The Picasso painting dubbed “Portrait of Dora Maar” worth $28 million and which went missing two decades ago, was finally recovered on the black market in the Netherlands by a senior art detective. The piece was portraying a “young Yugoslavian paparazzo known as Dora Markovic” and it was stolen in 1999 from its Saudi owner. If blockchain technology existed twenty years back it might have well prevented this scenario from happening.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

How the hell? If a thief enter your house and stole the painting, what blockchain does to prevent it?
If he sold it to black market, obviously they won't put explicit details like : picasso painting. So again, how blockchain can prevent this?
Even if you use blockchain to track the original painting, it still doesn't prevent your painting from being stolen.

Exactly, this thread is idiotic and makes no sense.  Man, people on here acting like blockchain will cure cancer and solve every other problem known to man. SMH

@Vlad, I enjoy your articles as much as the next guy but maybe you should be telling the writers to stop making such a frivolous case for blockchain. Stick to the stories and the facts, news is news and we can put up with quite a lot, but think about what they're saying. You might end up doing more harm than good for the argument of blockchain in industry.

I personally don't think all these blockchain use case for luxury items will do much good. Certainly won't prevent theft. If anything, it helps thieves prove they got the real stuff. I mean, imagine if you're seeing things on the black market and you can verify they're genuine. Then the black market would stop being able to sell fakes so easily... encouraging theft of authentic art.

Just saying... you can counter one poorly-constructed argument with another.

So, will we see the explanation about how bitcoin could prevent the steal of the picture or we will just continue to guess how anything like that could be possible to manage?

Seriously, Blockchain + art in one sentence? LOL. I still don't understand how it can prevent theft? Those criminals will just struck anytime and I doubt that blockchain technology can stop them. I thought it was an art about Bitcoin or Blockchain technology. Good thing though is that I don't want to be a victim of those click bait news so not clicking those, sorry.

This post doesn't belongs to Press. It is just conjecture. It is just an speculation using the word blockchain in a news about a painting.
