I have been reading some old articles about Bitcoin, I love to know more but what stopped me is this notorious story "at least for me" because of a temporary bug in Blockchain.info's web wallet.

This white hat hacker "AKA @johoe[still active]" reported the "Reused R"[1] bug, kept the money and then returned it to the wallet as shown in the link below[2].

This topic to revive what he has done "Maybe theymos should give him a VIP rank, what do you think?" as well as learn more about such white hat hackers.

The money has been returned to blockchain.info.  Please write to blockchain support to claim refund.

I don't think a VIP status would be appropriate based on that recognition was made for donations which he isn't one. Maybe he need more acknowledgment from DT members as he has earned the trust of the communication (he needs more green on his profile) and also theymos can make a customized badge just for his profile something that'll make him standout the guy is truly a hero and a good samaritan. Maybe more merit to highlight his post would be great too.

Hal gets a free VIP rank. [Do I need to move this topic to meta board?]

MagicalTux got "free" VIP status for hosting the forum for a long time, too. I think that him plus Hal are the only free donator statuses I gave out. You'd have to do something pretty extraordinary to convince me to give out another free one.

I do not want to limit the subject to how to reward @johoe? As much as I would like to highlight such historical events that deserve to be remembered.

Hal got free VIP rank because he contribute to the development and he has done some great writing on this forum. Not sure if johoe could get the same treatment but I do agree he needs some sort of appreciation (he got trust already). I think as long as community members agree on it, or if theymos feels okay to do so, then that status will come sooner or later.

I also having curious on this.
Ain't know what is the point of giving him a VIP status. He already earned the trust of the community and that would be enough.

However, if Theymos would give him the recognition and treatment, he deserves it and what we can only do is to be more than happy with that. VIP rank is not necessary to recognize one's good deeds. Respect is enough for him to be happy and feel appreciated.

But yes, some people who made this kind of deeds with very simple and small amount were actually appreciated and recognized, so he really deserved to be recognized as well.
