use a private blockchain, DPoS style with only 5 nodes.

This might be Mark Zuckerberg's answer on how the US government will stay away from him and the company for a while. It's possible but this is just a strategy. Just because you want to use a blockchain doesn't mean you can't get your users data, especially if you use private blockchain.

I am not sure that people that register in the Facebook will like this because they need to make a change in their profiles and many of them use Facebook aka social media to interact with the other.

But it could be a new big move from Facebook and I think Mark wants to be one of the pioneers in the blockchain technology used by social media. Facebook itself has a big source and employee to works on the blockchain technology and they will find a way to integrate Facebook with blockchain technology.

But once again, I don't think that not many people want to gives their real identity on the internet because once we give the real data, we are ready to see that data will be on the internet and every people can get access to see those data.

No need for forgiveness, Zuckerberg's not fooling anyone and you made the obvious point. Unless FB wants to change its entire business model, then there's no way it would want to starve itself of a working revenue stream. Why would they want to kill the golden goose?

Also, I'm pretty sure by now it's no longer a sole interest. FB's got so much dirt on so many people, both at home in the US and abroad, people willingly sharing information about themselves - I'm sure enforcement and intelligence also have vested interest in helping FB continue its path.

There's no altruism in any of this. The sooner we understand that, the better.

The thing is, this could be a good idea. Identity and access management and security is a huge market for blockchain technology, with many major companies such as IBM working on decentralized identity management. I have little doubt that the future of online identity management is via a blockchain of some description - it would massively cut down on hacks, leaks, stolen identities, you name it. I just have no faith whatsoever in Facebook to not try to pull off something shady.

Facebook still gets the users' data no matter what and it is now out of the question, what the US government wants to see is how Facebook is using the personal information on their website and the blockchain integration might be his answer and his silver bullet to the senate the next time he will be summoned to the court. If the new digital ledger will prove Facebook is clean and is not leaking any information from their users I think that the government will back off from them for a while.

That would be wise thing to do, they wouldn't have to answer it all but let the government examine by themselves after all blockchain has transparency and they can look it all up, is immutable. If facebook shows good faith at least they prove innocence to what is being allegedly thrown to them. But while they are at it, why not just also add crypto token, make this at least a big news not just to the government but to the crypto market.
