Worrying about such things is a quick route to becoming a frothing maniac. You could say the same about every single Bitcoin-related handle. Bitcoin itself is bigger than these things and will still be chugging long after Mr. Ver has uploaded his mind into a probe and departed the solar system. It's on whoever gets into BTC to know what the score is with everything they encounter.

Agreed. It's a non-issue at this point. Not even worth the hassle of wasting precious thought about. If this is high on someones priority list, they are missing out on so much. There are still only 24 hours in each day.

Ok, I want you to walk back in there and very calmly, very politely tell the risk assessors to fuck off! -Mark Baum

Money can buy good domains, but it cannot buy back a good reputation. Bitcoin.com has been tainted by Roger Ver's bad reputation and his shady business practices and that will stick in people's minds and it will be his lasting legacy. People will not remember all the good things that Roger Ver has done for Bitcoin, because the bad things that he is doing, has a bigger impact on the community.  Angry

We are very happy with the .org domain, because Bitcoin is a Open-source project and .org is better suited for this experiment.  Wink <Our task will be to educate people on the difference and remind them what Roger Ver has done>

Bitcoin.com was registered before Bitcoin was released. Satoshi even explained that he preferred .org instead of trying to launch the site through .com.

Bitcoin.com was registered in January 2008. The whitepaper was only released in November. In 2014 Roger purchased the domain. For some time the exchange OKCoin used the domain, but the contract was broken after a series of confusions. Bitcoin.com is a site with a commercial purpose. It has the idea of being profitable. Bitcoin.org aims to help educate the world about Bitcoin.

Thanks for this bit of information. I have been wondering the same thing why would a single person be allowed to have total control of the name Bitcoin.com when it could have been used as the educational site for it. Now, it is even used as a staging point in Roger Ver's many ideas that can be working against Bitcoin. Of course, if a person will just be searching for the stories surrounding this incident he can easily understand that Bitcoin.com is not really for Bitcoin but for another coin claiming to be the real one. It just so happen that even up to now with the explosion of many new domain extensions, .com seems to automatically what can come up to one's mind. anyway, this and more are what can be making the ongoing saga of Bitcoin more exciting and colorful.

And we should start pointing people to www.Bitcoin.org for more ideas and eplanation on Bitcoin.

Shouldn't be much of a problem anymore, considering that this has been discussed countless of times inside and outside the forum. There was also an issue regarding bitcoin.com posting an ad about "bitcoin" only for users to be redirected on the trading pair of USD/BCH. Anyway, at this point people may have already known about the difference. Besides, satoshi himself confirmed that he wanted .org more than the .com domains, considering that a lot of web domain speculators might have snatched up the name already anyway.

Roger Ver is more like an entrepreneur who wanted to get involved in Bitcoin. (If I am correct he is also one of the investors behind the Digital Currency Group). Then when he started having differences of opinion, he started screwing up.

When he bought this domain name, it was with the idea of fooling people into thinking that bitcoin cash is the real Bitcoin. When you go to their site they even have video tutorials to explain to newbies, and they really explain to them that Bitcoin cash is the real Bitcoin. I'm also as certain that he's the one behind the @Bitcoin twitter account to apply his questionable methods.

No one involved with bitcoin at the beginning had the foresight to register Bitcoin.com?

Instead we let Roger Ver have control over bitcoin.com with his shady intentions.  I still think he is a good crypto supporter and he wants to see everything succeed but what do you guys think of him owning bitcoin.com?
As explained above the domain was registered by people who wanted to resale it at a later stage and Roger Ver had the money to purchase the domain at a later stage and nothing can be done against it, he had the money to purchase and i am sure the person who registered the domain initially made a fortune. Roger ver is an avid supporter of the crypto market and he talks a lot of trash too. Cheesy

I think it sucks that he's using it for his own agenda, but that's well within his rights. I also think he's only a crypto supporter in a sense that he's going to be in favor of moves that would benefit him financially -- so pretty much like most people in crypto, except with more power and influence.

Even if someone else had registered Bitcoin.com at the beginning, we have no idea what it's going to be used for. It's a valuable domain, and it's still going to be centrally controlled like it is now. I guess it is more ideal for someone who actually supports Bitcoin to control it though.

i don't think we can stop at "it sucks" and "it is his right" in this case because he has been scamming people over the past year+ and is in fact illegal activity, the fact that the law doesn't care yet because bitcoin is not regulated doesn't change the fact that the has been selling "fake bitcoin" to those who wanted to buy bitcoin.

I guess it is matter of years when Roger Ver will dedicate (may be sell) bitcoin.com for bitcoin. When his shitcoin will finally collapse then he will have nothing to advertise there. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
We can focus on educating or increasing awareness till then.

I disagree with his ways, but I'm pretty sure he has been very careful not to cross the line between being misleading to outright scamming. Bitcoin related scammers have been apprehended before, so he's probably not getting away with his questionable tactics because of a lack of regulation alone. I'm sure he has lawyers who tell him how far he can go and where to stop, so his plethora of fans don't get a chance to send him back to jail.

So yeah we can't really do anything, which, to me, sucks.

I realize that things are becoming chaotic as we debate this issue. But I also know that Bitcoin.com is like a big money bag, with this domain owner who can rent or do different services to earn a sum of money from it. I believe everything is easy for those who seek money.

If a domain is owned by the person, that support scamcoins like Bitcoin Cash (BCH) then it may be easily used to mislead new and unexperienced users and make them buy a scamcoin that Roger Ver is endorsing. Especially when such people are always screaming that BCH is a real bitcoin. Then a propper domain will make this information see more legitimate.

I am of the opinion that the bitcoin group made a serious mistake by not registering and owning the site bitcoin.com. Allowing Mr. Var to register and own Bitcoin.com will definitely affect bitcoin because bitcoin.com  is already associated with it. If Mr var sneeze now the whole team will cold.

There is no bitcoin group. It's all a bunch of individuals with varying agendas and plans. Bitcoin.org is owned by Theymos and Cobra. They could both go full Craig Wright with the right combination of drugs, and indeed Cobra appears to be about 5-6 different people these days.

If Ver hadn't got his hands on bitcoin.com he could've tried an alternate domain and used financial and technical muscle to push it as high as possible in search results. It becomes whack a mole ish in a very short time.

I think this topic should be removed from the discussion thread of Bitcoin. Discussing someone reminds me of grandmothers who sit on a bench and do nothing and discuss everything. It is difficult for me to judge this person because I practically don't watch him.He owns this site, well, let him own it.Who forbids you to create something like that?

I'm also as certain that he's the one behind the @Bitcoin twitter account to apply his questionable methods.
He recently said that it wasn't him, but I find this very hard to believe considering all the Bitcoin 'Core' nonsense they come up with. That Twitter handle uses the same wording as Roger, so he's probably lying here.

He also said that he wanted to remove Bitcoin 'Core' from everything related to his dot com site and wallet, but it seems that he changed his mind. If he gets rid of Bitcoin, he won't be able to refer to it anymore, which is what he badly needs.

So sad that Roger has so much influence within crypto. If he let BitPay and blockchain utilize SegWit and LN they would be so much more successful, but this rich bastard has money enough and doesn't mind holding back growth....

he is ensuring his own profitability by doing all the things he has been doing. when he fools people into buying his coin, he is making profit. when he prevents the adoption of SegWit and postpones the inevitable growth of bitcoin he is prolonging his profit making capabilities as he pushes his shitcoin on the masses.

There is a FOMO brewing...
