The fate of the former CEO of Mt. Gox; Mark Karpeles will be made known by Friday after the prosecutors have provided claims against him. Mark Karpeles was the CEO of the now-defunct Bitcoin cryptocurrency exchange; Mt. Gox.

His verdict will be handed down to him by a court in Tokyo based on charges laid against him. He has been accused of faking computerized data and laundering millions of dollars.

The prosecutors on the case have called for a sentence of ten years for the thirty-three years old French man. However, he denied the charges against him.

About time to actually put Karpeles on where he should be and learn a very valuable lesson after all his exploits thinking that he could get out of the mess he put people on. I would be damned if the decision of the jury is not guilty, as he clearly broke a lot of laws and regulations upon the supposed hack of Mt. Gox. 10 years isn't enough for a sentence, knowing that he could also get paroled in his stay inside the prison. I'd say 15-20 years is good, just and fair for all as he took a lot of people's fortunes and money along the way.

He should definitely answer for what he did.

Money laundering is a crime everywhere and with everything, not only with fiat currency. Also what he did wasn't a small thing, millions stolen.

Other people steal a lot more than that is truth, but should they be left alone? I don't think so.

10 years = 5 for good behaviour
because he has been in detention centres in the last 5 years... im guessing he will be given a sentence of 'time served'

But making him sit in the prison will not return the funds to people, will it? The aim of incarceration is for a person to realize guilt and become a better person that would not do that again. I think some years in prison + the amount of money in fines that will go to compensate losses to users would be nice. It's still better than the cases were scammers are not punished at all. A couple of years ago I had 1 ethereum on ether-wallet.net (or something like that) that was a pretty popular website back then. The owner ended up scamming everyone. Some people got partial reimbursement, because the owner said it was a hack, not a scam. I got my 20% or something compensation, but that person (even though the real ID was known, and many people, including me, filed accusations to the US authorities) was never charged as far as I know.

But is not the justice that we wanted to see. It's kinda joke to be honest, Mark has really did a lot of damage, just look at how massively the money involved in this heist. But I guess, Japanese court really didn't find anything specially about the embezzlement case against him, so we will be scot free, unfortunately. So for me personally, justice is not served in this case.

But is not the justice that we wanted to see. It's kinda joke to be honest, Mark has really did a lot of damage, just look at how massively the money involved in this heist.

this kind of damage was inevitable because people were using an exchange as a bitcoin wallet. mark didn't steal the coins. his exchange got hacked. on a long enough timeline, every exchange will get hacked. people who store coins on any exchange are taking a huge risk. the largest share of blame should be born by gox's customers for storing their coins with a third party. it defeats the entire purpose of bitcoin.

people are still doing this today---using coinbase, binance, bitmex, bitfinex, and others as wallets. this is really horrible behavior. with crypto, you have the option to secure your own money. if you choose not to, that's your own fault.
