What coin should I 'mine' with my laptops?

Hello,

I have two laptops with good specs eating dust. I thought to set them to work as nodes or miners or something like that. See if it's worthwhile.

The specs of my best laptop are i7, 16 GB RAM, 1.xx GHz, Windows 10. The other is a 4GB RAM laptop. I think it's i5, but I don't know the exact specs from the top of my head.

I'm a newbie in staking and mining and I don't want to install Ubuntu or Linux. I'm not an IT guy.

It can be leading or non-leading coins. That doesn't matter.

Does anyone have tips and suggestions about where to start and what to mine?

May we know what's the GPU of your laptop? most of the coins that can be mine through CPU and GPU but most of the miners preferred to mine using GPU.

Why? According to en.bitcoin.it "A CPU core can execute 4 32-bit instructions per clock (using a 128-bit SSE instruction) or 8 via AVX (256-Bit), whereas a GPU like the Radeon HD 5970 can execute 3200 32-bit instructions per clock (using its 3200 ALUs or shaders)."

but if you will mine using CPU you're just about to waste your electricity.

It is not advisable to mine with laptop.  I have tried before but it doesn't worth it.  I could remember mine about a month and end up with around $4 worth of coins.  I have to quit because after spending some much in energy I was at loses.

ya you wont make alot, it will be speculative mining.
find a cpu only coin to get a few 1000 of them, then HODL them for a year or two, see what happens (i did that with PASC when it launched and when it hit polo it was big profit)

what i would worry more about is HEAT PRODUCED
you will need a way to keep your cpus cold, as i bet you if you run your chip @ 90 degrees , in a few months SOMETHING in the laptop will die likely haha

This ^^ is very true. Don't put your laptop and its CPU at risk of dying. Laptops are not projected to be in use all day long at maximum power. They are projected to be used a while and to shut them down at the end of the day. If you absolutely have a laptop you don't care about, you may try mining, if only for educational purposes. You won't earn much anyway.

Mining with GPU is a good idea and it also not a waste of energy since the OP never mention any coin yet and the last time I check only those popular and well used coins not fresh/new coin that can lead to wasting of energy when mine through GPU.

the specifications of your computer are fairly sufficient for mining cryptocurrency, I recommend using OS Linux that is much better to use and safe than OS Windows how to mine coins is very difficult and vulnerable to viruses

Take a look over https://www.hostero.eu/cpu-mineable-coins. It contains coins that are mineable with CPU, and for some of the coins you can see profitability calculations.

With such laptops, you should only pay attention to coins that are mined exclusively on the CPU. I also experimented with laptops a couple of years ago, and quite successfully, by the way. Then I got some blocks on laptops. The coin that was mined, it seems the coin Biblepay. There was a very specific algorithm just for the CPU.

Wouldn't it be also possible to mine Monero with your CPU on a laptop? Nothing against BiblePay but Monero does look a bit more like a serious project.

I won't recommend you to mine with your laptops because it's not worth it at all. You don't need to follow other people to mining. Your laptop will get to heat, and it could be damaged. Even if you still decide to mine coins, I guess that the rewards still not too big and it's a waste of time to spend. But it's all your decision, you could still try, but I cannot suggest what the coin to mining with your laptop.

If you mine with your laptop, consider using it a capacity lower than 100% (use fewer mining threads), and make sure it doesn't get too hot.

Speculative mining would be more suitable as you are going to mine very little anyways, so it makes sense to mine newer/less established coins, in the hope their values goes up in the future. I recommend http://webdollar.io.

Notebook performance is very outdated, mining efficiency is not very high, but doing a POS node is a good choice. Just a suggestion.

For Monero, it was already too late to use a laptop. I started mining BBP with almost 12 blocks, that is, the blockchain has just been launched. Reward for found block was at first very large.  Soon the coin got listed on C-CEX and the price there was about 20sat. By the way, the mining was right in the wallet and without any pools. The pool appeared there later, then the difficulty of the network grew and the meaning of mining on the laptop disappeared.

Running it as masternode would be the best choice, mining wont going to do it.
You could hunt down coins like JSEcoin and Bittube to mine aside the node.

Core i7 and Core i5 are good processors but mining is not wothy even with them, I have tried a gen 4 i7 and it only produced about 15 cent almost one year ago, now I think it should be even less so it is better if you sell those laptops rather than ruin them with mining.
