Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

That's not strange at all. It means those accounts were registered in a short span of time

I can't view any of their posts, as I have the ANN section blocked, but I did see the thread that you linked to.  In any case, hopefully you reported these knuckleheads for spamming and will report any new accounts you see writing the same shit.  Better to do that than to start up a thread about it, though it's good to call other people's attention to them I guess.

This happens very often in that section, and it's the reason why I have it on ignore.  The project developers obviously have tons of competition and need to keep their thread(s) at the top, so they resort to either creating alts to make "great project" posts or hire someone to do the same.  It's a well-known thread-bumping strategy, and the only thing you can and should do is report all the post you see that look like they're bots or alts or whatever.  Better yet, just put the section on ignore unless you're actually interested in reading the new project announcements--and I don't see why any rational person would.

I am completely agree with your suggestion but ignoring a section can't be a complete solution. Every section of this forum got a value and that's why I feel it necessary to let everyone know about this. Maybe my little try will help our forum moderators to take necessary steps on regarding issue. yeah its true that spammers show their activity very often on that section but we can't let them do it easily.

If we ignore spam then how can we will be able to stand against those kind of spammer. Ignoring them can be a encouragement for upcoming spammer IMO.

Its very strange to see that all the user id starts with the number of 1739. Look like its their favourite prefix.

There is nothing strange about that, nor they have the option to choose their UserIDs to be their favorite number. All the accounts have probably been created within a short period of time, one after the other, and that is the reason why their UserIDs are starting with the same prefix.

UserIDs work in this way:

User one creates an account named: Anonymous1. The system assigns the account the UserID '125751'.
User two creates an account right after the creation of the account of 'User one'. The system assigns the account the UserID '125752'.

That is how UserIDs are assigned, and that is why these accounts have the same numbers at the start of their UserIDs because they have been created within a short period of time, after one another, and probably by the same person/group.

I am completely agree with your suggestion but ignoring a section can't be a complete solution.
I can obviously only speak for myself, but putting spammy sections on ignore--and any other sections that I don't want to read--is a perfect solution.  There's no way I could find anything interesting here without keeping my unread posts feed free from garbage.  If I didn't have sections on ignore, I'd be seeing all of the local board threads, all of the bounty threads, ANNs, you name it.

Frankly, it's the moderator's job to keep the ANN section clean, and unless someone really wants to read those ANN threads, the thread bumping shouldn't bother anyone.  It's kind of like when members post their social media tweets in the bounty section--that's what the section is for, and as long as those posts are contained within that section it's not a problem.  I'm not saying the bumping isn't a problem, because it is and those posts ought to be reported.  I'm just saying that if you know where the problem is and you don't really care for ANN threads, just put the section on ignore.

As I said, this is a well known issue.  It's also an extremely pervasive one, and I really doubt even a group of members could keep up with all the spam, much less one or two moderators.  That whole space is killing itself.

I have often seen full sections under spam attack by newbie accounts with a definite pattern of usernames in a short span of time. The recent one that I recollect if my memory serves correct which I reported was in the Lending section as per this image :

I remember seeing a wall of old threads from Lending section which had been left to die being bumped to the front page with a similar message. Moderators will be able to check these. In my opinion doing a report on these messages and with a message that conveys that there is a large number of accounts spamming this same message, gets dealt with properly.

As you can see in the image I reported only 3 threads with such a message and in turn all the new threads that had been bumped went to sleep once the mods cleaned them up. Smiley

SPECIAL NOTE: Its very strange to see that all the user id starts with the number of 1739. Look like its their favourite prefix.

This just means the account were created in quick succession, and increases the likely hood that they are all related or created by the same person. So by this the forum can get rid of them all at the same time if they are found guilty of a ban able offense.

P.S, you don't get to choose your preferred id number which is added to your profile.
