How about IEO? a lot of people considers that IEO will replace ICO now, and I guess IEO is very safe compared to ICO. Investors will give a lot of trust to IEO project as long as they choose reputable exchange. Personally, IEO just have a little risks because if the coin/token doesn't has interest from investors then for the investor that has been bought the token will not have a deep anxiety about the money. I'm sure, each exchange that failed to announce a project will give the money back to investors.

You are right, everyone needs to have a strong conviction about the coin they are investing in before going for it but we cannot fully blame ourselves when we mistakenly invest in some projects that are not worth it and end up fading away in the long run.

Some of these project does everything in their power to make their paper/project interesting and more convincing but yet, they still end up not meeting up to their own end of the bargain by abandoning the project along the line, the best is just to be hopeful that one does not get caught in these bad projects that will make one loose his investment
