For many decades, web users have been wanting to have full access to their own data, saying that if a certain company wants their data, the firm has to purchase it. And this can be possible with the help of blockchain. When companies want to advertise based on people’s data, the firms in question have to pay the web users in order to show the adverts. Giant companies like Alphabet and Facebook are working day and night to make this dream come true. They might either choose to do this by themselves or hire firms to do it on their behalf. Of recent, Facebook revealed that it is planning to start on this initiative with the help of blockchain.

The only thing or line i recognized on the article is this one:

"I believe the internet will have a native currency and I don’t know if it’s bitcoin,” Dorsey told show host and comedian Joe Rogan. “I think it will be because all the tests it has been through and the principles behind it [and] how it was created. “It was something that was born on the web, that was developed on the web, that was tested there. It is of the web.”

With or without blockchain, I think paying users for their data is possible. The questions would be efficiency and effectivity. Facebook and other giants company who 'stole' user data can actually make a database and feature to pay users and then integrate it with fiat withdrawal systems. In its simplest sense, Facebook or any other company only needs a database to track how much payment for each users and a payment providers / banks connections where user can 'exchange' points or digital money to real fiat money. As simple as that.

Governments tend to centralize, the idea of decentralization, especially on the Internet may not appear to be something favored by these governments.
Also, Google's powerful reason is that it collects a lot of data and then you archive it to get useful information and targeted ads.
The adoption of decentralized technology may take place but the government will always find a way to collect personal information. "The only difference is that you will sell them this data or be subject to a law that teaches you that they have used it."

People will not want their personal data on the blockchain but they can make money by other means. Mining is not a good option anymore, but staking is easy to do and doesn't require much

Brave browser is already doing it.

I agree that being paid for watching ads is the future of Internet browsing. Some sites chose not to show full content if you have adblock enabled but it's a bad idea because some people will still choose to leave the site and look for information somewhere else. There are better ways.

Facebook gonna pay their users for their data to advertise products and services? it's very unlikely IMO. A service that you use for free and you enjoy using it with many features, no doubt that you're the product and they aren't going to pay you.

I use to understand this through a video on FB or youtube, can't remember correctly. But if facebook is developing that way through blockchain then it's a very nice incentive for most of the users.

I think that's quite possible though. They might pay you but your data will be collected, which is much more valuable than the money they spend to make people accept the terms & conditions.

Facebook is too strong, while most people are too lazy or to ignorance to protect their own data. So here we have a big data machine with a small cost.

I don't think that this is necessarily the most logical way that most online workers would be able to benefit from blockchain. This whole "paid to get advertised to" thing has already been established in a large scale in terms of PTC sites and all that, and it doesn't necessarily need to incorporate blockchain.

However, decentralised cryptocurrencies that facilitate global transfers of value clearly will have and already has an impact on online workers.

The fact that the transfers are relatively cheap and much more convenient compared to traditional fund remittance services will push globalisation of the labour force. Outsourcing of international labour will be made much easier given the fact that the payment aspect of it is now trustless, and funds won't get held by a third party, etc.

It might be possible but that's the return, it's like they're going to pay our data. They aren't going to pay because they will advertise products to us but they will pay because they already bought our data.

And for those people that aren't aware of protecting their data, well it's much better if they'll get the incentive rather than receive nothing while FB or any establishment is taking advantage of them.

If the advetisers start paying directly to the users for their data all the social networks, who act as a middle man, will lose their ad revenue, which makes me think that this business model would work only on a blockchain based social network.
By the way, having advertisers to pay users,in order to show them ads(sell them stuff) is a weird idea. Grin
