Hey everyone,

a few months ago I came across breathing exercises and I totally love it.

Now I want to know, what's your favorite breathing exercise?
What's your setting - like, do you lay in bed/nature/chair?
How did it affect your life?
For how long are you doing it?

Cheers!

Can you explain what is this breathing exercise craze is all about?

I haven't heard anything about it though, what positive benefits it could bring to people? I think you need to share more details about it so that we can have a healthy discussions.

The only reason why you would look for this kind of exercises is if you want to come into a state of meditation and i think thats what the OP is talking about. Otherwise i dont see any reason why someone would even think about looking for breathing exercises.

Exactly. That's why I asked him/her about the positive benefits of this so called breathing exercises. Of course we always wanted to learn new things as a human, but we need to study first what it can bring to us.

Yoga is already there if we wanted to a state of calmness and has been practice for hundreds if not thousands of years. That's why I'm curious about what the OP is telling us.

Why should we do breathing exercises? Whereas we do not know what the purpose of the exercise is. It seems that you went on to clarify this breathing exercise specifically the purpose of the exercise so that we can discuss it properly without thinking of the broad meaning of this breathing exercise.

You can use it for various purposes, for example, if you're nervous before a speech or simply as a meditation.
It's about "rewiring" your brain or "hack" if you want.

are you doing swimming ? are you want hold your breath long time ?
Yes I swim but more for health reasons, 15 mins breathing exercises before workouts are incredible. There are dozens of guided exercises on youtube.

Like i've stated above + Check out the book called "Innercise". It's awesome.

Yeah your're right. Yogi's do it aswell. I'm just doing it to raise my conscious-awareness without any religious belief behind it.

It has alot of positive effects, oxygen in your body, calmness, promotes the release of endorphines, etc.
If you type in google "breathing exercise benefits, you'll find also:

Quote
natural painkiller. ...
    improves blood flow. ...
    Increases energy level. ...
    Improves posture. ...
    Reduces inflammation. ...
    It detoxifies the body. ...
    Stimulates lymphatic system. ...
    Improves digestion.

Exactly. And much more. Google "take 5 method" from the book innercise. it's incredibly effective for anxiety and a lot of other problems.

I do them wherever, in bed, in nature, and it has influenced my life especially in maintaining tranquility, I do it all the time, and above all, I apply another type of breathing when running, and another very different one when swimming, which are which are the right ones, making everything natural.

Even though I am extremely lazy to do such exercises, every time I start them, it gives me a loooot of energy. They say that oxygen is what we need, and it can cure all the diseases, maybe it's true

I was once advised to breathe not in the abdominal way, but in the chest. Initially, it is difficult, but after a while breathing is easier, and the air in the lungs is more filtered, I recommend trying it.

Just take a deep breath whenever you are in bad situation which will really help you to feel better and what to do next so there is no need to do separate kind of excersie for breathing. Cheesy

But I saw on some youtube videos doing meditation at the sun rise time will help to increase our concentration so do your excersie at the time more to be more effective.

Sub consciously, I have tried this many times before specially when I'm nervous and it seems it work. Specially when I used to work in a regular 9 -5 office day job. It's high pressured environment, clients are every where and you have to pleased them. If you are nervous and don't know how to react like I do before, I just take a walk and breathe and when I go back to my desk, my mind is clear and I can performed well under pressure.

I don't do that much breathing exercise now a days.

But when I'm travelling out of town, I love the smell of the nature, the rice fields, the forest, rocks near the river.

Same here. I'm interested in what techniques do you use during sports?

Even though I am extremely lazy to do such exercises, every time I start them, it gives me a loooot of energy. They say that oxygen is what we need, and it can cure all the diseases, maybe it's true

I had the same problem until i really needed it due to health reasons. The best way is to set a timer.
Currently, i have 3x alarms day but I feel comfortable now so i will change it to 5x/day now.

I was once advised to breathe not in the abdominal way, but in the chest. Initially, it is difficult, but after a while breathing is easier, and the air in the lungs is more filtered, I recommend trying it.
never heard of it, will try it. thank you for your input!

There a dozens of types of breathing but excercises are something different. Just look it up on youtube and give it a try for 10-15 mins.
I'm sure you will like it Smiley

I feel you on that one, that was my life for a few years. Try a routine like i've stated above. Morning and night ones are especially effective.

You totally should! The effects have such a positive influence on our lives.

I live near by the sea and nothing beats a 15 min morning-excercise at the beach. Smiley

also doing it in groups is also effective like with a friend, seminar or lifestyle groups.
hope that helps!

I have accidentally came up to an article by vice just recently and started doing the exercises in the morning and before sleep, sometimes. Was kinda surprised that it really works well and calms me down when needed, the technique itself is somewhat straightforward, you have to take 6 seconds to inhale and another 6 second to exhale, which makes for 5 breaths per minute. The article is called "This Breathing Exercise Can Calm You Down in a Few Minutes" if you want to look it up.

Have you tried to breathe underwater? It is very good, it relaxes and if you are exercising, swimming or whatever,
when doing the breaths you are directly bombarding your lungs with another type of necessary oxygenation,
which is to suck air through the nose and throw it gently under the water mouth.
