I would advise you a standalone wallet that will be located on your computer. It is much safer than keeping your cryptocurrency on the wallet which is online. But if you have volumes of not big than you not be satisfied with MEta Mask or MEW?

I go for Ledger Nano S. It has a strong security but for me no system is safe. Be careful on buying hardware wallet because it may lose all your coins.

I am using both Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets, both are good for storing ETH. However the two hardware wallet support different coins, you may want to check out the list of coins supported and get the one more suitable for your needs.

What hardware wallet do you recommend to get for storing ETH long term?
For now, I personally trust and use Exodus wallet and ever since their introduction, they have been highly effective and I don’t think they have encountered any form of challenges or negative review on them. Their interface is very brilliant and one great feature f exodus is that you can store your private key on any machine of your choice and not on server and you can exchange your coins to ether or ether coins within the wallet provided they are listed on it.

I own and use Ledger Nano, but there are not currently more options. There is only Trezor as a competitor and maybe new wallet Coolwallet, that is pretty diffrent than these two others. It is more portable.

What hardware wallet do you recommend to get for storing ETH long term?
There are many hardware wallet you can use in storing your ETH, you can check for some that has already been listed in the forum by using the search box to check for already created topic as this, though the once I can recommend for you is TREZOR, Ledger Nano S.

I can recommend these two to anyone not because I think they are the best but because I believe they have been for a long while and they are very much trusted to use than trying to make use of newer released hardware wallet, though it's your choice to make.

Could you please provide only one confirmed case of a Ledger Wallet being hacked?
I doubt it.

@OP
If you don't trust the Ledger wallet I'd just go for the Trezor otherwise feel free to get yourself a Ledger Nano S or if you need Bluetooth you could also check out the Ledger Nano X (also got more storage but is double the price of the Nano S).

You can check google for finding hacked nano ledgers that sold by unauthorized resellers. These guys change the software inside the hardware wallets and they put malicious software that sends private keys to a special server. I have heard such news on Twitter.

I have been using offline hardware wallet for sometime now but I think there are other good hardware wallets like trezor and nano ledger. These are also great wallets. MyEtherWallet is no exemption.

Ledger nano is the best. I have been using it for about two years now and I grade it high for its high security, ease of use. I have introduced a lot of friends to it as well and they are pleased

It's true. It's the reason why I think we should buy Ledger from official sellers or buy if directly from website of Ledger only although we will have to pay a little bit for shipping but it's much safer than buying it from a reseller.

The best one is Trezor and hardware wallet by blockchain.info. Both hardware wallets are useful for storing the ETH and feeling secure about your stored coins.

There are many hardware wallet for storing ethereum. Some of these hardware wallets are ledger, trezor, myetherwallet and offline hardware wallet but I prefer to use ledger because its the best. I have been using this wallet for a year now and its the best I must say.

Paper wallets are the safest alternative to hardware wallet in my opinion. No need to waste your time and money for buying new hardware wallet if you don't have huge amounts of cryptocurrencies.  Writing the private keys to the paper wallet is enough to protect your balance.

Paper wallet's safety is (a bit) under Hardware Wallet's. And paper wallet is good only for accumulating and long term holding.
The safer than paper wallet option is air-gapped cold storage.

Edit: don't get me wrong, I like the paper wallets very much, they are safe (if you do the correct steps) and cheap. But let's tell people the correct info, as much as possible.

There is not much hardware wallets to choose from. I know only about Ledger Nano and Trezor. Both supports Ethereum and all ERC-20 tokens.
But you do not have to spend money for hardware wallet, MyEtherWallet released the app which could replace hardware wallet  Cheesy.

My recommendation will be Ledger or Trezor hardware wallet, you can get one for less than $100 if you go for the basic model (which is good enough). However, buy from the official website because there are cases of hardware wallet from Ebay or other resellers being comprised.

Ethereum is one of the potential coins in the crypto market. Currently, the 3rd largest cryptocurrency in the market capitalization. Even though the crypto market has seen a downside towards the ending of 2018, Ethereum is going to take an upward surge in the coming year.

Before investing in ETH, one should have a knowledge of top Ethereum wallets. The best ethereum wallets are Trezor, Ledger Nano S, KeepKey, Guarda, MyEtherWallet and many more wallets. There are 12 updated best ethereum wallets. You can compare and choose the best wallets you want from here .As it is the second most popular cryptocurrency, more people are investing in ETH and the increasing zest to invest necessitates the knowledge of the top Ethereum wallets.

What hardware wallet do you recommend to get for storing ETH long term?

Why do you choose to using hardwallet ? Hard wallet is not free and you have to buy it.
I think it will be either Trezor or Ledger s Nano. It will be more safe if you using hard wallet than using web wallet.
But it will be easier if you just using Metamask and save your private key in somewhere safe place.

I've been in the cryptos for a time and according to my experience most of the users who wants to use hardware wallet to store their ETH is using  Nano Ledger and Trezor but for some people are having a hard time buying this product since it's a little expensive (but if you really want to secure your funds then you should invest to this kind of devices) and there are some alternatives for this hardware wallets and this is a paper wallet where in your private keys are written in a piece of paper but the disadvantages of this is when the paper wallet was lost or damaged you won't have any access to your wallet again.
