LOL, who is this "respected government in the west", and as far as I know,

Illegal Activity No Longer Dominant Use of Bitcoin: DEA Agent

Investors and Not Criminals dominate Bitcoin Transactions, Says Federal Agent

The article also mentioned something about Maduro's Petro to circumvent economic sanctions but it's pretty obvious by now that it's not working because of pressures from other countries for him to step down is gaining traction. I think this article is rubbish, sorry, but I have to say that.

I can't wait to see this, someone coming with threats against bitcoin and also doing it in front of a court. I am curious who's that misterios west government who calls itself '' high profile''. In my opinion this is all just some news spread for attention and nothing of what they say is going to happen in the next 12 months. Anyway, a judge cannot do anything against bitcoin since it is impossible to stop people using bitcoin.

In my own humble opinion, I think Bitcoin is already beyond that phase judging on the many interviews and comments by people who are in the high offices. People in the government of the West have already accepted of the existence of Bitcoin and in fact many of them are cooperating in making sure that the cryptocurrency marketplace can be in compliance with the laws of the land so we can also protect the interest of the investing public from the hands and eyes of the scammers and hackers just waiting to give anyone a black eye. But of course, we should not be expecting a walk-in-the-park kind of treatment here as there will always be challenges along the way.

There are many 'high profile government in the West' but most seem to accept--if not acquiesce--the concept of crypto ruling within their countries. Also, what about NoKor owning some bitcoins? For all we know, they are also owning billions of dollars in USD and other currencies on their precious HK and offshore accounts, but why is the ban, or 'criminalization' of owning USD isn't being pushed when in fact, it contributed a whole lot more in terrorism and dirty money in general? Sorry, but the article lacked fair points to strengthen the claim.

Already governments do the similar kind of indication. This is the only way by which governments can say bitcoin is bad. Earlier quite often similar news rolls out, more people react instantly and the market gets affected as it is completely speculative. Now people have gained good knowledge regarding the same and such kind of news doesn't make any impact on the market. I look the news same as one among that.

Oof, This reminds of predictions from ppl who claim they have time traveled in a way that the predictions are loosely specific (like in this case, the where is pinpointed but not the who), nothing strong enough backs their statements and lastly, that attention seems to be the motive.

Welp. Clickbait title as expected. It's just a prediction by Nic Carter(whoever this guy is). Move along people.

P.S. Not saying that it's impossible though, as I can definitely see it possibly happening. But then again, no one knows.

Oh lol, I thought that there is something like an interview with some secret governmental worker that will show us an insight about an upcoming drug-related laws but nope, here we just a "prediction" of one crypto-related project. Did he just throw the dice to make such prediction? Especially within only the next 12 months.

Yeah, sounds rather unlikely to me as well. The prediction seems obsolete. Bitcoin used to be famous for being present on the Darknet and used for illegal stuff. It was like 5 years ago. Many people vouched for Bitcoin since then, many solid companies decided to accept it or at least try to make their own currencies. Blockchain is widely recognized, and cryptocurrencies are more or less legal in the Western world. If they wanted to ban, they should've done it a long time ago, before it became a multi-billion and more worth market with dozens of millions of active members.

I was about to think which western country would criminalize bitcoin and its user but after seeing this "prediction" it's just another FUD being spread.

I don't think that there will be a country that will criminalize bitcoin. The era of Silkroad was long gone from the darknet.

I agree 100%. The ugly days of Bitcoin(FBI controversies etc) have passed long back and governments around the world have openly admitted to being impressed by the blockchain technology though only some openly support the cryptocurrency market while the rest try to regulate it.

These stupid articles can never bring down the king of the crypto world which organically grows in value with each passing day.

The United States could do this. "Think of the children!" Underage purchases, kiddie videos (don't mean the disney kind) drug purchases etc. Just because they are being done in Monero or other currencies and cash is still the primary medium wouldn't matter. I don't think Sadaam actually bought yellowcake Uranium from Africa, but that didn't stop a US invasion. No poker players believed the US would shut them out, but they did exactly that as an add on on an unrelated bill. Now sportsbetting is legal, but online poker is still illegal in most states due to a middle of the night add on in 2007.

Nah, they can say that but the illegal thing still on there and every day, the crime is happening and comes to many people in the USA.
Let's wait for what will happen in the next 12 month as the article said because of that still a prediction which we don't know it will happen or not.
Like the other, I am curious about who is the High Profile Government In The West because there are many governments from the west and we cannot say they are involved with that  Wink
