Just a small query. When we report a post to moderators , do we need to write in the comment box
- one word reason the reporting the post or
- a description of why is being reported or
- no reason why
What’s the best/easiest for the mods ?
Only been on the forum seriously for a few weeks and I do like to do things the right way.
TIA

My personal advice: make sure the report is descriptive enough so that by only looking at your report as well as the contents of the reported post I would be able to discern as to what's wrong with it. While stuff like low value posts or ref spam links might not require much explaining, reporting something like plagiarism would definitely require additional info (e.g an original source for plagiarism).

Good to see that newbies are encouraging to report spam post. Obviously this is a good practice. However @ TryNinja already mentioned you a thread link that will help you to understand everything about report spam post. To be honest I was also inspired from the same thread. Hopefully you will get your all answer there. Keep reporting and don't too much think about accuracy.

What I've noticed is a lot of users will actually report a post for being a repeated message/copy and paste, and just label it "spam" or "low content" or something like that. I fell into this trap when reporting too so I do get it. Basically, when you are following a thread you can pick out copy, and paste really easy, but if you don't link to it in your report message, then the moderator reviewing it, will not go through every single page looking for it to verify, especially when we are talking about hundreds of pages. Even if there's only a small amount of pages, and they go through it it can be missed. Basically, what I'm getting at is try to include as much information as possible, including references. It makes our job easier, and also decreases the chances of your report being marked bad.

I would advise OP to definitely write at least a short description of why he's reporting a post.  If you don't, it might not be obvious to a moderator why that post is being reported--yes, if the reason is because of a referral link or something like that it's pretty easy to tell, but if it's something relatively subjective like spam or trolling, it's not.

The more clearly you explain, it's more clear to the mods.

And yes, you should stick to the reporting guide here.

Also note: "Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports"

Good Luck!

All posts above are correct and will surely give you the information you were looking for. But, let me tell you this one fact I have in mind, reporting is a serious matter and not a forum function for children to play. Reporting a fellow spammer is somehow a "good" thing but is "ridiculous" . You get what I said isn't? Because by just looking at your recent posts, it makes me want to get back on reporting spammers again after these past months of inactivity.

I'm not discouraging you, instead I'm giving you motivation. All I'm saying is, while reporting spammers, you should as well improve your own posts or else someday, another spammer will just report you as well (or some of your posts are already been reported).
