Will Washington roll it forward to August or September? Will they have to cut back on military spending to try to support the economy?

Another alternative would be to take control of their own finances by nationalising the US central bank.

You mean the Federal Reserve?

How's that going to work?

If the Federal Reserve is as powerful, and as corrupt, and as evil as its detractors make it out to be how would that possibly happen?

And if it's not corrupt and evil where's the consensus of what to replace it with?

I think JFK had it right with Executive Order 11110.  It's a shame he was murdered before it could see fruition and every president since has been unwilling to correct this travesty to the American people.

Jim Marrs, in his book Crossfire, presented the theory that Kennedy was trying to rein in the power of the Federal Reserve, and that forces opposed to such action might have played at least some part in the assassination.[16][17][18] Marrs alleges that the issuance of Executive Order 11110 was an effort by Kennedy to transfer power from the Federal Reserve to the United States Department of the Treasury by replacing Federal Reserve Notes with silver certificates.

The Treasury doesn't urgently need more debt, so this isn't a hard deadline. Congress will undoubtedly do another debt-ceiling suspension before any problems occur; there are no politically-possible solutions in sight, and unlike a government shutdown, nobody's willing to go anywhere near defaulting on the debt.

Well it looks as if they will have to suspend pension fund payments for a while, and tax revenues will be down, so they won't get as much from the fiscal year end. At the same time, it seems that Trump and the hawks want to increase spending on nuclear weapons. How mad is that?

and they think they can advise Venezuela on the way to run a country. Smiley

Apparently it costs over $1 billion a year to repair the damage to vehicles caused by the lack of repairs to highways. It is no wonder that they are arming postal workers and health care workers with automatic weapons.

You think Trump is a hawk? Really? He's been critical of foreign entanglements for decades - from Iraq to Afghanistan and more. He's not expanding in Syria, in fact most have been brought back home. He's doing far less "peacekeeping" than did Nobel Prize winner Obama. And, he's actually done a lot of good in the Korean Peninsular.

And, as side evidence, the neo-cons hate him. They're the core of the Republican Never Trump movement.

Parts ot the United States look like a 3rd world country.  Go to San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Seattle, you will see tons of homeless people shitting on the streets.  Endless needles all over the city, people living in tents.

That's true. But the reason is different. Here there is an ideological reason not to act. In NYC Mayor DeBlasio spent tens of millions on electronic signs that had free wifi and power. The end result is at night, in some areas, people bring up pillows, use them like couches, watch TV and act as if it's their own living room (and sometimes their own bedroom).  What does DeBlasio do? Nothing.

Now, you don't have to send in the police with batons and crack heads -- but this sort of behavior should not be accepted. Again. What's done? Nothing. There is a real ideological component to this problem that needs to be acknowledged.

I think every president preceding him noticed that if they wanted to be alive for more than a couple days after they issue the order, it's best of for them to just forget about it.

But back to the topic.

The US debt ceiling is never going to stop being pushed up, there is no real way for politicians to be able to get reelected on the basis of fixing the debt problem in this country. Yes, I do understand that some do, but there's no way that a majority is getting elected on this issue. People care a lot more about their safety (military), their welfare programs, their social security, healthcare, etc for this to be a major issue to them.

This is the type of issue that people feel like they can just kick the can on and hope the next generation does something drastic to fix the problem. I don't agree with this, but I'm someone who is realistic about solving these issues.

The can is going to be kicked down the road until the music stops. Then the new world begins, for better or worse. It won't be much longer now, the hour is late.
