I generally look for undervalued coin as per their development and possibility of being used in real life. Moreover, I used to invest in top coins listed in CMC in order to reduce the risk level.

I invest in cryptocurrency when the price at low price, i also see the price, the news, and the popularity on coinmarketcap.

Before investing in cryptocurrency, you should check first which coin/token that good to invest, join their telegram group to check information about coins and tokens.

most cheap coins are known to be risky therfor you cant say that they are suitable for a hodler  . if you are looking for sure benefits then why cant you just invest directly on top altcoins such as etherium or top crypto such as bitcoin  ?  in that way you can minimize your risk of getting scammed while you can also earn sure profit if the coins will increase  .  

now for the question if altcoins are right for investment , id say what kind of altcoins ? because altcoins is only a general term for different cryptos  . @op can you be more specific next time  ? so that we can give you a better suggestion  .

Yes, but you have to take some factors in consideration and the factors are, how well the altcoin is doing presently, how great will the altcoin be in future and the profit to realized at the end.

In my opinion alts are a good choice (i can't say good investment, because it could turn not to be) because they go up much harder than Bitcoin. Bitcoin is more stable and is unlikely to see it spike 10x, 20x. Also for beginners is another thing when you buy 100-200$ worth of cryptocurrency, because in BTC you'll have 0.0xxxx amount and on let's say DASH/ADA/NEO you'll have full coins in your wallet.

I'll choose coin that has popularity instead I look at the price side. I have experienced when I choose altcoin that has a high price but in the end the price dropped and I lost more than half the initial capital. Usually this happens to the new altcoin, you know when the altcoin price when the ICO is $1 but when the ICO has been skipped and the coin is already been listed on several exchanges but the price slowly decreases. That was the first loss when choosing investment in terms of price.

on this current situation i only focus on finished projects which is surely i can make profits even though the situation still not fine.  For me it's very necessary just to cover my losses and etc .instead on some uncertain projects because i dont want to end up losing money and became stuck on it again like what happened before. So much better to focus on the project that surely 100% there's a return afterwards and not shitcoin.

chose in the list of coinmarketcap.com then prefer at the top list or top rank because those crypto are strong and has a good market price volatility. But, if you are not new in this system then probably you can check other crypto as well that likely will let you earn more.
