i myself a verified user  was conducting a trade with another user . who in return asked me to provide a picture of my bank card and id . if this man is not a scammer . what would you call him ? ignorant and arrogant ? what made him feel it was ok for him to ask for such information? he could have simply set his advert to only show to verified users . but no his greed would not allow him to do this so he will set is advert for all and put stupid demands to the traders that click on his advert. what makes this man to believe he has the legal means to handle your personal information beyond what the site allows him to see has he operates under the sites licence no ? know your customer does not translate to ask for bank card pictures sorry. now you might ask why the title says local bitcoins work with scammers! . well i let this guy know i despise a person like himself that is unable to realise that he is way out of bound but feels so strongly that he is in the right . so what should i do? i cancelled the trade blocked and distrust. what did he do ? copy pasted my statement telling him who does he think he is to ask me for my bank card photo ., and put the title i must be mental . so now what more has local bitcoin got to do with this?. well my account was no longer 100% feedback whilst his remained at 100% . do not forget i cancelled the trade with him anyway. i made a ticket to localbitcoin to address this . what did the agent who did not even bother to name himself say to me ? he is reviewed the situation described above and he does not think anything is wrong and there is nothing he can do . he did not explain anything beyond this response . so it is fair to assume that this individual has a beneficial relationship with localbitcoins . has he seems to be one of those people that live on the site . is that why he is allowed to behave in such a way. that is borderline identity theft enabling and local bitcoin at best is complicit has there lack of proper procedures and pandering to those that they think earn them money. they need to explain themselves . how many people have had their identities stolen in such a manner on local bitcoins for this website to make it seem like its ok is a crime in itself.

P2P platform like localbitcoins are not responsible for the terms of their users. If you do not like someone's terms then do not deal with them. There are many other buyer/sellers in there, pick one that you like.

I’ve given my details & or ID to sellers on LBC loads of times, it’s normal practise on there now.
Lots of scammer buyers put in bank claims, chargebacks etc. By asking for a buyers ID, bank card, a note with the date & how much they’re buying it means a seller is covered against being scammed.

When you buy just makes sure you use a verified seller with loads of positive trade feedback & you should be fine.

how many peoples identity have been stolen in this manner on local bitcoins . according to you it is ok for you to send me your bank card picture and personal id picture whilst i fiddle with my lap top in my kitchen ? ? ok further more i,m not even sure if i mentioned i was buying or selling. so what made you assume any one party deserved better protection than the other? buyer or the seller . this same site allowed a buyer to attempt a paypal charge back scam on me . i did not release the coins and they backed him up and allowed him to put up almost 10 reviews negative ones how is that even possible?. the guy was proving to be a proper scammer in the end. so this is not my first dance with this website and them pandering to scammers. your logic does not make any sense sorry . the whole point of the website is to protect the buyer and the seller. do not ignore the points in the post i,m not new to that website and i am verified by them . what was the purpose of this verification. can some random user on local bitcoin show they can comply with eu data protection laws ? so let us not act like because some random joe does not want to take a risk by operating on a website that provides him escrow services already. can instead trample on other peoples rights just to try and protect himself from loosing on a risky venture that needs escrow ? because his bitcoin is more valuable than their money or vise versa?

Local Bitcoin is just a website were any user can register as an buyer and seller. They usually do not monitor each profile and also do not interfere in the trade requirements of the buyer or seller.

Due to the increasing number of crypto scam attempts any buyer or seller could ask for an identity verification to be safe at his side if he is scammed later.

If you were working on an PayPal realted trade on local Bitcoin you are most probably need to do a Identity verification with the trader as its an reversable method of payment and is risky. I personally have dealt with users asking for identity verification for trades mostly PayPal related.

