What you described is not how airdrop works. Moreover, users do get tokens for their invited friends' activities already

Openness and informational content in any project is a positive thing, so I prefer to consider projects for participation in them that are most open and sociable with the community.

If the project conducts IEO, then this does not mean that the price of tokens of this project will grow. Now many projects are running IEO and few have been successful and the price of the coin has gone up well. It all depends on the specific project and its team.
