A little advice to: tk808,
everyone here evaluates and thinks you are very positive.
Since the merit system has been implemented, people are trying to use useful posts to achieve things like you @ tk808.

So, my goal is to make this topic so that people here don't think it's negative for you.

My suggestion is for @ tk808, you should see and judge before you send (sMerit), which you give.

as you do now, against (3) the account below:

I don't think you need to do background check before awarding merit to anyone. If a post worth merit then just give it.

In some cases you have to, especially when the post looks like plagiarism and in a board full of spammers like the alternative subsection, it has to be done. Although he has been alerted severally and I'm sure he won't give out merit without carryout some background check in future. You can't blame him though, he was a victim of his own success after just receiving 40+/- merit since the merit system was introduced to receiving almost 200+/- merit in just 24hrs he must have been overwhelmed with Joy and decided to do the same to other thereby meriting those users and others in the process.

Yes, everything you say makes sense, Giving (Merit), in the altcoin, cryptocurrency, discussion of Bitcoin etc., all can receive (Merit) posts that are worth giving,

But not for social campaign workers like: twitter, facebook, and airdrop.

Yes you don't need to check background before send merit to someone. But if you want to send large amount of merit to any newbie then obviously you should check background. Because if you send 1 merit to newbie then he will be Jr. Member & If you send them 10 merit then they will be Member rank if they have enough activity. So obviously everyone should handle their merit carefully in that case. I am encourage to help newbie but it doesn't mean I have to send large amoumt of merit on single post without check background.

Usually I am doing that when I send merit to newbie account.

Merit should remain what it was before, a reward for a good post.
Good post needs to be checked, at least for plagiarism, which is a showstopper for giving out merits. If someone copies a good post (partially, or spinned, doesn't matter) in order to receive merits, the merit shouldn't be rewarded. If you have a lot of smerits, you should not start to pour them everywhere, smerit is a kind of rare thing and people should handle it that way...
A quick check before sending out smerit won't harm anyone...

For me, if the post is actually helpful why not giving him merit you don't need to check his background as he contributes to the thread.
That is why we have a merit system to encourage users to make a quality and helpful post.

So, what tk808 did wrong? These users who he sent Merits to aren't even red tagged by DT members. How he was able to know that they are multi accounts of someone? Did he had to check every thread in Reputation section to find this information about them before sending Merit?
I think we shouldn't relate trust and Merit system. What if someone have red trust rating, but he is making goid posts? I don't think that red trust is reason not to give Merit him. Offcourse, one thing is really needed to check before giving Merits, especially to lower ranked users - it's possible plagiarism.

If the post is helpful to the community or has some good substance then i don't think it's a crime to give out some merit to the poster.
If i had enough merit and i got a merit worthy post even from a red tagged member(provided the tag was not scam related), i would merit them without thinking twice. There is no reason to be too mean with merit so long as it does it's used for it's intended purpose rightly.

I mean, it's just some code for crying out loud  Cheesy

For the first two given merits. I can tell that it might be to much for the quality of post tho, meriting those posts has no problem also cause it is really giving good points for any discussion.

Person like you should be taught more of the merit system. I am glad to discuss it with you.

It is just pretty simple base on what you were trying to point out you were actually thinking of the other system which is the trust since you are talking about the user's background.

Merit on the other hand is different. It is given to a post regardless of to whoever user that is. Posts that are undeniably good ones or constructive ones. You will be seeing a lot of untrusted users here which are actually getting a lot of merits because of delivering good points and that is how basically the merit system works.

The scope of the merit system revolves only on two (2) things:

Either the post contained substantial information about an inquiry on a topic and it provided support/help to the person; or
the post was relatively amusing and entertaining to read.

Doing background checks before sending merits are beyond the scope on why someone should send merits.
Not to mention, there are users who have been granted with merits despite being banned and having thousands of negative DT trusts.

the post was relatively amusing and entertaining to read.

I don't think the merit system was made to be moderated, biased or based on any criteria abinitio except it is proven to be abused. Although, I don't know if there is any prescribed rule for punishing people found to abuse the merit other than it is individual based.

Therefore, I don't think the said user was wrong to use his/her smerit the way he/she likes so long the post is justified for him to merit it in his/her view.