no i was not using paypal . i was saying above that a pandered trader on the website tried to scam me in this manner in the past. when this guy asked me for my id it is optional for me to think he is out of order it is irrelevant that he is worried about getting scammed when it comes to protecting my personal information on my account. his worries are his own . and he had no rights to leave a negative feed back what would be his reasoning . he rights i must be mental. one would think a quick ticket should fix this . i get a reply from local bitcoin claiming the review was reviewed and its perfectly fine . i have blocked this trader for asking for such things and distrusted him for asking for such things. no trade was conducted . his review was able to remove my account from 100% feedback like the paypal scammer who was able to leave about 10 feed backs in 1 day from 1 trade how was that possible. if local bitcoins is not working with this people? both were able to keep their 100% feed backs why? the paypal scammer was proving in the end to be a proper scammer fyi. the guy that left 10 feed backs from 1 trade in 1 day in case you are not following what i,m typing.

and according to localbitcoins.com calling people mental because they refuse to trade with you and comply with your unreasonable illegal demands  is not abusive at all .  ., and wait a picture of my bank card really ? like really ?

Nobody is forcing you to trade with this person. If he made a request that you deem unreasonable, you have the ability and right to say no. That is the whole purpose of a peer-to-peer market. His security standards are simply higher than your expectations; you need to go find a seller who's security standards are lower and you'll be good. Tons of them exist.

Can you put a link to the users localbitcoins profile where he sends 10 negative feedback for a singal trade?

Blind statements without any proof would not explain much here.

you guys are not reading the original post properly ?
I think you are not getting our point here!

what part of him is allowed to handle such data?
You are allowed to decide with whom to deal on localbitcoins, so no one forced you to deal with a specific scammer you are complaing about and its not a issue if the trader asks for identity verification.

Were his terms outlined on his original listing before you messaged him? If they were not, he has no right to give you negative feedback.

Fair enough. You had the right to refuse those demands, and although he technically is allowed to give you whatever feedback he wants, his action was wrong in my view. Luckily, I think LBC only displays the feedback of those people who are high-volume traders on your public account, if I remember correctly.

he even had the audacity to call me mental in his feedback. which apparently is not abusive at all according to local bitcoins standards, and yes he is one of those so called high volume guys which i  personally translate to lives on the website and has now registered a 12 pounds company to set up shop officially. but will say oh please do not mention bitcoin in the payment . what a joke . i only log on if i need to buy or sell and goodbye till the next time

March 25, 2019, 7:18 p.m.
the guy to me : Good evening,

As it’s our first trade together we will need to go through some verification. Once complete I will provide the payment details for you to make the bank transfer. Verification is one time only and will not be needed in future trades.

To complete verification please provide two compulsory documents for identification:

1.   A close up picture of your ID + the DEBIT CARD for the account you are going to use to make the payment. (Tip: hide the long number by partially placing it under the ID. ID can be Passport or Driving License).

2.   Once you have provided the photo we will have a quick WhatsApp video chat so I can confirm I am speaking to you directly and not a man in the middle scammer.

Verification is common practice among all traders on Local Bitcoins. I know it’s a bore but we have to do it in order to avoid chargeback scams that can seriously harm our business.

If you are happy to proceed please start with step one, if not you can cancel on the right hand side.

Let's forget about localbitcoins. I hope you are familiar with ebay and amazon. if a buyer or seller in ebay or amazon do something wrong with you then do you give the blame to ebay/amazon? If you do then you surely missing the basic concept of a marketplace.

I am sure they have a customer service, they have a dispute team. If you have any issue with any buyer/seller then just contact the customer service/dispute team.

The problem with LBC's trust system is that they take every feedbacks into consideration. One can tarnish anyone's reputation or competitors reputation by posting a negative feedback. They don't have any sort of trust power or something like a reference which enables the user to see if a feedback is legit or not. Though I won't call them as someone working with scammers since they have designed their system that way and some are taking advantage of it and abusing it to take out their competitors.

They just need to add something so that others find a way to check if feedbacks are legit or not.

yes you are right one would expect the website to to be able to sort this out without much fuss . but instead i get a reply to my ticket stating the seller is permitted to ask for this kind of information and his review is valid and not abusive. that was the response from local bitcoin i can paste it here if you want.
Ok now let us compare this scenario to ebay . it would be like any person who shows interest in your product by bidding is allowed to leave a review of their trade experience with you regardless if they won the auction or not. the point here being i cancelled the trade with this person then he left the review. no need for me compare this to amazon.
