In the USA, one can now purchase Domino’s Pizza using BTC over lightning network, for fees that are under 1 cent of a dollar (see
https://twitter.com/fold_app?lang=en). It’s not a direct purchase at Domino’s Pizza, but rather an indirect one, whereby you place the order through Fold’s app. The app also allegedly allows you to pay for goods at Starbucks and Whole Foods amongst others.
The new is not yet as exciting as it seems, since lightning network is not yet consolidates, Fold has a reduced customer base so far, the user does not interface directly with the end establishment, and the payment is finally done in FIAT to them, but it’s an interesting start, and show that there is no need for a specific food sectorial token, but rather a deployment of universal speedy and low cost crypto payment technologies as a support for sales ops.
