Due to certain circumstances, I find myself in situations where I need to stay awake for long durations - for work-related purposes.
For instances, I need to stay up for the next 3 days and I am already awake for more than 24 hours straight.

So I was curious - is there an app, or device that I can use to verifiably track my sleep and open up a gambling game where people will bet how long I'll stay up?

Maybe I could go live for the duration, but I am not too keen on facing the camera.
Maybe I can post every 30/60 minutes in a thread with some solved puzzle that doesn't take more than a minute to do?


I am open to suggestions. Or if there are websites / apps for this thing, then let me know.

so I do not think you should make a basic mistake in which board to open a new topic. General gambling discussion should not be in this board so better to move it to the more appropriate board.

It's not a mistake, I thought this was the appropriate board considering this is about 'sleep gambling' - I'll move to discussions though, thanks for suggesting.

Related your main question, there are many application at the google play store to track your sleep but I do not think there is an application which offers users to bet on how long someone will stay up.
I do not even think that this will be an interested game, simply because it is easy to be manipulated.

Also, I've seen people go crazy on betting who can go without bathroom the longest, among other crazy shit - I think this is a cleaner & safer game than that.

I am pretty sure such an app does not exist and that's probably because no one thought about this before ot they were to shy to ask for it since this sounds like a stupid idea. I think there are a few app that could track your sleep even though I am sure they are not very precise but anyways none of them are related to gambling

That's not going to prove that you are awake during that period of time between your posts. There are all kind of sleeping methods that people have been using to try and be more productive and one of them was to sleep multiple times during the day but only take quick naps of 20-30 minutes. Even posting every 10 minutes is not going to be enough because you can take a very quick nap for only 10 minutes.

Maybe I could go live for the duration, but I am not too keen on facing the camera.

From my point of view this is a must, not a maybe. Going live for the whole duration of time you are not sleeping is the only option you have because that's the only way people can truly know if you are awake or not.

As for people gambling on this, I don't know what to say. First of all it will be hard to find people that are willing to spend money on this and secondly I think you should build your own gambling app for this because I am pretty sure you cannot convince any gambling website to add this kind of betting section to their website.
This idea could work if we are talking about a competition where the one who last the longest time awake will receive a prize and people can bet who is going to be the winner but it already sounds like something to complicated and I don't think that was your idea in the first place.

Not sure if you are calling me stupid, or my no sleep challenge stupid. Or the need for which I am staying up as stupid.
Gambling is stupid - period! Any challenge or action done in connection to gambling is inherently stupid.

From my point of view this is a must, not a maybe. Going live for the whole duration of time you are not sleeping is the only option you have because that's the only way people can truly know if you are awake or not.

I'm sure there can be technological ways to do this. For instance, the heart rate varies during sleep. So does breathing pattern. There are host of other biomarkers for sleeping and at least one of them can be done through an app (heart rate monitor).

If anything, video proof is the most easily doctor-able proof of all.


Maybe this discussion will open up new possibilities in a hardware development idea that would be able to detect if a person has been sleeping or not - imagine the number of lives it'll save if traffic cops had that kind of device.

I'm not sure such app exist so far but maybe you are inculcating it into the minds of programmers and developers.

However, my curiosity and reasoning is, if you own the gambling site and the bets on it being specifically about betting on your sleep durations etc, wouldn't you sleep or not depending on the bets placed on or against you in other to make profit for yourself and make the gamblers against you to lose  Grin

There is a way to track it! We now have a lot of wearable devices available which can track your heart rate and heart rate decreases while you sleep. The decreased heart rate while sleeping obviously depends on a lot of other parameters like body weight, height, age etc. But it surely decreases. So players can track if you fall asleep using your heart rate. Even though a lot of mathematical analysis needed to reach to an exact figure but it is possible!

Now probably your programmer friends can help you to design something for you! Hope this helps!

Let me tells a story. I have an uncle, and he has a friend. One day, his friend tells my uncle that he needs to sleep for 5 minutes and he asks my uncle to watch on his clock and make sure that it must 5 minutes, not more or less. Then my uncle starts watching on his clock and in the 5 minutes later, his friend woke up and get fresh in his face and he is ready to go to one place.

I have another experience. In 2010, I had a strange experience. I remember that is 3 days I don't sleep, every time I want to sleep, I close my eyes, but then I realize that I am not tired and I feel that I don't feel sleepy. So I woke up and do something, in that time, I help my father to fix the table in our kitchen.

When the night comes, I sit down in front of my house, and I don't do anything except feeling the night. I don't play gambling in that year until 2013 when I knew cryptocurrency.

That is my 3 days strange story that I don't sleep at all. After 3 days, I don't feel that I am sick or feeling something weird, but yes, that is a strange experience in my life.

Related to your thread, how if we make a bet with an escrow agent that will handle the money. And you could do something to tells us that you are not sleeping, and there is a jury (or maybe your friend or someone else near of you) that will tell us how long you need to stay awake and tells us if you don't sleep in 3 days.

