Payment for KYC registration

Hello!
I am an old user of Blockchain.info wallet and I seemed myself as a person who is against KYC system. Recently I've got an invitation to register on Blockchain.info KYC system and to be paid for that. Do you guys think it is nice strategy of the wallet or i should simply ignore it and continue to use it without identifying?

I think you're referring to the Stellar lumens they're giving away. If that's not the case and they are simply asking you for ID then it should be a red flag (could be a fake email too)

Blockchain.com is an online wallet, so regardless of their offer, It's not really suggested to use them. I would go with something like Electrum If I were you.

I also received several emails in the past which was fake emails. The graphic and presentation was same like blockchain.com but the email was from some random email address.

Sometimes spammers/scammers try their things. So careful about it. Check the sender email address.

But I already think that it is a red flag when a website ask you make payment and upload KYC. I don't get the idea as they are requesting for payment. You need to be careful, KYC is not to be paid for. Again, it can be used to hack your account as they may not be genuine.

definitely those guys from blockchain.com are acting very badly. I do not even understand why the hell they're asking people to do KYC. Are they a wallet and what do wallets have with KYC? Am I missing something?

Both of them as one doesn't contradict the others.

They are giving away tokens that can be printed endlessly and they receive back your true identity which might be worth x100 times more for future marketing, it's clearly a good move from their part.

As for you, it comes to how much you value those documents and how much trust you put into blockchain.info
By their TS it will give a $25 airdrop, is it worth the risk? It's solely your decision, but I wouldn't do it if it were only for those tokens.

Blockchain states they're asking for KYC in this airdrop of XLM because they're concerned that people might register multiple accounts in an attempt to get lots of XLM (which seems like a valid concern to me, click for explanation), but I would personally not risk having my information potentially leaked and stolen on the Internet for just $25. Blockchain might not be telling the entire story as to why they're asking for KYC as well. Really up to you in the end, varies on a person-to-person basis I guess.

I find this giveaway on blockchain.com when I logged in, I think one-month before receive the first email from there. I'm 100% sure that is official Stellar airdrop worth $25.
Everyone can claim this when login, no need to click on any link in the email.
I agree with leowonderful that they asking KYC because of prevention of multiple registration and claim.

Definitely connected with stellar lumens giveaway which do ask about KYC yet this is the thing i do know that blockchain.com ask about such requirements yet into their traditional operation they havent ask
out yet for you to comply on using up their wallet.

Nobody would use Blockchain's wallets anymore if they started requiring KYC to use them as they're not secure at all in the first place and don't have any significant advantages over other wallets besides the fact that their wallets are accessible remotely from most devices. I don't see it getting to that point in the near future but that would absolutely ruin that part of Blockchain's operations, though I did previously theorize that this giveaway requiring KYC might be a step towards them requiring KYC for all users.

It's up to you, but personally, I won't do it. I'd rather not get the giveaway and continue using the site without KYC. Tbh, I have an account there and never had even a single transaction. I'd prefer using a desktop wallet that's why.

I won't question the KYC because I understand that they require it to avoid abuse in the giveaway, that seems to be the only way (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'll go for a KYC procedure to those services that will be used related to exchanging fiat or any other service that needs a legal policy. But for an online wallet? and doing just for exchanging 25 bucks? No, nevermind.

And you will risk all that for $25? It never ceases to amaze me how little people care about their privacy and security, especially when a tiny amount of money is involved.

For most people, they wont really tend to sell out their identity for $25 but there are really some dumb people who do risk out without even caring their info to be given

@OP, you just have to ignore that if you don't have any plans of sending them your ID. It's just an airdrop that has been running until now.

Whether it's too small or not, still, I will never do that. They don't have any services that requires KYC rather than this giveaway, so why should I? Simple.

I think abuse of the giveaway is the lowest on the list of reasons they do this.

It's more an attempt to gain more verified users hoping that you will become a paid user. If you think logically, most of their users only use their service without actually paying for anything. It means that blockchain doesn't earn anything, but actually has to pay up for you to use them. This is a convenient way to work around it, and it's non stressful for people because all they have in mind is their free money.

People here are so easy to fall victim to smart marketing of services looking to increase their income. It's understandable that they do this from a business perspective, but less understandable when it comes to people exchanging their information for a few coffees worth of money.
