Hello,

A few months ago I wanted to sell 24 Litecoin on cryptopia during a phase of heavy server load
and everything was very buggy. I sold my Litecoin and got my bitcoin credit. A few seconds later I noticed, that my balance did still show as 24 Litecoin plus the bitcoin balance I just got. So I sold the 24 Litecoin again Smiley. My Litecoin balance now shows a negative balance of 24 Litecoin (which kinda makes sense).
I withdrawed all funds from cryptopia, and now Im not quite sure about what I should do.
Should I:

1. Deposit the 24 Litecoin back to cryptopia to make my balance 0
or
2. Keep all the Money and be happy that I got some nice Litcoin for free

Thanks you for your answers

PS: dont worry about my new account, I only registered to ask this question as I am really not sure about what to do.

Just ask from support and they will gladly take back their own money in my opinion. If I were in your shoes I will send it back to exchange because it is also a sin to take something that doesn't belong to you. This should be a small bug on their side and reporting this bug will prevent the possible losses for cryptopia.

Even if you want to do that you can't!
Cryptopia is now close due to some reason of hacking.
If they will open again you should ask for the help desk first before doing anything.

If that will be some other person, they will just create new account.

..congratulations that you gain your coin double as what you have plus additonal bitcoin for free..it is up to you if you will going to return it or just keep it in your wallet..

..but if i were you i will going to return it to cryptopia,,because it's hard for someone to lose the things that they have earn..speacially now that cryptopia was in a trouble for the reason that it is again attacked by the hackers..just remember that it is better to take advantage the success of the fruit of your labor than enjoying the things which you have not labored.

This just means that cryptopia is not really well secured from the beginning. How can they not check there own system if they have some bug on it. Thats why they got hack in a row.

About the litecoin i think you should give it back since they are currently is despair right now and it can become still a big help for them. Well its your choice to decide.

I personally would return the Litecoin or any cryptocurrency that was mistakenly added to my account, because if you take money accidentally given to you it can be a huge liability with banks. That said, given the recent hack I agree that Cryptopia is an insecure platform that traders and investors should generally avoid.

It is better to be returned and every action is sure to be a reply, to be honest for yourself would be better.
Cryptopia is less secure and should not use it or it is possible that the team has an update on this.

This is an unsafe trading platform with consecutive attacks from hackers, the Cryptopia team is too weak. I think if they don't improve their security soon, they will soon have to shut down because of hackers' attacks and distrust of customers.

Looks like you glitched your way into doubling your money. If it only was 24 bitcoins and not LTC you would have made a great deal.

You can do 2 things:

1) Inform cryptopia that their services aren't safe and give back the money

2) Keep the money, and never use the account that's glitched with a negative balance again.

They are offline anyway. Rumors are they will come back soon. Most exchanges are a trainwreck, you cannot trust them with your real info or putting any real money there. Just do your trades and get out.

You've got an golden egg worth 24 Litecoin + Bitcoin. As an user stated if its 24 Bitcoin + Litecoin you've got the best deal out of trading through cryptopia. From my understanding it is upto you whether you need to contact them through some sources and return it or just can make use of it. Chances for cryptopia getting into exchange service takes time, sometimes they drop it in the mean and come up with new exchanges.

The double spend might have been made possible, because your transaction was done off-chain on their internal database. You cannot do this "on-chain" because you need to have control over 51% of the hash power of that specific coin. The site is closed now, so you will not be able to rectify the problem. <Did you manage to withdraw the second amount or is this just the balance that are shown in your wallet?>

It just shows you why centralized services like this, is never a good idea.  Tongue

Cryptopia site is dead right now because of the security breach i guess you can keep all the money now and can send back the coins to cryptopia or not, it's depends on you though. Do whatever you want.

I bought an item for $9.53, and I gave them a $20 bill. They accidently gave me a $100 bill in change rather than a $10 bill. What should I do? Should I be an honest person that wants the world to be a better place, or should I be a loser that takes advantage of other people whenever I can?

well, what you are asking really depends on your own honesty! if you are an honest person and don't want to own stolen money then you would return the money that doesn't belong to you to the real owners and be done with it, but if you are not then just keep it and be happy about the luck that smiled upon you Wink

It was an unpleasant situation and a clear indication of how things went bad in Cryptopia. Exchange has been closed for days, and the status of those with funds inside is completely unclear. The right to return the funds, but of course you decide...

Well, it's not just about 24 Litecoins but the entire trust of Cryptopia that took them much time to build. I would recommend you to inform them about it as soon as possible so that anyone won't be able to misuse this bug. They might reward you with something but you shouldn't expect it.

That's what happened with me a few years ago and I was rewarded with some amount in Bitcoin when I informed that particular exchange about the bug and they fixed it. Every time it's not about money but the goodwill too.

Cryptopia is currently down down due to the security breach they identified in the month of Jan but they are expected to come back live starting from tomorrow. If you are willing to make up their losses, please contact support first before depositing any Litecoin into your account. Your transaction value is somewhere close to $1,100 so it's not a very amount of sum for an exchange, but if you want to stay true to yourself, I will suggest you to refund that amount to them. That's the most ethical treatment that I can see from this situation!

You got a free money with because of the bug, in legal scenario, you are not at fault at that and you can keep that if you like.
Actually that depends on you, either you return it or not, but if you still continue to use cryptopia, you account will deducted once a deposit will come.
