Hi all, need your kind advice.

I've bet on 1 tennis match last night, and the player lost 1st set, retired on 2nd set when she's trailing 0-3.

The result by officials is that she lost that match.

My question is: I bet on her to win on money-line, but if this match was incomplete due to player retire, is it still countable?

Apparently the bookmakers decided that my bet is lost, and I wish to clarify on this.

Please advise. thanks!

I don't know about others but the sports book in which I usually bet cancelled my bet when the opponent player got retired (happened a year ago). Maybe it differs from sportbook to sportsbook?

If you google up you will see that usually most of the sportsbook considers that if one set is completed the bet will stand. I wonder what sportsbook you were betting into.

Usually when the 1 set is lost and the player retires in the second they would count this as a loss for most sportsbooks since the first set has been completed.
But the websites rules vary so you can contact the one you placed a bet on to verify if it is indeed a loss or if it voids the bet. Then it would return your wagered amount if this is the case.
As avirunes mentioned it differs from each bookie which whom you bet with.
I remember betting on a site called directbet and their rules for some matches were different then another site I was wagering on the same game but they graded them differently. I think because directbet was in europe so their rules were different from the other site which was in central america.

I confirm this is the rule of my sportsbook. And you can find all the terms in their specific terms and conditions. Retired but completing 1 set (loss) is same as a loss. Bets are cancelled and returned if no set is completed at retire. I actually like to bet ML on the opponent if I know the other one is injured or has risk of injury. I remember winning a few after 1 set, when the player clearly cannot continue but they try to finish 1 set.

I think you need to recheck the betting rules you followed. Every bet has its own rules. Even if we have a common rule in tennis betting as long as you agree with the rules, it can be applied.

However, if you want to see the example of tennis betting rules that convey about the terms for a retiring player on a match, you can see below :
Quote
Some bookmakers void all bets in any situation where a player forfeits a match, regardless if the first set has finished or not. Other bookmakers remain all bets as valid, as long is the first ball is served.

You most probably won't get your money back op since the 1st set concluded and the bookmakers have already decided and their decision does make sense.

Its pointless trying to contact the sportsbook since this is general consensus and I doubt they will make an exception for you in this case.

It completely depends on the sportsbook that you are betting on. On Betfair, it is deemed as a push but on Bet365 and other major sites, anything over 1 set and a retirement is considered as a loss. You can check in their rule book on what your site considers as win or loss, for every sport.

No, it is irrespective of who won the first set. If your pick won the first set and is serving 40-0 up with the scoreline of 5-0 and he retires, it is still considered as a loss since your pick forfeited the match. Then again, it completely depends on the sportsbook most of the major ones would consider it a loss. Only exception I know is Betfair.

Unfortunately, you lost the bet since the player you bet on lost the first set and retired the game. So basically, you lost. And I think this post should be at Gambling discussion.

This is different in every service and that is why one has to read the rules before joining, especially this hard to find once  Wink.

OP you have to contact the support of the service you were playing with and ask for an explanation or read the house rules correctly.

The local betting shops in my city have a rule that if a player retires during the match the bet is voided. It is not WON or LOST but instead you get your money back. I found that out the hard way a few years ago. A women's match. My bet was winning, the player I bet on won the first set and her opponent retired due to an injury in the 2nd set with the result being 3:0 for the player I bet on. I was sure that my bet would be WON but I only got my wager amount back and it was VOID.

literally all the sites that I use grade the bets normally in case one set was completed , so they grade the moneyline and void asianhandicap and correct score

except sportsbet.io , if a player reitres even after completing one set then moneyline bets will be voided as well
so in case you are looking for a push in case of retirement then you can use sportsbet

I'm sure some other sites do the same as sportsbet , but I don't use any of them really

The most important aspect that you did not shared with us is on which sportsbook you have placed your bet. Usually almost every sportsbook has the same rule and that's when a player retires during a tennis match your bet is called VOID,meaning it will receive odd 1 and you will get your money back. But apparently there are a few sportsbook with different rules where they handle this kind of situations differently so the oy way you can find what happened is by contacting the support. They should be able to give you a proper and accurate answer.

Damn, that's why I don't bet on tennis matches. Grin
What if you bet on a winning player, but the match is cancelled due to the other player being injured?
Your sportsbook has two choices:
1.Paying you the profit.
2.Canceling your bet and giving your money back.
I'm pretty sure that they will choose the second option, despite their Terms of service/rules. Grin

that's why there are rules for sportsbetting and every gambler should check rules before betting with a bookie

it's not like when a gambler wins they cancel a bet , as long as your bet matches their rules then you will get paid

and regarding the scenario you gave I just clarified what happens in my previous post

The rules vary between the gambling websites. You could go through the rules, I haven't encountered any such issues recently. Previously when directbet was available for betting I faced similar issue, but their rule is opposite to the same. In the specific match each one a set and on the third set player 2 got retired. Upon the same player 1 is termed winner and I too won the bet.

Please advise. thanks!

Hey most of the sports book generally will consider that as a loss, there’re very few who may not consider it as a loss and refund you. I feel you need to dig in your sports book terms and conditions to see if you’re eligible for a refund, also you should share your sports books name for us to help you out. In a different sport where the match was drawn they refunded my bet, but on another sportsbook they didn’t so honestly your money is lost I would advise you to move on.

Without even asking this stuff you would mostly find these informations on their Terms but as part of awareness about on this issue, most sportsbook do really considered this as a loss yet
same as said above they do already finished 1 set. This mistake do really add up some lesson learned.  Grin

Well, it really varies in the sportsbook i guess OP didn't ask it first. Everyone should be aware of this kind of experience since there are circumstances that the other player might have a problem that could forfeit your bets. This must be a lesson learned experience.

This kind of practice is common, even myself I won't go through the rules that get associated with the games when it gets interrupted for some reason. By this I too will prefer gambling going through the rules, because it makes a big complication contacting support team and stating I'm not aware about it.
