What's the essence of reporting topic to be moved if they can be moved back.

Some weeks back, @Jet_cash and few other users complained of their topic been moved to other board without considering the content of their post and its benefits to the users on the board it was initially posted in. I decided to carryout a test to see if some moderators based their judgement on comments accompanying those report to make their decision.

Actually my reason for this thread isn't because of what I just wrote above (but since I was carrying out a test involving reported posts I decided to include the test above). Here's the reason for this thread, few days ago I notice a thread I reported appear back on the board I reported the thread from then I suspected maybe OP moved the topic back after it got moved by Mod. I then decide to test this out by reporting my thread tilted [Infographic]: Guide on possible reasons to leave a -ve/+ve trust feedbacks.

Now this is where the first test above comes into play, in the comment section I made mod understand the topic belongs to the reputation board since it has to do with trust system and the topic got moved to reputation board.
  

Don't know if mod reviewed the post or based his judgement on my comment but I'm thinking he did the second one because to me from the content of that topic, it fits more in the beginner and help board. In order to complete my test I tried moving the thread back to the beginner and help board and it got moved successfully.

So I asked if users can simply move their posts back after been moved by moderators why do we waste our time reporting those post to be moved. Shouldn't there be something like a board lock effect for those threads moved by moderators (i.e that particular thread can't be moved by the average users except another moderator).

Sorry for the inconveniences caused to moderators involved in this test, you guys are trying but I suggest you investigate more into reported thread before moving them. Some threads can fit into the category of two separate boards. The one that benefits the users more should be considered appropriate.

I was just answering a thread that said his topic has been moved to Scam accusation board where in fact it was posted on Gambling discussion board. The fact that he can move it back again when he needed is a hassle for a moderator and if that was the case I guess moving topics will just be in vain.

I suggest the same that if it has been moved by a moderator then the OP of that topic shouldn't have the right/authority to move it again the next time onto another board. Unless he has complains that it should be on the right board where it should be even it has been moved by a moderator.

I would imagine it would be fairly uncommon for a user to move their thread back after a mod had moved it - most people aren't posting in the wrong section maliciously. I would guess that most topics in the incorrect board are either there because the user made a mistake/misjudgement, or they are a newbie and just post in the first board they come across. Having said that, it would be a good idea to stop users moving threads back against moderators' decisions.

If a user is repeatedly moving a thread to the wrong section after it has been reported and moved two or three times, I would simply mention that in your report. In all likelihood a mod would then lock or delete the thread.

If thread can fit in multiple boards then I think it should be left in the discretion of the thread starter where the OP want to keep the thread.
So it look perfectly valid if OP can move the thread back to the desired board but by reading your example it simply mean that any one of the moderator agreed and acted upon it. Even the topic is moved but still it does not mean that every moderator agreed.

I think it would be beneficial for all users if a Mod would tell us would it be against the rules if an OP moves his thread back to the board he initially posted it in after it was moved elsewhere by a Mod? How would the Mods deal with that?

I agree with o_e_l_e_o. Most users who have their threads removed aren't putting it back to whence it came. They simply just let it sit in there and hope that people would notice their thread/topic and start a discussion. Even spammers of wrong topics/links etc. aren't even bothering moving their topics on where they first posted it even if some of them have malicious content. Perhaps the forum systems could recognize that a topic has already been moved by a mod, and can therefore be not moved back by the OP as to prevent further push and pull issue between the members and the mod team. Besides, if the OP thinks that they have made a mistake, there's an option to lock a thread and create a new one on the appropriate board.

One thing should be modified IMO and I also agree with OP proposal that if moderators moved a topic to another section but poster again move it then moderation's means nothing here. After moving anyone's topic to another section by a moderator there should be rules like poster can't move this topic anymore. I think that will be complete moderation otherwise its got no value.

Yeah its true that users post their topic on wrong section because of lack of knowledge but if they can able to move further after moderation then they will not take the moderators activity seriously.

I reported several topics from Bitcoin Discussion to be moved to another part of the forum but none of them were moved back by the OP after...
(The reason is simple, most of them were just simply deleted by mods, because those topics were just meaningless or low quality ones....)
But as soon as I would notice that a topic (I have reported and has been moved to the proper board by a mod) has been moved back to Bitcoin Discussion by the OP, I would just report it again with a note to the Mod that the topic should be locked instead of moving it again...

If you are moving a topic to a place where it should be, you are breaking the rules. If you move a topic to a sub after a mod moves it to a different sub, you are essentially breaking the rules after you have been told not to. If you continuously move a thread to an incorrect sub, the thread will likely eventually get locked.

If a thread was moved by the OP after a mod moved it, you can indicate this in the report comment.

The main purpose of creating topics is for discussion. If you want to make productive discussions, putting the topic in the right section will help you get more responses.
Most of the people who move topics to the wrong boards' are those who are looking for advertisements, marketing or deceiving others. Report them.

BTW: There must be restrictions on some boards, such as moving topics to exceed the 24-hour restrictions to delete the replies. ex: Marketplace.

I have tested it. I can't really remember now, before somedays moderators move my thread from reputation to Meta. But in my opinions that wasn't serious subject to discuss on meta. So I moved again on Reputation. Few case we can move, because I was thought reputation is right board.

However reporting for move thread is good practice. If someone post on wrong section then you might report. Never mind if they back it again. I don't think someone will back again on same board. May 2% topic would be back like I was moved.

It would be better option if any thread moved by moderators then OP should not allow to moved again within 72 hours. After 72 hours may be OP will forgot about his thread
