Hi Guys

If a user finding sending smerits to posts in different languages, what does this mean? how to investigate it? and how/where to report it?

I've sent Merit to Russian posts. As long as the post is worth it, there's nothing wrong with it.

If you understand the language, then it's logic. I don't expect you meriting posts you don't understand, Right?
Is this possible? a user posting only in Italian and English gave smerits to russian, arabic, polish languages.

I didn't post the profile name/link because i don't know if it's allowed to mention a profile detail in a reputation thread without valid proofs. This is why am making this thread.

I think, if there are no proven links between accounts of the merit sender and receiver, then it doesn't matter in what language were the posts which got merit.

If a user finding sending smerits to posts in different languages, what does this mean?

This does mean he is using a Google Translator and is doing good job meriting the worthy posts OR just abusing merits by awarding them to alts. You can detect a merit abusers by checking the quality of the post he merited. If the posts he merits are not upto the mark of merit deserving in some sense than it could be pointed as a merit abuse. But if a person is trying to prompt genuine discussion by awarding merits to quality content in different language sub-boards we rather need to encourage it.

how to investigate it?

Most probably my checking the quality of the merited posts and previous merit connections of the account.

how/where to report it?

You could report it here itself by adding the profile link of the users and the merit transactions which you think are suspicions to the OP.

He might be a polyglot. But of course, we can't really make sure about it. As others mentioned, they might use Google Translate to read a post in a different language. But it's interesting, to say the least, that somebody is interested to read a post across different boards. Maybe post the profile here so we can help with the investigation.

I don't think it's wrong sent merit to local board even you are not native with them. For example once I visit local board, my browser automatically translate in English. And if that time I notice any merit worth post then obviously I can send merit. Or who know may be that guy use Google translate.

But yes, you might investigate that they are connected or not somehow. Just sent merit each other doesn't prove they are connected. If you have solid evidence about connected account then you could open thread about it. Otherwise just sent merit on different languages will not consider merit abuse in my opinions.

Some people can speak more than two languages but they do not post in the local boards of those languages.
I know a friend who can speak 5 languages, although this makes no difference except by showing the connection between those accounts.
Generally, some people like to send merits to many boards.

use google translator to see if the posts are somehow worthy of merit, in most cases of merit abuse those posts are complete trash.

Even if you don't understand that language, it's not that difficult to spot Merit worthy posts and one liner shitposts. Maybe Google Translate is far from being perfect, but it really helps in such cases. I think you need to investigate these Merited posts with help of Google Translate. If you see short generic shitposts merited - probably it's merit abuse. And if these posts that you found is lengthy, interesting, helpful and etc - it's nothing wrong that someone merited it
