Today while on the forum I see a message showing KYC is now required to use the forum.
But why should I share my personal information with those third parties?

It's an April fool joke. Any newly started post you see on meta today, don't take it too serious. Every year today been April 1st theymos brings in some fun into the forum by carry-out some pranks. This year's own was the kyc you're seeing many users falling victim to as they're uploading their real picture on the Advance verification Thread. Looking through the information required for the KYC verification you are supposed to have a guess the whole thing is just a joke.

As others have said it is just an April Fools Joke. You'll get used to them every year same day.  Grin

I wanted to add good on you for asking questions. There are a lot of members who don't posses that common sense to ask why, and may have been putting in factual information. Good thing theymos isn't actually collecting or storing any of it.

I wonder how many of the peoples proofed themselves to be a fool on Aprils Fools' Day.
I'm referring to those who submitted their actual photo here and filled the KYC form instead of inquiring in the first place.

I took it seriously, I forgot about the day. After submitting the form I understood that it's a joke but looks like serious. I think most of the users thought it's a mandatory matter to use this forum continuously. However, we enjoyed.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

The idea is funny but I got a mixed feelings for the unwary users who got fooled (don't know if I will laugh or worry, though I laughed from their compliance to "make it as serious as possible" rule).

There were at least 4 users who've submitted real selfies with a valid ID in that "April 1 KYC" thread.
Anyone can literally take that and the information from the IDs and register on any exchange to wash their "dirty laundry".
Users should have at least reported the posts in order for the mods to delete it at the time of the replies (for their own safely).

Can't do that now, it's already archived by google and others.

If you didn't get the joke at this part of the KYC verification then you aren't exactly reading anything at all. I mean if you look at the KYC page for those who are at least observant in the matter you won't see anywhere in that page where you can upload your pictures and other supporting documents to verify your KYC. Even just by putting up fake things and clicking "submit" and you will be instantly verified by the forum. This just proves that most members of the forum are all post first rather than read anything to have at least a basic understanding of it.

I don't think any KYC will be required on this forum. It may be someone is trying to fool you and sell your information. Be sure to report whoever has sent you the message

Lol don't make me laugh.

I think you are joking that is why I'm laughing.
Please look and reread the whole thread and you will find the real reason behind the KYC required.

I saw someone in the discord saying that this is a joke on BTT April Fool's Day, otherwise I will take it seriously. However, if the next time say that the person who logged in on the day rewards a BTC, it may be more exciting.

I wonder how many of the peoples proofed themselves to be a fool on Aprils Fools' Day.
I'm referring to those who submitted their actual photo here and filled the KYC form instead of inquiring in the first place.

Theymos updated the thread with the details... 2541 people submitted the form but it is possible that not all of them were fools. I suspect that several were probably filled out with "joke" information... much like the selfie thread, there are a lot of people who realised it was a joke and responded accordingly.
April fools!

2541 people submitted the KYC form, but the actual data entered into the form was never even sent to bitcointalk.org, much less collected. So if you actually entered any sensitive info there, you should feel a bit silly, but don't worry about it. (Probably some people left funny comments, but regrettably these were not collected.)

The verification flairs were random.

Thanks to Mr. Big, hilariousandco, malevolent, Halab, Mitchell, and Xal0lex for contributing ideas related to this, and to everyone else for having fun with it!

It an April fool celebration from the moderator of this forum on the 1st of April, you will notice that the kyc flash news have been remove from you profile on the forum. But I don't know why people where so scared about the kyc is because ALTs will be detected or what is so special that you are hiding. Bitcointalk forum is an anonymous site and at that kyc will take long before it can be implemented.