Because I think until now, I am not found yet any apps or software or hardware that can tell us how long we don't sleep or I need to search on the other sources to find that thing.

Actually, heart rates are irregular during sleep cycles. In fact, in some cases, heart rates increase during a sleep cycle that has gone past the REM stage.

The only sure way to track if someone is sleeping is through brainwave analysis - but as far as my knowledge goes, those only monitor active sleep cycles. Complicated ways to track if someone slept is done through hormone checks - which are nontrivial nonportable processes that are kinda impractical for the intents and purposes of this 'gambling experiment'.

The idea is not to own a gambling site - the idea is to inspire the development or at the least a discussion of a tech wearable tech that can maybe track if someone has slept + or is actively sleeping.

If by chance I ever raise enough capital for such a website - it won't about me - it would be democratized and anyone would be able to take the 'challenge' ..

Sleep is one of the most critical bodily functions, anybody who thinks otherwise is complete moron. Your functioning is so impaired during moderate sleep deprivation that you can't even see your own reduced performance, and you can never recover that sleep debt.

If it wasn't an absolutely crucial function, it wouldn't be so ubiquitous in the animal kingdom. If there were a simple way to survive without sleep, we would have seen it by now.

Staying awake for such extended periods of time is the equivalent of self-harm, Guiness world record has banned all sleep deprivation records because they are insanely dangerous.

Ah, this looks like a Russian Sleep Experiment! Your idea is sounding cool, but harming your own self is pretty much bad. You idea when brought into life would probably be like

You need to start a thread and hire an escrow for holding all the users funds. Just for experimental purposes, you can receive 0.0005 btc from each participant and store in the escrow wallet. Let us consider, at least 10 people join the gambling game. The total pool would be 0.005 which will be received by the winner. The participants keep guessing your sleeping strategy and post in your sleep experiment topic.

Honestly speaking, I don't think there is any such way to track your sleeping without you getting live on video. So, if you are really concerned about privacy you could better mute the microphone and can put up a mask like thing. By this way people will be assured you are really awake. So those participants do keep betting on your sleep experiment topic, and once you got to sleep the total pool amount will reach the winner.

I don't think a programmable code would work here, since they are based on the life situations of a person where each gambler or participant should verify that you are not sleeping probably. Looks like a very interesting topic to have a discussion, hoping for more ground breaking ideas from the minds of real gamblers and programmers.

I agree online video is probably the only sure solution but without a mask - how then can I check that you are really you?

Writing posts - drops out completely - you can make an appointment with several people and you can write down alternately.
Today we also have popular smart watches / wristbands monitoring life activites - but it's still the same problem - how will we know it's you?

I think there will not be another way to video ...

Anyways, i use xiaomi mi band and it does have a sleep tracker when you download the app anf sync the two. It even shows how long your deep and light sleep is. It's like trying to lick your elbow - there are certain things you just won't be able to do physically, so the fun lies in 'gambling' on who gets to do it the longest - for instance I did fall asleep last night.

Also - any sleep tracking app in a mobile does not actually track your sleep. It assumes you are asleep going by your presets and inactivity.

Really? how many cases of fatal insomnia have you come across in your bio-study career? Sleep deprivation in and itself isn't harmful - I don't drive, I rarely get out of the house I live in, I've transformed into a basic a hermit golem here lol - probably one that hasn't gone crazy for a magical ring yet.

Due to certain circumstances, I find myself in situations where I need to stay awake for long durations - for work-related purposes.
For instances, I need to stay up for the next 3 days and I am already awake for more than 24 hours straight.

So I was curious - is there an app, or device that I can use to verifiably track my sleep and open up a gambling game where people will bet how long I'll stay up?

This is an interesting one.
 I think our heart rate slows down a bit when we are asleep. Maybe you buy a device that tracks your heart rate when you sleep.
A cheap alternative is with the use of web cam to track your motion to see when you are awake. But the won't be very reliable as you can easily pretend to be asleep then wake up at a planned time to win a bet.

That's possible OP like don't sleep if you want that to do another thing for me if you enjoy a thing example gambling here in crypto then try that still if you can and you need to control yourself always like risk the affordable for you

The negative about this is in your health like your body can't handle this then you can't think very well also still that base in you so try if you can
There have been examples of successful businessmen and CEOs who have been very much dedicated towards their work that they did up to 100 hours of work a week. Talking about Elon Musk when he was founding PayPal. It is not impossible to do something with a willing mind but as you see in gambling, you have to make use of your intellect and wisdom, having sound sleep makes your mind work quicker that it would do otherwise.

Honestly, I may not prefer going to take such a challenge as I do gamble rigorously. I am enjoying my gambling and any continuous gambling may bring changes into my gambling interests which I basically do not want to be happening.
