The Winklevoss Twins had sued Bitcoin entrepreneur Charlie Shrem for defrauding them of at least 5,000 Bitcoin worth of $31 million at the time of filing suit. Lawyer Tyler Meade misled them into making “legal missteps” that lead them to lose more money including having to reimburse Shrem’s legal fees.

Ouch, it's really sad that the Twins are likely to lose a court case against Shrem because of a bad lawyer. They've been advocates on Bitcoin for a long time. I don't see why they case so much about 31 million dollars in Bitcoin, though, since they're millionaires anyway, but if their lawyer gave them bad advice on purpose, I think he should have been fined for a lot more than $15k. As I understand, however, it's unclear whether it was due to ignorance or not, so he got away with a minor fine (he probably got the hell lot of money, being a lawyer of billionaires).

Well it was quite unfortunate for the Winklevoss twins to be facing such an obstacle in their pursuit of justice for what is theirs. This is just another scenario of justice delayed due to incompetent people running the show, or more specifically, an incompetent lawyer. Instead of winning the case and getting what's right for them, they have to pay the opposing party their lawyer fees and possibly lose the case all in all. They have been advocating bitcoin for far too long now, and it's just sad to hear them being screwed over by someone who should be helping them.

I don't see why they case so much about 31 million dollars in Bitcoin, though, since they're millionaires anyway

Not even the wealthiest legacy elite will let an opportunity pass to potential gain dozens of millions in an asset.

In the end, assuming that the WV twins still hold their 100,000BTC, which I doubt because I'm strongly of believe that they did liquidate a chunk of it during the peak, but in case they haven't sold anything, their current stack is worth around $400 million. Current value of 5000BTC is $20 million, which means 5% of their current stack.

I'm certain that their Gemini exchange hasn't even made $5 million in profit last year. Do the math.

I assumed the case was getting thrown out as frivolous because they had to pay Shrem's legal fees, but I guess not. This is related to their lawyer obstructing the last hearing. These were punitive actions against the Winklevoss twins and their lawyer -- apparently they don't say anything about the facts of the case. The trial is still set for June.

Ouch, it's really sad that the Twins are likely to lose a court case against Shrem because of a bad lawyer. They've been advocates on Bitcoin for a long time.

Shrem has been evangelizing Bitcoin for many years as well.

winkle have over 200k coins = over $700,000,000

even if they day traded for one day and made 0.01% profit
they would make $70k

why are they wasting more time for just $15k

they're trying to get 5k bitcoins or $31 million from charlie shrem---or at least take him for everything he's worth. the $15k is just a fine the winklevoss lawyer has to pay for being a total asshole in court. these repeated rulings in shrem's favor don't really bode too well for the winklevoss' chances of winning though.
