HODOR or Hold Your Keys Not your Keys = Not your Crypto. The imaginable horrifying aftermath of the beloved and sweet HODOR holding the door can actually be compared to the emptiness felt by those who have lost cryptocurrencies worth millions from fraudulent exit schemes or hacks at centralized exchanges.
The most recent hacking at Binance has ignited a not-so-long but profound and open debate about safeguarding your cryptoassets; wait, did I just say crypto, as in cryptography? Wasn’t the whole point of the Bitcoin white paper to create a peer-to-peer electronic cash system that would use cryptography instead of trusting a middle man, like banks?
It seems quite evident by now that not only centralized exchanges are quite vulnerable (as opposed to decentralized ones), but also they have been behaving as the very same old banks we have been trying to avoid in the first place. For instance:
* They have the seeds or cryptographic keys of your deposits.
* They provide a terrible service for membership registration (I have actually supplied Binance at least 4 times a high-quality passport picture + selfie + a recent utility bill and my KYC request was never approved, so I gave up)
* There are hundreds if not thousands of impostors claiming to be representative of top 20 centralized exchanges, emailing from the official domain address, offering an array of hard-to-detect-traps. (twice I have emailed a centralized exchange to verify the identity one of their “agents” and they started fighting and pointing fingers at each other via email)
* They will love to list your crypto-asset for a minimum fee of 2 BTC up to 13 BTC; plus they will be delighted to do an IEO for another 2 BTC plus a success rate fee, plus you will not be able to withdraw your assets for several months.
Decentralized exchanges (DEX) are gradually starting to playing a big role in the ecosystem, specially since they provide a marketplace where listing fees are reasonable and you always, always hold your keys. Moreover, Initial DEX offerings (IDO) are on the horizon and will bring sobriety to the hot-headed banker-minded fake-volume top-20 exchanges.

I don't join the bounties of Film Business Buster, but I suggested the team to create a topic specifically used for bounty stuffs. Posting give-away in Announcements (Atlcoins) is not allowed, it violates forum rules, so you should edit all current posts on give-aways in the ANN topic, and officially move them all into the child board for this: Bounties (Altcoins). The rates look high during bad period for bounty hunters, hence when you posted in right child board for bounties, your project will catch attention of bounty hunters and massive applications will come, then you can choose best quality users to join and promote it. |

 A FORK TO THE HISTORY OF BANKINGThe logic behind the current banking system has remained pretty much the same since the mid 14th century when the early financing institutions, established at the Renaissance-leading city-states such as Florence, Venice and Genoa, were catapulted throughout the rest of Europe thanks to the rising of the new Holy Roman Empire.
In essence, a few powerful families involved in sea-trading activities, offered interests and issued notes for protecting and holding gold and other assets of the less powerful, or less resourceful, such as merchants, craftsmen, farmers, livestock farmers, organized looters, sorry, I meant, world explorers, adventurers and raiders. Oops, sorry again.
The commercial activity of safeguarding assets for others relied exclusively on the “physical” ability to store and protect value; such leverage was then used by these few powerful families to invest such “protected assets” on additional mercantile activities favoring their interests, and it has pretty much remained the same for seven centuries.
It is about time, thanks of course to the industrial revolution, but more importantly, to the digital revolution which is now reaching its seventieth birthday, that our luck, and I mean the luck for the rest of us who do not belong to the few powerful families, is finally changing: the middlemen´s ability to store and protect value is not longer exclusive.
Investors from all latitudes and of all types can now screen and select by themselves which men and women they can trust their funds with, to materialize projects closer to their personal interests, and of course, to get a much more satisfying reward beyond the 1%–2% relative annual yields for their saving deposits.
